Question about Disney in January

I was reading the thread on seasonal attractions, and that got me thinking. I'm planning a trip to Disney World in January. Where I live in January is mighty cold. Whatever the temperature in Florida is, It's going to feel nice and warm, like summer to me.

I'm not a regular to Disney World, so I don't know as much about the parks as you guys. but is it true that COP and TK and wonders of life, as well as the Water parks are closed during the month of January??

January will feel great for you. Daytime tempratures will be in the 60's and 70's, but the nighttime might be a bit cold.

The seasonal attractions will likely be closed in January, they usually are when I go. And I know that at least one of the waterparks, I think Typhoon Lagoon, goes down for rehab in January. The other waterpark is usually open. Since it has heated pools, you will love it. Too cold for us natives though.

Have fun.

I used to go to WDW all the time in January. I come from an area that is heavy in lake effect snow and very cold temperatures, and WDW was the ideal escape. It's a great time to visit. Crowds are light, so you'll get to do plenty. The only downside is that some attractions won't be open and the hours will be a little shorter. All in all, though, you'll have a great time. Enjoy the mid-winter escape.

Which Rides where closed on your visit..?

January and February seem to be the time when many attractions go on rehab... I guess it's because of the lower attendance. There are also less fireworks shows, parks tend to close earlier... Or so I guess... But then you have really few people in the parks, and almost no lines at all! There are always advantages of going to wdw, no matter the season!!! Have fun!

The water parks are almost always down for the yearly rehabs during January. Also, as previously mentioned, the seasonals will probably be closed. Usually there's also one major attraction down for rehab, but I'm pretty sure that this year that will be taken care of by Small World. Still, the benefits of nearly having the parks to youself vastly outweigh the disadvantages.

And don't forget, the Land closes January 2 for its big retheming :lookaroun , so that will unfortunatley be closed too. CoP is expected to go down (possibly for a major rehab) after Stitch opens, so it will probably be closed as well. (I'm guessing they'll keep it through the holidays?)

What dates are you going? I'll be there the 7th-14th, and I'm used to going during President's Week, so the slow season will be welcome for me, even if it means a few rides down. :p

We went the week spaning the end of Jan and the begining of Feb this year. The weather was nice except for two days. Mostly still shorts and tee shirt weather. At least one water park should be open but the seasonal attractions mentioned will most likely be closed. The hours are shorter but the lines are too. Tons of walk on or 5 to 10 minute lines.

I would rather go off season than on anyday.

Enjoy!

I'll be down there the 5th-15th. Its our first time going in January, so I hope it's as good as everyone says!!

I'm kind of bummed that CoP will be closed though. I'm really looking forward to the trip though, because it will be my girlfriend's first visit to the World! :sohappy:

2 years ago we went Jan 5-12 and had a blast. We were able to do all that we wanted in each park by early afternoon and did a bunch of things that we did not normally do like mini golf, exploring other resorts actually sitting to watch some of the shows(Band the B, ect). Also we were able to stay on many attraction for a second or third time around without getting off. AS an example: we did Kali got off the ride the line was short did it again. At the end of the second trip the CM said want to ride again(no line = no waiting) rode it 3 more times before we were so soaked that we decided to get off.:D Also rode Big Thunder the same way, Space mountain they made us get off and go around to get back on but we waited less than 2 minutes to ride again.

We are going again this Jan 8-15 and kind of expecting a similar situation. No matter what we will have a great time:)

January is a great time to go because you don't wait in lines at all. Also if you want to have some fun with the CM's, The CP's start to arrive around the first week, It's always fun to play with the new CP's heads when they are new on the job. :)

We were there Jan 1 to the 7th last year. We went to BB (I think TL is closed in Jan, BB in Feb, then in March alterneting days.) At least one water park is open year round.

Any off season times some rides are closed for rehab. Sometimes they might be closed for part of your trip, but not the whole week. Sometimes they are closed for lenghty amounts of time (but then it is normally ancounced in advance like Small World being closed for almost a year.)

Parks do tend to close earlier, AK at 5:00, MGM at 6:00 and MK anywere from 6:00 to 10:00 depending on the day (later on weekends). Epcot is always 9:00.

Jan is a great time to go, weather can be hit and miss, so pack for all weather. We had a great time. It was in the 80's the 1st half of the week and then 60's the last day. (only rained once, all in all MUCH better weather then when we went in Aug.)

We like winter at WDW, we love the escape from Michigan.

I used to go every January when I lived in Florida, as that was one of the resident pass months. I have pictures of my children standing in front of poinsettia trees in what was then Mickey's Birthday Land in tee shirts and jeans. We had light jackets in the evenings. If memory serves me correctly, many of the decorations remain until the end of the second week of January.

Its a great time to go. You should have a great trip !

january is the 2nd best time to go. the best time is right now before thanksgiving and christmas because its still nice outside, itss offpeak season, and the parks are still open pretty late.

I like the 2 weeks after thanksgiving. It's great, because you get all the christmas events and decoration, and it's still offpeak season! It's colder, but... :xmas: Well, I guess January would be too cold for me... And it seems to me kinda... too slow, too cold, not many things to do... I dunno...

You crack me up when you say it's "too cold" in FL in January or any other winter month. I think it's perfect down there during the day, unlike our negative temperatures up here. BRRRR

I can't wait to go in January, it's one month I've never been to WDW. There's always next year though! :D

 I see your point! Well, going to FL in January for me is like traveling towards very cold winter, leaving Brazilian summer behind, with no special reason for that... Of course, if I have the chance to go, I won't think twice, it's wdw anyway. But December is much better because of the Christmas stuff, it's like a great compensation for leaving the tropics behind and venture into coldness... BRRRR Well, I am serious when I say I wouldn't survive those negative temperatures of yours. When I went to London, I cried like a kid because of the cold. It was so cold that my muscles hurt!
