Just got my Disney Visa newsletter, and it shows Priness & the Frog coming out on DVD in March. Thought that was kind of quick - used to take 6 months before movies were released on tape.

Well keep in mind that it takes a lot less time to burn off a bunch of DVDs / Blurays than it does to dub a tape.

I'm sure that they had some super fast way to copy the tapes, but it's still faster for a machine to burn off copies of discs.

It is pretty quick, almost too quick, IMO. I know this is Iger's new strategy, to get movies to DVD/Blu-ray as quickly as possible, but I'm not sure it's a good one. Consider, if people know a movie will be out in just two or three months, why rush to the movie theater to see it? Just wait for the video, which won't be too long now, then you can watch it in the comfort of your home theater. The old strategy would mean you had to wait 6 months or so, which was a little longer than most people, presumably, would want to wait.

This is exactly why a lot of the major film chains in the UK, and AMC here in the US, are threatening to refuse to carry "Alice in Wonderland." There is an understanding between the film studios and the theatres that studios will wait at least 17 weeks to release the DVD version of a film- with this one Disney is barely giving them 13.

I believe part of the quick release is to capitalize on the Oscar nomination.

I think Disney was experimenting with the release dates for this film and it has backfired. They pushed it from Thanksgiving to Christmas and that hurt it at the box office and now to coincide with the Oscar buzz the delay is cut short.

From what I've read "Taqngled" will revert back to a November release this fall.
