Priceless Discoveries…at WDW and on The FANTASY!!

When: March 21-26, 2012
Where: Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort and Disney Fantasy
Who: Me(Missy) and my DH Levi (along with Kingdom Konsultant owner Pam, agent Tammy and their guests!)
Why: 2012 EarMarked Conference

When I found out I was going to be able to attend, saying I was excited would certainly be an understatement. This was going to be my first EarMarked conference, and if I know Disney(which I think I do!), I was going to have the time of my life!

My first decision was who to take. We have 2 young daughters, but we ultimately decided to make it a date trip! I knew I would have conference obligations and neither of the kids have cruised before, so it just seemed like the best decision to let them have a vacation at their grandparents’ houses instead.

I landed at MCO on Wednesday night, slightly before my scheduled time. Levi had work obligations, so he wasn’t going to arrive until Thursday night. Tammy’s gang wasn’t too far behind, so I waited for them near the DME counter. I knew I was too late to make it to any parks anyway.

I have never had such a long wait to the DME bus though! It seemed to take forever, but I think it’s safe to say that we must have waited for nearly an hour.

This was my first stay at Coronado Springs Resort. If someone asked me to describe it, I think the easiest explanation would be that it is set up like a typical Disney moderate resort. There is a main building housing registration and dining. And, much like POR and CBR, there is a body of water surrounded by many buildings of hotel rooms. At night, it was simply beautiful seeing all of the lights glistening off of the water.

From what I was told, all of the agents there for conference were assigned to the Ranchos section. It was the farthest distance away from the main building and conference center, but they had internal bus services set up just for us, making it as convenient as possible.

Here is my room

I have mixed feelings about the sliding doors separating the bathroom area from the rest of the room. They looked really nice, but mine was hard to move, and made quite a bit of noise also. I think the curtain divider we had in February at POR accomplished the same idea, and was easier to use.

These rooms do, in my opinion, have a more deluxe feel and look with the décor than the other moderate resorts though.

After I located my room, I walked a lap around the lake to get a better feel for the resort. It wasn’t a short walk by any means, but it wasn’t bad either. Being a mom who is used to pushing a stroller, I can see how the walk could become tiring after several days though.

The next morning, I met up with Pam and Tammy bright and early. We headed directly to the conference center to get our registration packets.

As soon as I walked through the door, I spied Tommy Keesling. He was our guide in January for the Agent Education Program the Kingdom Konsultants attended. He is so nice and so knowledgeable. I squealed his name like a school girl, and in return got a big hug. His official title is Training Manager, Travel Agency Sales. Eat your heart, DisneyHeather!

At the registration desk, I was given a bag of goodies.
Included in it were many helpful things, like an iPod touch to guide us through our schedule while at WDW and also on the ship. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the app with the deck plan will be made available for all!

Breakfast was being provided in the conference center, courtesy of Disney Visa. We sat to eat and listened to a Disney Visa rep give information on the newest Disney Visa options.

After breakfast, we moved into a conference room to begin our first general session. With surprise guests from the Adventurers Club and repeat appearances by Ivana Dream through the day, there was rarely a dull moment. During the sessions, we received new information on various Disney Parks attractions, updates to our Travel Agent website, and a special presentation from Adventures by Disney guides.

During our lunch break, we were honored to share a table with Ed Fouche (Sr Vice President, Travel Industry Sales America) and Craig Parsons (Vice President, National Account & Account Travel Agency Sales). For any of you who followed Disney Cruise Line Blog on Facebook like I did, while the Fantasy made its voyage from Germany, Ed is the guy who did the updates! They were both so kind, of course, and we saw Ed and his family several times onboard. And in case anyone is wondering, even Ed’s granddaughter had to wait in line to buy things at the stores, just like the rest of us. Haha.

Here are Craig, Pam, and Ed at lunch.

And we had great afternoon snacks, too!

Pam, Tammy, and I met at Cabanas for a quick breakfast, and then headed to the Walt Disney Theatre for our closing session. It was filled with great info and a surprise visit from original Mickey Mouse Club members Cubby and Sherry.

It was so interesting to listen to their stories, and we had a great time, but what was driving me crazy was that we had been in port at Castaway Cay since 7am, and it was now after 11am! Levi got off the ship on his own to tour around. He had been hoping to do a fishing excursion, but since this was a preview cruise, it was not available for booking that day.

This was the view from our stateroom. Amazing. Seriously, amazing. We have arrived in paradise!!

If you want your stateroom to have a view like this, make sure to book an oceanview room on the Starboard side of the ship.

It was at this point, when we got off the ship for the first time, that it really hit me how incredible this moving city at sea is. I just stood there staring at it. I was in complete awe. It is huge. It is beautiful. And it made me tear up!

So, there I am in paradise, and all I wanted to do was stand and look at this ship! To make matters even more difficult, here she comes again, the Disney Dream!

We noticed several photographers around, including one way up high on a lift. I’m sure we were witness to marketing material to be used for years to come!

Here are the fishing boats that Levi wasn’t able to fish on.

We finally started walking again, and decided to have lunch before taking the tram to Serenity Bay.

Serenity Bay was an absolute must-do. We knew we would not ever be doing this again without our children, at least not in the next 15 years or so, so we wanted to take advantage of some adult beach time.

You can’t tell me you wouldn’t want to sit in a beach chair and stare at this all day!!!

Proof that we were there.

And this one is for Tammy
135.jpg

I rented a raft to float on, and Levi had his goggles with him, so he swam around quite a bit. We had two great lounge chairs under an umbrella and had a fantastic afternoon.

Before we knew it, it was nearing time to head back to the ship. We wanted to have time to give Pelican Plunge a try, so we did that next.

136.jpg

This area is not intended for small children. You must swim out to the slides, as the water is more than 6 feet deep. There are life jackets available if you need one. There are two slides. One is open, and the other enclosed. The enclosed one is by FAR the fastest moving. People appeared to be launched out at the end! One go-round on the slide was enough for me, but Levi went a second time.

Here are some more photos from the family areas.

Here we are just before getting back onto the ship. Just look at that in the background…so majestic. I love her. I really, really love her. What a ship!

And here’s Dumbo!

We had just enough time for a quick clean up and needed to head to dinner. Royal Court was great, but we rushed out quickly at the end for another glimpse of the Disney Dream as she sailed by. This time we were on a lower deck, so she seemed even larger, and more majestic.

We had a lot of packing and organizing to do. Our luggage needed to be placed outside our room tonight, but of course we needed to keep all of our things for the next day out in a carry on.

We put our swim suits on again, and headed to the hot tub to relax. We had a nice time visiting with some cast members who work activities within the kids clubs. After chatting with them, I am even more likely to feel comfortable with my kids participating in the clubs. In case you’re wondering, because of their ranking, they are permitted to use pools, hot tubs, etc as long as it is not interfering with any guest’s vacation. They had been onboard since the ship left Germany and were anxious to start their first “real” cruise.

We went back to our room, and were ready to call it a night, when my wave phone rang. It was Tammy, and she and her DH were heading to Europa. We’re in!

We stopped at The Tube first, and it was hoppin’ (and loud!). Not quite our speed, so we decided to try Skyline instead. That was perfect. It was a nice way to close out an exciting day, and we thought it was going to be our last goodbye since Tammy and crew had an early flight, and Levi and I didn’t.

Oh, and I should mention that while we were sitting there enjoying the pixie dusted change of scenery, Tommy(as in, training, conference Tommy) walked in and I got another hug. Again, he’s just so smart and full of Disney knowledge, which is why he is also the professor for the College of Disney Knowledge program.

We returned to our room, to find the beds turned down as usual. It’s amazing how relaxed that can make one feel! Although, I think this picture was taken the night before. See the gold coin candy?

142.jpg

We went to bed around 1am, but decided to set the alarm for 6am. We didn’t want to miss the chance to see Pam and Tammy one last time before we parted ways!
Breakfast on your last morning is always in the restaurant where you dined the night before, which meant we were in Royal Court.

I just realized that I haven’t mentioned our servers at all! They were fantastic! Anyone who can put up with Levi’s multiple entrees and my multiple desserts deserves much accreditation as far as I’m concerned!

Anyway, back to breakfast, we ate quickly, and said our goodbyes. I love working with such great people, but hate that some of us are so far away, and don’t see each other on a regular basis.

Levi and I took one more stroll around the upper decks. All was calm and quiet.
143.jpg

Tables were set up on both sides of the deck for use as media centers.
144.jpg

And here we are at the terminal
145.jpg

We wandered a little more, and finally made our way downstairs and off the ship.

One quick stop for a picture with Minnie
146.jpg

We had a flight out of MCO that afternoon, so we checked our luggage with the onboard check-in service. It is just so convenient, I can’t recommend it enough!

We breezed through customs and guess who we saw as we headed out, Sam Champion from Good Morning America. He was very kind.
147.jpg

We walked out the door, and got right on a bus headed to MCO. We took our time making it to security because we had several hours to kill before our flight. I used the opportunity to book a 3 night cruise on the Dream next winter. Can’t wait!
