At Expedition Everests queue, there is a gorgeous piece of art just before you get to the Yeti Museum. It depicts a man being speared in the side by a multi-armed goddess. In the background is a dead cow laying on the ground in blood with a lion sitting upright watching the scene.

What is the story behind this portrait?

Trying to upload a pic of it i took from phone but photobucket is being a butt.

Is this the image you are referring to?

If so, this is the Goddess Durga who is a manifestation of Devi, the Mother Goddess who is the unified symbol of all Divine Forces. The Hindu Goddess Durga came to Being when evil forces and demons threatened the existence of the world, humanity and the Gods. To destroy these demons, all gods offered their radiance to Her creation and each formed part of Durga’s body. She was given the trident from Shiva and the chakra from Vishnu. She went into battle and destroyed all of the demons and saved the world. This picture represents that battle.

I might be the only Hindu on this board, so I will chime in!

We have a huge festival for her every year. The demon she kills (Mahishasura) represents .

She has 8 arms and was given a different weapon from each God.
Thanks for the info!

If you are talking about the picture, the demon himself is the water buffalo. he changes form between human and water buffalo.

We don't eat cows for a lot of the same reasons Americans don't eat dogs. We have cows at home, they bring us a lot of joy and it is just a foreign idea to eat them.

But they taste soooo gooood!;)

I am just glad to know that what I learned from books is correct. I have always loved mythology, but what is written and what is practiced don't always line up.
