They`ll be posted here or in the trip planning section, but remember the company is trying to scale them back over the coming year. They`ve given far too much away as it is.

When I went in September 2008, we had the free meal plan and I saw a lot more people there than when they weren't offering it. The truth is that they will probably lose business if they cut that promotion out altogether.

The economy will not be getting any better next year. Indications are it will be even worse with even more people out of work. I would expect the deals to keep coming or expect to have much lighter crowds.

I predict the opposite. I think Iger's statements regarding decreased promotions in 2010 stem from his keen observance of the US economy.

Look at the DOW - it's closing at 10,500 routinely. Unemployment is falling (heck, companies are actually hiring in Indiana right now). Holiday spending was up at least 3% this year over last, and that number is still climbing with day-after-Xmas results still pending.

Yes, there are still lots of people without jobs, but it's not an epidemic. The economy is rebounding, and has fared well so far. I don't think Disney will be handing out vacations as much this year, and will probably maintain or build on 2009's attendance.

Just my guess.

Hah-ha. That's funny.:ROFLOL::ROFLOL::ROFLOL:

I really hope you were being :rolleyes::rolleyes: in the post and no one's gotten it yet!

Iger's statements were lies and he knew it when he said it. He did what any savvy CEO would do when dealing with analysts and knowing the truth will cause them to downgrade their views on the company, which in turn will cause the stock to tank.

I've never seen a Christmas holiday where Disney was offering 40% off deluxe resorts. The typical discount for this week is NONE because they have never needed them.

Then we have a 10% merchandise discount for APers that was almost immediately doubled to 20%. That also doesn't include sale merchandise at higher levels.

Oh, and then we had free gift cards of $250-$750 on packages booked into June.

They also have absolutely NOTHING new coming to any of their Florida parks in 2010. No new major attractions. No new minor attractions. No new parades. No new pyro/night shows. Hell, they don't even have any new DVC coming online.

They got nada, nothing, zero, zilch except the same recycled stale magic.

And you think they're not gonna be discounting like say a Pontiac, Saturn or Saab dealer? Like I said ...:ROFLOL:

The DOW is a joke. It in no way reflects the reality of our economy for the vast majority of Americans.

Unemployment is a bigger joke. So many folks aren't even counted, I'm quite confident in MANY areas of the country the number is three times what's being shoveled to the public. And let's not talk about the underemployed ... folks who went from well-paying white collar jobs to part time jobs in retail or service. A full-time job for $60,000 a year with insurance and benefits isn't the same as working 30 hours at Office Depot or 20 hours at Starbucks.

And holiday spending? Who cares? Seriously. Overspending was one factor (a small one except to the right wingers) as to how we got in the mess we did.

Yes, there are still lots of people without jobs, but it's not an epidemic. The economy is rebounding, and has fared well so far. I don't think Disney will be handing out vacations as much this year, and will probably maintain or build on 2009's attendance.

You're just flat out wrong on employment. It IS an epidemic. The trillions spent on say .... the war machine ... handouts to Wall Street and Detroit ... they'd have been much better spent on creating REAL jobs ... (those are ones people can actually live on ... you know the ones we've been offshoring for the past two decades to feed the Wall Street beast that ultimately requires us to become a third world nation to keep getting ROI higher and higher!)

Disney is already handing out vacations for the first half of 2010, which will take the Mouse all the way into FQ3 of '10. There's absolutely no rational reason to think that will stop. Unless you think enough folks will go visit the WWoHP and decide to take magical WDW vacations because if it!

I think you need to clear out the pixie dust! :xmas:

The President agrees with you. He says the worst is over and there is serious talk of cancelling the second round of stimulus legislation because it's rumored to not be needed according to the politicians in Washington DC. And he did go to Harvard afterall. He has everything under control. Nothing to fear. Really. Iger seems to agree.

The Prez is wrong. And an Ivy League degree isn't all it's cracked up to be. Bush has two.

But Iger is definitely smarter than at least one of the above ... maybe two (but God, I hope not!):xmas::cry:

Hello all,

Has anyone heard if Disney plans on offering the free meal plan if you book a trip within certain dates?

It was available for bouncebacks.

I am booked for free dining next August 15-20

Most likely something better will crop up than rack rate + food, but time will tell.

believe me, discounts have not stopped - i was there in october and was offered free dining and the same deal i had when i was there for this coming year(2010) & about 3 weeks ago got a pin for 40% off rack rates through june 2010 - need more than that to go back this coming year & i'm someone who goes 2 or 3 times a year - gotta agree with 74 - discounts aren't stopping anytime soon. Love the place but nothing has changed this past year or will change this coming year.

Heading for the great escape.
They are being offered to us Johnny Foreigner types and I have availed myself of their benefits, (free dining, which was a better value for us than the alternative of 40% off SSR).

I concur with another poster's sentiment about the Dow being a joke barometer. It really predicted the eceonmy's collapse, didn't it? Just like the .com bubble that the economists didn't account for, the real estate & bank mess was missed. Traders, futures, and the market aren't very good indicators like they use to be. Oil prices keep going up yet consumption isn't, yet the oil futures market makes it look like the economy will be turning around "soon". Yeah, just as soon as banks start lending money to small businesses again and mortgages are back to normal.

I had to take a salary cut in hopes my company could go on. I was supposed to be laid off 12/30 but got a 90 day extension. I still know plenty of people out of work and in temp plans with their mortgage company so they don't lose their house.

I didn't book my trip this year since I don't see any good discouts yet for rooms or the dining packages. The room isn't the big deal, it's the dining plan that can be a huge savings. But no free plan might mean I stay oof property if I am in a position to go at all.

I read thatt Iger quote when it came out and I couldn't believe a CEO would utter something like that. This mortgage burden on the economy is going to be real slow to go away here in the US. If your mortgage is under water, how is John Q Public going to afford that mortgage and a $3000+ trip to WDW with no incentives or discounts?

A/P discounts

My ????? is....They just came out with room discounts for the General Public thru June-2010.....I have not seen any room discounts for Annual Passhlders for that time frame....What's up with that????????......

Looks like a promotion just started today in conjunction with the regular room-only discount for Passholders and FL Residents.

Yep, the passholder section on disneyworld.com has the new offer out. One thing I noticed is the discount is slightly less if you stay 3 or less nights. I just modified my bounceback ressie at the GF from 40% off to 45% off and dumped the 1 day MYW tickets that we didn't need.
