Prime Time Cafe on the chopping block?

Obviously, DHS is poised for some significant changes over the next few years, starting any day now. I recall Jim Hill saying at one point a while back that there were just a handful of things that were considered untouchable, and Prime Time was not one of them -- and, it's obviously on the side of the park that we know is going to be getting some attention. Does anyone have any intel on its status, whether it is like to stay or go, and if it's likely to go, how much longer it will be around?

I ask because it's one of my wife's favorite places. We're going to be there in a couple of weeks and would like to go if it's going to be going away, but the only ADR I could get is at a really awkward time. Would prefer to wait until we're back in October if it's still going to be there.

Thanks!

This is how rumors get started. Thanks for the misleading thread title.

IF the proposed SW land goes where the rumors say, then it won't match the theme of the area.

But why does that automatically mean it will be gone? Disney has in the past and can again "move" things to different locations.

If it really must be re-themed then re-theme it to the diner in Clones. Let's be honest. It's a sci-fi 50s diner. Not much of a stretch.

LOL, I live in a "mid century modern" house - just learned the term not long ago, haha. My grandparents called it "what they could afford" LOL.

I don't think we so much need to "relate" to 50's PTC, I just don't think that is the right word - but I do think it could use an entire rethink. I'd love to see them redo sections into actual sitcom kitchens - like, Golden Girls, or other classic shows. That would be so much fun.
Thats an awesome idea!

We have eaten there a couple of times and it just isn't my thing. That being said, I would really hate to see it go as so MANY people love it and they have so few (well) themed restaurants.

oh and please don't close Mama Melrose...just relocate it for me.

I thought the question mark would be a dead giveaway that it was a question, not a statement. With that being the case, it's only misleading if you read the title and assume that's what is happening but don't bother to actually read the post. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Way to miss the point as to why Gertie is even in the Studios.
I know why Gertie is where she is now. I was just saying that since Echo Lake could very well be paved over, then move Gertie in with Chester and Hester. I don't want to see it be given the Horizons treatment.

Or they could realize there's perfectly good parking lot to use for Star Wars and Echo Lake can remain a transitional zone.

They want Star Wars to be upfront and as close to Hollywood Blvd as possible because that was mentioned as why Star Tours had such polar reactions in Disneyland vs DHS. The fact that it's right off of Main St in Tomorrowland is why it's more popular when compared to its location in Hollywood Studios.

I think they were simply asking a question, not starting a rumor. Anyhoo, I would be sad to see it go. The decor reminds me of my grandma's house. However, sometimes with great progress comes great change, so if sacrificing some of these things means a newer, better DHS, I would be accepting of it. :)

I think the 50's/60's are still pretty popular- as evidenced by the fact that Universal just built an entire hotel/resort themed to that time period.

Also, it seems to me that you might be able to leave the building (retheming the wall facing echo lake as the backdrop to whatever new land they build) and reconfigure it so there are entrances off of Hollywood Blvd and/or the backstage area on prospect ave.

I still say it'd be dumb of them to pave over Echo Lake. They have so much other room to use. It wouldn't work unless they transition it REALLY well. I can't see them doing SUCH a huge overhaul. Why take away what isn't hurting the park? I just don't get it.

That place tends to attract crazies, though.

The last two times I've been there I've run into people who are blitzed out of their mind on pills and won't stop talking to me.
Wow..that IS crazy. We've been there at least 15 times and have never run into anything like that...

I really like Prime Time Cafe... Have eaten there dozens of times...love the lounge and all it offers...It is great, unique theme park dining...We need more places like this...When it was built it made total sense...the attractions nearby were about classic television... With them long gone, the restaurant feels a little out of place. Maybe if they retheme that area they can move this whole restaurant to a new area within the park... It would even go over well as a standalone concept at Downtown Disney,...
