I have never let myself go there, to really Price out my Ultimate Disney Vacation.

I know I would want to do the Keys To The World Tour, and the Wishes Dessert Party or The Pirates & Pals Fireworks Voyage. Also to order a cake from WDW to celebrate the occasion. And for my Darling Daughter to be able to have our room decorated before she comes in through Disney Floral.

Add in unlimited Table service meals and it would be a win win.

And no I am not going to price that out because I don't want to have a stroke! ;)

As far as I possibly can!! I pick up extra shifts, so does my DH. We push it and push it to make every dream come true. :)

I just priced my ultimate WDW for just DH and I...Christmas season (but not Christmas week); Polynesian Resort w/theme park view; PH w/Waterparks and more, Platinum Dining Package (includes unlimited tours, fireworks cruise, La Nouba, etc...)...more than $8000.

My ultimate would include my children & spouses; grandchildren...well over $25000.

OK- now as for the actual question...I have a hard time separating between the dream trip and just a really nice farewell trip. The really nice farewell trip wouldn't be that far off from current trip budgets...so maybe more like $8-10K if I were to add a few extra perks. The dream trip is a different story...the dream trip involves the presidential suite at the Contemporary, which is going to run me $2500-3000 a night...when you add in dining, park tickets, the limo service I'd want, the cakes, the tours, and other goodies...we're easily talking about $30,000 (maybe more if I invite more peeps).

Now, truth be told...unless I hit a point where we're so comfortable that $30k means nothing...I can assure you that I'd be more likely to put that $ into non-Disney trip. I have a dream Pacific trip that involves hopping from Cali to places like Hawaii, Australia, Fiji, Bora Bora, etc. And while I'm hoping we get this trip in before we're at dream trips- Alaska is also high on my list...and no, not an Alaskan cruise. I have a whole land and sea agenda, but it's very in depth. There are a handful of other musts as well. So, unless $ is no object- I'd probably not allow it to go over $10k.

I'll third that, venice looks romantic but smells like a rice paddy if you know what I mean.

I remember how awful the flooding was when we were there. It wasn't until our 2nd full day, when we took a gondola ride, did we get to see exactly what was in the water. Ick! The shoes that had been through the flood water lived in plastic bags for the remainder of the trip.

I have friends who 2 years ago decided, before getting married,to do a world tour ( it cost them £20000 ) about $35000..They flew from Scotland to New York, travelled thro the United States, from California to Hawaii then to Australia then Europe then back to Scotland. It took them 3 months to complete. ( There both self employed lawyers ) ...We were invited to a lavish party after their wedding and I asked him what was his favourite memory of his world tour...His answer floored me..:jawdrop:..No..Not Venice...It was New Orleans..He said the music on the streets..The people...The food...There hoping to go back soon ( they have twin girls 8 months old ) And stay there for at least one month..

He obviously has never lived there, or frankly...didn't stay very long to see that much of the city.

Doing it on that sort of budget, yep, I'm sure he adored it. It's like people who rave about what a wonderful place Charleston, SC is...or NYC...

Mind you, I'm not a detractor of NOLA, and I'm not trying to get into a discussion about it. The city has changed quite a bit since Katrina...but...it is still NOLA.

There are 3 types of people in NOLA.

1) The people who make the city wonderful
2) The people who are tearing the city apart
3) The people who come and visit for a weekend or two and think that happy guy they meet to suck up their tourist dollar isn't stuck between the two...

I know that's generic, but to get much deeper into it would require a lot more than this forum post will be.

It's culturally probably the most complex city in the US I've ever been in. Close competators would be Charleston, Savannah and NYC.

The rest are rather...plain, with more "regional" brushstrokes rather than wholly unique cultures.

Nice to know someone from Europe considers one of the crappiest cities to live in the US one of their best experiences though (not meant as a slight, it's just a fact)...

Not sure what anything I said has to do with Obama. While he's had his share of photo ops (Isaac and BP spring to mind), he's really not done much for the region at all...outside of hamper one of their largest industries (as his party does)...O&G...

But, that whole mess was fun, as we got to blame the brits for that! :P

It's a beautiful city, if you know where to look. It's full of wonderful people, if you know who to avoid. And it's among one of the worst places to be, if you are ignorant of the first two.

And if you are a tourist...well...spend that money brother!

Hmmm...What your quoting about " Beautiful city...people to avoid..etc..Isn't that life in general..The Obama thing was me be sarcastic ( in my typical sense of humour ) An old Scottish saying I like is.." Where ever you go in life, never take an idiot with you..You'll always meet one when you get there."

I took it as sarcastic, and got your joke. Yet, the state of the nation, and therefore his use as a joke, really isn't quite as "jovial" as you think it may be.

Obama has been a massive disappointment nationally. He walked into the office, and we thought...FDR, a leader who would take charge! And he's proved to be nothing more than another mewling politician.

I am not sure either of his opponents would have been much better...but that's aside the point.

The 2016 presidential cycle for us should be very interesting...if you are into that sort of thing.

As far as your cute saying...It is...and it's a great saying. Except that idiot is out to kill you for $50 bucks to get his next crack fix, and city services are so corrupt that it takes the cops 3 to 4 hours (give or take) to respond due to poor funding (but NOT due to lack of funds...chew on that).

Lets look at some facts about NOLA, eh? That "life in general" you mention...didn't involve being one of the highest murder rates in the country (and holding that record for more than one year in the last few decades, trading off with Detroit, NYC (which was cleaned up by a strongarm mayor) and DC).

If you actually live there for a period of time, rather than visiting on a thousand of dollar tourist budget, your friend would probably paint a very different picture of the city.

NOLA is not a "wonderful city"...unless you have a wish to be a victim of a crime (mortal and property) or at least be so well aware of it that you know how to avoid it, or (as with any city) have enough money to avoid it.

Since your friend obviously traveled in the latter category, I'd say he stayed in the self contained "tourist" area, which even the criminals (which have family/friends who work in the area, hence #3 of my previous comment stay away from)...but travel outside of it?

As I said, it's changed since Katrina, but not all that much.

Also, if I commented on your political leaders, or the state of your country (which I couldn't with any degree of accuracy, even though I do keep up with international politics)...

It's all a happy drink to you, it's a real thing for us. The decisions this government makes is something that impacts my daily life.

Just like I laugh at your parliament fighting, I'd imagine you laugh at our politics (especially since everyone in the world seems to feel they are experts on our politics...mostly our fault for being so politically visible)...
