Princess and Pirates -- Good Idea???

But, I must admit that I am a huge fan of these events (with one exception).

Oh yeah... I forgot:

The exception to my positive critique is that special events at MK tend to close the park early. As a DVC member who goes at random times, I take offense to a 6 PM closing of a park (when sun goes down hours later). When I worked at AK the events were always at 6 or 7, but the park closed an hour earlier anyway.

I feel there should/can be some compromise. Some days regular guests will be upset and other days the events will have to be later (even if it means smaller crowds).

It appears this event will be during the off-peak time the first of next year. It's exactly like MVMCP and MNSSHP in that the event is used to pull more people at a historically lower attendance time. It's likely the park would have been closing at about the same time anyway... maybe an hour or so earlier. I don't see that as an issue since there will also be EMH evenings during the same period.

I think they may have a hit on their hands. I also think the idea that families would be split is far-fetched. The family visits one area and then moves on to another area together. It's a good time to teach their kids to wait their turn -- which appears to be needed with all the self-centeredness around.

If they make sure that families enjoy their time, find it to be 'special' and the kids enjoy the little events... this could become bigger than any of the other hard ticket events. Some people find the parties to be repetitive so they don't keep going each year; however, kids enjoy repetition and the familiar so they will want to go back again and again.

I would drop the cash anytime if it was in the 10-15 dollars per tix range. It seems like it would be on par to a round of mini-golf at wintersummerland. Personally, the $40/tix doesn't draw me in. Again, when the prices come out and more info is provided, I'll make a more informed judgement. Why not add Pioneers (Cowboys and Cowgirls) for frontierland, and Pilots (multi-gendered too) for Tomorrowland and do it all up. Something about a Wench by the rockets that doesn't sit right? It's kinda like the story of the Tomorrowland CM in Frontierland story. And maybe this just doesn't market to me the right way... and that's my problem. It seems way to overdisneyfied or something -- I don't know. I know that will get me flamed for sure... just thinking outloud...not trying to make anybody mad. Again price is everything. For 10 bucks -- sure -- 30 -- NO!

But the kids will still be pulled in 2 different directions... That's the concern I have.

It is a valid concern, but I think that prior to this idea, alot of little boys were being excluded. I think everyone has seen plenty of little princesses around. It is time for the other gender to share in the fun.

Actually, it sounds pretty cool to me.

And I should point out:

1. I have zero interest in pirates and/or princesses.
2. I do not have kids.
3. I won't be attending these pirate/princess nights.

But I still think it's a good idea.

I like to see that the company is always thinking of new ways to make the experience more personal for the guests, and to generate revenue at the same time. And why? Because the more money they have, the more they can afford to spend on upkeep, new attractions, and taking care of the CMs.

Speaking of which... I do hope that they use some of the money generated by these events to hire more CMs and pay them a competitive wage. We don't want tired, overworked CMs representing Disney. We want fresh, happy people who are being treated well. If the hours are going to get longer, there need to be more CMs to cover them.

And yeah, it sounds like this event is going to appeal more to kids. So what? I like having some attractions and events that don't appeal to kids, so it's only fair to have some that are aimed more squarely at them. Families with children generate a lot of money for Disney, and that's a good thing. If these are popular, Disney makes money, and everyone wins (assuming the money is well spent on investing in the parks and cast). If they aren't popular, they'll go away.

I think my favorite thing about the new pirate emphasis is that finally Disney is doing something to target boys the way that princesses have targeted the girls. Parents have been asking for this for a long time.

-p.b.

Couldn't agree with your more....Disney is a business. More money for the company is a good thing for the fans.

:D

I First of all, these events make money for Disney and cost me nothing.
It may not cost you something, but for someone like me who likes to end every night of his vacation at the MK, it takes away some of the enjoyment of my vacation.

possible prices from screamscape

Park News - (6/20/06) I mentioned the rumor last year, but it seems that the proposed Disney’s Pirate & Princess upcharge event at the Magic Kingdom is rumored to have been approved and will kick off on select dates starting late January 2007 through February and possibly even extend into March. Guests can arrive at the park in their favorite Pirate or Princess costume and set off into Royalty of Adventure. Adventures planned planned for the special event include a search through the park for Treasure, pit stops at Pirate Adventure Coves or Princess Royal Courts spread out throughout the park for specialized training sessions like character meet and greets, scimitar training, dance parties, princess image consulting, learn to speak like a pirate, make up make overs and more. The rumors say that the price of a ticket to these special nighttime events will run you between $39 and $45 for adults and about $7-8 less for children. They may actually start to sell tickets and reservations as early as July 10th.

The average guess probably would find something else to do....they would probably hit one of the other parks (probably Epcot) or head over to DTD. It is somewhat annoying that things don't go our way sometimes, especially while we're on vacation....I guess you can let it annoy you to the point it ruins your vacation or your can find something else to do, or you can be a pirate or a princess. :lookaroun :D

Or....plan ahead? *shrug*

Disney sees there's $$ to be made....

Well, we hit Epcot and then MK every night. This probably won't affect me, but I know it would upset me if I couldn't spend at least the last night of my vacation at MK. If I want pirates, I ride PotC. If I want princesses, I go to Fantasyland and wait in line to take pictures with one, but that's just me...

I'm betting this event will be very similar to the other hard ticket events. They won't occur on every night... just select nights. You'll still be able to plan you trip around those nights.

Okay. I'm new here but we're planning a trip in October. Can someone tell me what this pirate/princess thing is that you're talking about? We have tickets to MNSSHP and I have two DDs. Sounds like something we might be interested in...if I only knew the specifics!! :) Thanks for the help. :D

New celebration, I knew about. But this special ticket event is news to me! After reading all the above I have nothing new to add but this! Why couldn't this type of event replace the early moring hour for a small fee that would allow the participants to enjoy and then the park open for all so no early closing.

Example:
Princess mornings Mon, Wed, Fri at MK from 8 - 9:30 am Cost: $ 15.00
Pirate mornings Tues, Thurs, Sat at MK from 8 - 9:30 am Cost $ 15.00

Just a thought.....:D

Oh, so this won't be in place yet when we go in October?? :( That sucks!!

Okay...here's my next question. I see that it is expected to start in January 2007, does anyone know how long it is expected to run? I don't think we'll get back there until later in the year but I'm sure my DDs would LOVE this!! :animwink:

When this is going on the MK will be closed unless you have a ticket to the event correct? Which means the MK will close early to the other guests. I know they do that for the holiday parties but that is a little different. I am just concerned when I take my vacation in March that the park will close early and I won't be able to enjoy the park at night like I usually do.

This is true, but when they see he popularity of this and the $$'s rolling in they will start adding nights, just like they have done with MNSSHP. I can remember when MNSSHP was only done like 5 nights during the month of October, now look at it, it starts mid-September and is 18 nights during a month and a half.

Yes, but it's still not EVERY night. They will still have regular closing evening and EMH evenings.
