Question about Planning a Trip.

Hello fellow Disney World fanatics, I have a very broad question...

I am trying to plan the ultimate trip for myself and my aunt who has not been to the parks since a visit to Magic Kingdom in 1995 and only one other visit in the late 70s. I have been multiple times, but not since 2007. I used to know all that was needed to plan a trip to the parks, but most of my insider knowledge and tips have been lost to time.

My question is this...

We have already decided that October is the best time to stay and we are staying for ten days, but we are also trying to plan it around the opening of the New Fantasyland. Is that worth it and if it is would October 2012 be a sufficient time.

Any other insider tips would be helpful including things I may not be aware of since my 2007 visit.

I think it is wonderful that you are planning a trip for the two of you. So sweet.
October is a wonderful time of year to visit and I think 10 days is a great length.
Parts of the fantasyland expansion will be open in 2012, but it won't be completed until 2013 as of right now. Personally I think it will take longer than anticipated.
While it will be wonderful, it is only part of a land in one of the parks. You know that there is much more to WDW than that. :)
There are a few new attractions and restaurants since your last trip.
Finding Nemo the Musical at Animal Kingdom is great.
Toy Story Midway Mania at the Hollywood Studios is awesome.
The American Idol Experience is controversial, but I really like it.
The Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor at the Magic Kingdom is not liked by many, but I really like that as well.

October is a good time to go. 10 days should be sufficient, but will completely depend on your pace of touring. Trying to time a trip to the opening of the new Fantasyland could be a tough move. Nothing really firm has come out. And even if it does, it will be subject to lots of change.

Yeah. I've been thinking over the past few days and we may shoot for as early as May 2011 because I'm re enrolling in school and October could be a bad time. It may change though, and I've decided the Fantasyland thing is best to not worry about. We could go back when it opens for just a day trip. We are from Tennessee and it is not too bad of a drive.

May is a great time to go. It is nice and warm but you are ahead of the summer crowds. Just make sure you get there before Memorial Day weekend. Epcot is especially beautiful since they have a flower festival every May.
