Prince Caspian trailer made me read Narnia --

Never had an interest in it before.

Watched the animated Lion, Witch, Wardrobe in Elementry School WAY to many times.

Found the first Narnia Movie to be a big stretching and build up to "The Passion of the Aslan" and HATED it the first time through. Even turned it off at the "sacrafice" part. Never saw the rest. Till the AWESOME trailer hit a few months ago.

Then I watched LWATW or is that LWW??? Really liked it knowing that EVERTHING would be in ruins and the cutsie Narnia would be in Chaos.

Then I picked up the books.

Magicians Nephew. I REALLY feel like they could do this as an Animated feature direct to DVD much easier than trying to stretch the story out to a feature film. There isn't much to it. Aslan isn't really magical or inviting in this one at all.

Lion, Witch, Wardrobe. I can see where this can be concidered the "Heart and Soul" of the series. It is a good stand alone story. Not great. After watching the movie -- the movie did WONDERS to improve the story and enhance the Narnia world. I did feel like the creative liberties really pulled the movie together.

Horse and his Boy. Least favorite in the series. Hated EVERY character til the met the Hermit in the woods. I still don't get where the other people came from and why none had bothered to venture to Narnia during the winter??? I guess they were always there. Just not very adventurous. Throwing the 4 siblings in at the end seemed like pandering to sell another book. I really hope they do this film as an "extra" on a DVD or go Direct to DVD with it as well. And can we be more racist to the Calormen in this series. You thought Tolkien and Lucas were bad. YIKES!!!

Prince Caspian. This will make a FANTASTIC film. I can't wait to see that crazy mouse come alive... My second favorite book of the series. The respect to the "High King" and being told that both him and Susan won't be back will be awfully hard to watch.

Dawn Treader. Golden. Doesn't even take place in Narnia AT ALL -- but it is still the absolute BEST. I can't wait to see who they cast as the cousin. What a delightful adventure. There are 20 fantastic scenes, each of which will be more memorable than the previous. And the end of the world!!!! Where none of the other books seems quite solid enough to be a full length movie, this steps up and could EASILY be split into too.

Silver Chair. Seems like another throw away when it comes to adaptation. I never got the feeling that ANY part of Narnia would be something Jill would want to be any part of. Aslan craps on her the whole time. She almost dies of cold how many times? When she finally gets to a point where she can enjoy SOMETHING -- she's sent right home as the King dies.

Last Battle. Was this the source material for Pan's Labrynth? It was very surreal... but knowing that there was nothing left took away all the risk. It was nice to see everybody together again. It was really funny when they all judged Susan and called her every dirty lyric from a hip-hop album, but then come to find out.. she had to be that way. She wasn't on the train... I still want to know what happened to the WITCH though. Resurrected several times. In Prince Caspian it even said that she would continue to come back ... but she didn't. And what was up with Tash?? Why didn't Aslan give a flip about any other humans unless they were Narnian?

While not perfect... and leaving readers dangling about a great many things (where did Lord Diggory's cash go -- that was a HUGE freakin' castle), it was a pretty good series that was mostly hindered by it's departures from the core characters. I am very excited about the next two fims (Caspian and Dawn). Don't know if I'm too worried about many others after that. Maybe the Final Battle. On second though... maybe not. Caspian rising from the river will be about the coolest scene in the thing though....

I never really read the books when I was younger. Before the first movie came out, I picked up the collection in one volume, just to try reading it before seeing the movie. I found myself mostly bored or annoyed with the narrative style. I couldn't stand "The Magician's Nephew" and only read it because it was the first story in the collection. Got to The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and was generally fine with it, except for the previously mentioned narrative style. For example, after Mr Beaver says something at one point early in his appearance it goes on to the effect of "which is a very unusual thing because as you know, boys and girls, beavers in our world cannot talk. But since Narnia is such a special and magical place, the beavers there can talk." After the third or fourth segment in that style, I had a hard time continuing on because it just annoyed me. I tried reading on past that story, but found that I couldn't even be bothered to care anymore. Mind you, I enjoyed the movie and my kids will want to see Prince Caspian, so I'll take them and probably enjoy the movie. I just don't see myself reading the books at all at this point.

If you do, you aren't missing a thing in Horse and Boy. Nothing from this is ever really mentioned again until the final book. Dawn is very much a modern Odyssey and is a direct sequel to Caspian. The two go together perfectly and could easily stand alone without any of the others.

I completely agree. Dawn Treader and Prince Caspian are my top two also!

I love it when the kid turns into a dragon  and has the bracelet stuck on his arm.
See, he's not bad...just misunderstood :)

I don't know about that. He's a total sourpuss -- but where does that come from. Maybe his cousins needed to spend a bit more time with him and lead the way -- oh wait -- that's what happens. Much better than Teenage Boot Camp. More schools should adopt a dragon policy.

I had always enjoyed LWW (that was pretty much the only Narnia book I had read). I absolutely LOVED the movie (thought they did a great job on it). Now I am looking forward to the next film, and have started reading the other books in the series.
