Just feeling the need to brag a little bit. For the first time, I'm doing the whole school thing as a parent. My daughter is just wrapping up Kindergarten. Today, she came home with a note informing me that she will be getting an art award at the upcoming graduation ceremony. :sohappy: Considering that she has wanted to be an artist since she was 3, I think it's quite appropriate. I'll tell ya, for a 5 year old, she is really good. She draws people in her own very unique way...the same way every time & they are really cute. OK...enough of my parental beaming. I can't help it...I think this whole mom thing is SOOO cool. :D Attached is a photo of my little artist-in-training.

She is sooooooo cute!!! Congratulations proud mom!!
Maybe you should also consider sending her to private art classes? My cousin is taking art (painting) and she is only 9 years old and paints very nice!

btw, I laugh every time I see your last quote "I´m not a complete idiot, some parts are missing" hahaha :animwink:

Dawn, she is just beautiful! Savor the "Mom thing." It won't last as long as you may think....I'm just happy I've had the opportunity to be there for all of the awards, recitals, plays, games, etc. My daughter has confessed that even though she often told me not to bother coming for awards ceremonies, etc. (when she got into her teens) she was still always looking for me in the audience, and was glad when she spotted me!

My younger child makes no secret about it...he wants me there, and I'd better have a good excuse if I can't make it! (Having 2 children often means you're expected to be 2 places at once. Even I, Super Mom, haven't been able to mange that! ;))

She IS a cutie! I am loving that pose!

I agree with Maria regarding private lessons, if you can afford them (sounds expensive to me). Of course, I am sure you are doing tons to encourage her at home! My Nana bought me an easel when I was 2 years old and although the rest of the family thought she was crazy, that was my favorite possession all through childhood!

Brag away, proud mommy! It's your right!!!!!

Don't let the picture fool you, she does have a little evil streak in her. The women in my family are all a little nuts, so I don't hold it against her.

I did the ballet thing, but she has the grace of a blind, legless goat. Art is definitely her thing. She also writes music. Now THAT is fun to observe. :D I already plan to find some type of class to send her to for the art because she really is good at it. I see some of the things she draws or little books she makes & I'm amazed that they came from someone so young! Whatever she gets excited about, I will encourage it & do what I can to help her advance in it. I just hope she makes up her mind easier than I did. I had a new hobby every week. My poor parents!

Maria...thanks for the quote compliment. Love your ...um... NON-winking avatar!

Congrats!!!

I love to see the little artists keeping things going! :D

You're in Florida right? It's never too early to start thinking about college...consider Ringling School of Art and Design...it's not to far from ya. ;)

Dawn she is a doll! hehe.

And I'm glad you are encouraging her. My mom always tried to make sure I was "practical" and is still telling me I need a "backup plan" and I sometimes resent that. She's luckey to have such a great mom.

If money is an issue,it might be worthwhile to contact local art associations, museums, etc. I knowmy brother was able to get free lessons at RISD when he was a child. I don't know about art, but I was on the board of a ballet company, and we gave scholarships to talented dancers who couldn't afford lessons, costumes, etc.

Dawn, she is really an adorable little girl. I think being encouraging is wonderful. I had a friend in school who was a wonderful artist, her artwork was unbelievable but she had a mother who criticized her constantly....unfortunately, she gave it up and didn't pursue her dreams, I think parents are so important in encouraging and yes, bragging on their children and helping them realize their dreams. I can tell you're a wonderful caring mommy. Enjoy these years with her...they slip away too quickly :(
