Pulling kids from school?

Am I bad parent for pulling my kids from school for 6-7 days? They're in K and 1st. I'm getting some anxiety over this for some reason!

No! I'm getting ready to do it for the 3rd time this December. I tell my kid that they have to have school work done before they go. Disney seems to be a pretty good motivator.

Guess I live in a great state. Family vacations are excused with prior notice given to school administrators, even in high school.

Our school does not care if you take your kids out. The kids tell their teachers ahead of time and we just call the day before saying they they will be out such and such dates. They don't even ask for what. And our school ranked second in the state and a large portion of those kids go to college after graduation. They have also won national academic awards. The teachers actually give a crap and even understand that there is more to life then just school. You can have kids miss out on school and still have high academics. And "unexcused" absences are for those who skip school, not those whose parents take them out of school. Any educator that punishes the child for their parent's decisions should be fired IMO.

no you are not. I pulled my daughter from school when we went. Up till high school as her high school would not excuse the absence and if they had too many unexcused absences they would either hold her back or make her take summer classes. None of us wanted to go in the summer though (mostly due to the heat). So I told her I would take her to disneyland for her high school graduation present. Already got it booked for sept of next year :)

I'll play devil's advocate and suggest that kids, even at that young age, are observant enough to internalize the implicit message you are sending about the relative importance of education.
Exactly, family is more important than education. Glad we agree. ;)

I disagree with actually exercising that particular right. Kids learn responsibility in many ways, and sticking to a school schedule is one of the best ways to teach it.
In kindergarten? My four year old can't even keep what day of the week it is straight. With holidays, long weekends, regular weekends, etc., I doubt she'd even know she was "skipping" school if we didn't tell her.

Epcot is not educational enough anymore so yes you are a bad parent. Lol, just kidding, they are your kids and you can do what you want. Although if you do it too much the kids may never graduate and will be stuck at home with you for a long time.

Yes, family is more important than education. Family responsibilities, that is. Family play time can wait. Kids at all ages watch and learn from their parents.

You’re not teaching them to disrespect education by teaching them to value family time. Discussing the importance of preparing for missed school work and including them in the preparations, are useful lessons as well.
Insert family ‘play time’ if you prefer.
I feel quite right with teaching a variety of lessons instead of....the school calendar says no so we’re not going.
