Question about luggage transfers

If you're staying at a WDW immediately before your DCL cruise, can you still use Disney Luggage transfers even if you're using a town car or rental car? I doubt you can but would like some confirmation.
Thanks!

Yes you can I have done it up to six bags for $35. Contact DCL to organise, they will need your WDW resort and room number,

I do it every time we stay at WDW and go on a cruise after.

Oh wow! News to me! That's kinda weird, tho. Kinda like why luggage can't fly on airplanes without a ticketed passenger onboard. Yikes!

I'm not arguing or being sarcastic....serious question: can someone provide an example of when this would be handy? Why send your bags on the bus but pay to take separate transportation?

To get to the port earlier. The transfers from the resorts are a little slow to get there. That's why I don't know that I'd do them again. I suppose if money were no object one could spend the $35 to not have to handle any checked luggage. Even if you have your own car to drive to the port not having to heave the heavy bags in/out could be worthwhile.

OK, that makes sense. So, then you'd need to tag your bags like you normally would, and they just offload then and take them to screening at the port?

And some transfer options are pretty limited on how much luggage you can fit. Say you rented an economy car for 4 people plus bags. Some town cars won't hold much either and it may be cheaper to send bags than to upgrade rides.

Say you want a stretch hummer and have 27 ladies with tons of bags? That would work if the transfer company doesn't want to pull a trailer. :D

I think it'd prob'ly be akin to using the resort transfers without getting on the bus. I'm not sure. Never done it. I'd imagine you'd tag your bags and someone will come get them in the morning (at AKL in Sept that was at 8:30). The more I think about it, the more "worth it" this option feels. Seriously. I'd love to take nothing but my carry-ons, get in the car, ride/park, then proceed thru security & check-in without touching our checked bags. I think of the griping from the husband I'd not have to hear..."My God, woman! What didn't you pack?! Did you bring bricks for a DIY project?!":rolleyes::hilarious:
