So Mrs. Slappy & I had been debating taking the kids to WDW during "Jersey week" when the NJ Teachers' Convention is on and schools are out for some if not all of the week. Being DVC members, there was no room at any of the inns for the days we'd have to be able to go. I suggested that we could try mid-December knowing she'd never go for it. The work ethic is strong in that one. She's not taking vacation days she doesn't need to take for something as craaaazy as going on a vacation...
Yesterday she decided we should give it a shot.
Quickly booked a room. Started doing meal reservations. Pricing airfare...It was only going to be a 3 full day plus a chunk of a 4th day, but we knew the kids would love it. It was going to be in lieu of some Xmas presents, but we figured hey, why not?
Then I got home and Mrs. Slappy ran the numbers and started freaking out. We're still digging ourselves out of debt for the years she took off work to raise the kids. To spend what we'd have to spend for such a brief vacation - even without having to shell out for a room, it was going over 3 grand - it just wasn't worth watching her break out in nervous breakdown hives.
It was a bit of a Gift-of-the-Magi thing - she thought she was doing me and the kids a favor by setting up this vacation. I didn't think we were going to do it, and thought that if she, for once, is instigating Disney plans, it must be something SHE wants to do, so I was more than happy to make it happen.
Soooooo....so much for that.
