Project plans spotted at Haunted Mansion

People, you are looking way too far into this. Red Shirt Guy is a Guest Service Manager. He has the Nextel Ear Piece, Pin Lanyard, and I'm sure he would have a trash collector stick as well. The gentlemen in the blue shirt could be a maintenance manager or another GSM. All they are doing is looking to improve guest traffic and stroller parking. They did the same thing this past Christmas over at Stitch when I was working in T-Land. However, at Stitch they were looking to extend the "Much Un-Needed" Fast Pass Queue.

Also, don't you think if there we planning to do work inside the ride they would be inside the ride and not outside at the line entrance? Maybe it's just me, but I do not think Disney would be discussing ride changes right out in the open around guests.

The overlay of HMH includes the exterior and the entrance.

Not even close.

Thought so, guess not...:dazzle:

Well, look at it this way, it's June. HMH opens after Halloween...I think. If it took that long to set up, it wouldn't be worth the trouble because HM would pretty much be closed for the majority of the year. The current transfer time is a little much IMO.

Thanks for the correction! I have only been to DL once and the HM had just re-opened after HMH was removed, but we got to it too late and they shut the gates right as we got there.

The first attraction to appear at WDW before DL was the Country Bears. For those that talk history, preservation, people may only visit 1-2 times ever, there it is, right in Frontierland. Anytime HMH gets mentioned on these boards, these arguments are trotted out with the predictability of finding salt in the ocean. Yet, although the Country Bears have a different show at Xmas, I have never, never, ever, ever, never, ever, not even once, ever, ever, not even a peep, ever ever, EVER, EVER seen anyone complain about that.

Isn't it odd?

Cheers.

I went to the bear show once, and was actually looking for a door out after the show started! I thought it was that bad, so does anyone go enough to complain about this one?

Now that I think about it, I think that it is about the time right now when they get ready to close down the Mansion in DL to add the HMH overlay. Could we being seeing our own version of the Haunted Mansion Holiday? I will let you be the judge of that...:animwink:

It takes about 25 days to turn the regular Haunted Mansion into Haunted Mansion Holiday, and even less time to remove it all.

For the last five years Haunted Mansion closes the day after Labor Day, and reopens a day or two before October 1st. It operates for both the Halloween and Christmas seasons, since it celebrates both holidays. They often have a special dinner event inside the Haunted Mansion Holiday the night before it opens to regular guests, and that dinner event is usually around September 29th. It's less than a month process to create Haunted Mansion Holiday.

Small World Holiday is even quicker now. They begin putting the exterior lights up in early October, but since the facade is mostly white they are very hard to see unless you know to look for them. Then Small World closes in mid-October, and about 18 to 21 days later it opens as Small World Holiday in early November.

Both processes to remove the Holiday overlays are even shorter. This last year they got the Small World stuff out and the ride back to normal in 15 days. Haunted Mansion was closed for about 7 weeks this past winter after Christmas so they could do additional rehab work to the Omnimover system, the two elevator rooms, and lots of show effect upgrades and general TLC.

Most likely....

My bet is that they're looking at guest flow....the HMs entrance makes guests bottle neck into the attractions main gates and I've seen it get rather crazy as guests run towards the Mansion. I also heard back in 2003 the Imagineers where wanting to get the outside of the Mansion refurbished quickly becuase they had in the works a new gift shop/photo pick up area for the outside of the Mansion. It would actually be a part of the Mansion itself just placed as you exit, like so many gifts shops are these daze. That was way back in 2003 that I heard these rumors. I wouldn't be surprised if we see the Mansion's main gates moved and a widening of the attractions entrance, not to mention the gates pulled closer to Liberty Square. When I heard these rumors way back when I also heard that after the new giftshop was done they would then consider the Haunted Mansion Holiday. With all the attention being paid to DLs HM I'm sure that in the next 5 years we'll see some advancements (key word being SOME).

My guesses are in order: Ride referb, added FX (based on DLs new FX), on ride picture from the crypt/"ghost will follow you home" scene), outside giftshop and then way later...the haunted mansion holiday.

After seeing the picture from this thread I asked a friend, who happens to be a Mansion enthusiast with lots of WDI connections and he told me what he has heard. What he told me sounds pretty exciting.

I do believe a new gift shop would benefit WDW. Disneylands "Le Bat en Rouge" giftshop (that at the moment houses Haunted Mansion merchandise and Nightmare merchandise) is one of the most crowded shops in the kingdom.

Think about it, when you're in WDW haven't you noticed a lot of the misplaced Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise. I know when I see it I ask myself why is this here???? I can see this rumored extension of the mansion being a plus...haunted mansion, nightmare before christmas, and Disney villains merchandise. I can already hear the cash registers opening.

Me , personally? Nah, never thought much of it myself. Then again, I don't go psycho-ballistic over things like redecorating food courts and desecrating [sic] murals, either. Some do love the Bears, though, I guess. The bears were replaced with the Pooh ride in DL, and there's a thread right now on micechat about which is/was better. It was at 2 pages when I saw it earlier, and over 90% want the Bears back. I only brought it up because the arguments against HMH would apply to the Xmas Bears show, but no one makes it. Stuff like that amuses me.

Cheers.

I am up for that. All we need are a few conceptual Hogwarts sketches, some official looking plans then we can hang out by HM and I bet it will make the rumor mill within 4 hours.

What we need to do is get a site plan of Fantasyland and bubble the area where 20,000 LUTS was in red ink and write above it "Potter Ride/Hogwarts 2009". Leave this conveniently placed on top of a trash can and sit back and enjoy the show!!!:D

After that, hit Animal Kingdom with Camp Minnie/Mickey circled in thick red marker and "Remove 2007/ Bea.King. 2009" above it! There's a good 2 weeks of threads right there!

HMH goes down for the overlay in early September. It opens late September. This year it's closed September 5th-September 29th. It's open all throughout October for the Halloween season through early January for the Christmas season.

So, that's roughly a third (33.3333%) of an entire year...now does everyone see what I was saying.

Vast majority of Disneyland guests love it. Vast majority of Tokyo Disneyland guests love it. I'd be fine if they just wanted to make it a Halloween layover and then change it back in early november. But I'm very very happy we have it. The recent changes our mansion got certainly isn't enough to make me not want to have the layover. It's a very fun change of pace to me. =D

Most DL guests are local, therefore visit more often and prefer changes.

Most WDW guests are from from out of state and prefer that most attractions (especially the flagship ones) were open for their stay.

Yeah, we visit from Wisconsin every two years, and we always go around the time that it would be changed. And the regular mansion is one of my favorite rides. I don't even like NBC that much.

Too bad that did not stop them from closing Pirates all this time.

Ha I love enchancements ....but was it closed for all this time just so people could see depp?

Sure it could give them something to come back for but if it was their only time being able to go, and they were looking forward to pirates then they were just out of luck.

I would be happy if the WDW Haunted Mansion had nice clean audio. It has really gotten bad. Not to mention the dents in the picture frames.

I know that, of course...sadly I know that it is permanent.

Sorry thought this was reffering to changing and closing flagship attractions in general.

Either way it has been closed a long time.

Back to my point that was on topic. PLEASE give WDW's mansion some TLC and not just a giftshop that exits through the old skyway station. Besides, what a long walk for re-rides.

Yeah, but Tokyo's much more in tune with that aspect of wdw than disneyland is.
