"Princess" Tiana is now OFFICIALLY a Disney Princess

Well deserved, Tiana. A princess with a "hard work" mentality is exactly what the children of today need. I'll not go much into my views of society, but it's disgusting to me how most young people these days feel they are "owed" things.

Just watched PatF fr the second time since yesterday and I just did the commentary.

I love how the directors acknowledged this was the first princess with a career goal and wasn't just "waiting for her prince" to sweep her off her feet.

Also, they're story about having enough saved animator desks and them trying to resurrect hand drawn animation made me so happy they probably accomplished that along with Lasseter's help. (:

YES! It felt so good to sit and watch a movie that reinforced the values we are trying to teach our kids.

Wow this was a great movie!! I cant remember when the last time I watched a non pixar film and felt that good after. Probably the Lion King. Either way, great movie and I hope its just the start of something better with disney animation.

They were releasing the movie in December, traditionally not the height of the movie season

****

Ummmm...just the opposite. December is absolutely the "height of the movie season," particularly for animated movies.

Which is of course where the term "Winter Blockbuster" comes from in describing a movie. Or was that summer, I forget.....

And of course is also the reason Disney is releasing Toy Story 3 on December 18. What's that? Oh...it's June 18...........

Is anybody gonna be surprised when the next film features a young Hispanic "princess"? Lol, the Disney Princesses concept is going to wind up resembling a model United Nations project at Barnard College.

the next "princess" is Rapunzel from 'Tangled'

Well I guess that tells that they arrant replacing mythical characters with Radio Disney characters any time soon and hopefully never knock on wood (one of my worse fears :lookaroun).

December is a big month for movies, but traditionally family movies come out over Thanksgiving. December has been the domain of the Oscar contender type films, serious dramas and bio-flicks.

The later release probably hurt TPaF, a bit, but it definitely has to be considered a success. The BO more than doubled the production costs. DVD should double that. It recieved excellent reviews and great word of mouth. Add in the merchandising, a rejuvenation of the princess line, and an entry into the African American market and the movie accomplished quite a bit. Would Disney have liked more, of course, but if it had made 10 billion they would have wanted more.

Bingo.

And yes, even though Mulan is not a princess, Disney included those that they thought fit the "Princess Mythology". In other words, they want to include as many as they can to sell the most merchandise to the broadest potential customer base.

It's been a long time since I've seen Mulan, but wasn't she from a royal family to begin with? I honestly don't remember the whole story line, but I thought that her arc was from privilege to warrior?

No, her family was pretty normal and she was never close to royalty besides maybe when she got the reward from the emperor.

Still, she's a leading lady with a good message.

No, she never had any relation to royalty in the movie. The line just needs a token Asian girl and now has a African American one too.

Also, why was Meg never considered a princess?

Because Hercules is a demi-god...not a prince. And in the movie we don't know if Herc and Meg stay together. I mean, Meg got dumped once (by a guy she sold her soul for), who's to say she doesn't do that to Herc.

I liked Meet the Robinson's... :lookaroun Well I actually did and I just got my copy of The Princess and the Frog yesterday!!!! Last one before they sold out!!! Blu-Ray, Regular, and I guess special features or something! I can't wait to watch it!!

We LOVE "Meet the Robinsons" too. "Keep Moving Forward!"

Lets not forget Esmerelda from Hunchback of Notre Dame - not a princes...she was a gypsy! :D

I took TPaTF to school yesterday and my students and I checked out the artwork, music, accents, and storyline. I already loved the movie, but was worried about my senior boys hating a "girlie" movie even though I previously told them it had universal themes. My students LOVED it! Later, we looked at WDW Tiana pictures online to pick out the one they thought was closest in looks to the movie Tiana! They loved that Ray's accent and speech pattern were perfect Cajun. Their favorite line was "Go to bed, y'all from Shreveport?" (We are about 45 minutes away from Shreveport and hold our prom at LSU-Shreveport).

9 more days until we are ºoºrlando bound with 50 teens on two school buses for 930 miles of smiles:sohappy:

Well, I'd assume they would of stayed together just as much as I assume all the rest of the couples stay together

Also, Hercules is the son of Zues. Zues is the God of Gods- so, the king. How isn't Hercules a prince of some sort?

That's so awesome! I know some kids in high school couldnt care less about Disney because they're older, so I'm amazed to see you got them to watch the movie.

The movie is really more of a boys movie anyway. There are four main women and several more men.

Anyways, lol, hope you have a great time in the world!
