Yeah, just two. However it cost us about $25.50 total last trip since my son decided he just had to have every single pressed penny he came across. :D

Thanks! Actually, I'm using pressed penny kits as gifts for the 20-something kids in our cruise group that range in ages 4-17. The cruise has a WDW day included so I thought it'd be fun. I'll include a printed sheet that has links to the penny bandz website & some links to other websites that tell you how to make things with the pressed pennies. ;)

You might already know this but if at all possible get pennies that were minted prior to 1982. New pennies are around 95% zinc and are plated with copper. This produces a rather unevenly colored pressed penny. Prior to 1982, pennies were about 99% copper. If you have a coin dealer near you they will often sell pre-1982 pennies for about $1-$2 per roll.

51 cents for a penny. Something I never understood. Should be like 10 cents or so IMO. But 51 cents isn't the most expensive I've seen though

Didn't know this! Definitely going to sift back thru the loose change jug. We dug out all the shiniest pennies. LOL! Then again, the streaked look could make for interesting looking jewelry. :D

The plastic m&m containers work great for carrying pennies and quarters making it easier to retrieve. Another tip I was told but haven't tried is the mentos containers are great to hold your press pennies.

Those are great ideas! To gift them to the kiddos in the cruise group I put 4 quarters and 2 shiny pennies into a tiny ziplock bag (from Hobby Lobby). We keep those itty bitty ziplocks in our travel stuff box because they're great for packaging daily meds & vitamins. The coins fit nicely!

I also went on the interwebs top find a list of penny pressing locations. I typed up my own version utilizing the info and will include that with the coins. I think it'll be a fun gift. There's some neat stuff you can make with the pressed pennies. I Googled it this morning and nearly died! I'm so making a list of pennies I want so I can go retrieve them to make fun jewelry for myself!

I second the plan to use pre-1982 pennies. If you don't, sometimes they're all uglied up with streaks. You can buy pre-1982 pennies online, if you want.

Like others said, 2 quarters is the fee for pressing. :)

I LOVE making pressed pennies, especially in Disney. It's a pretty cheep thing to do as long as you don't need every single penny in WDW. Its fun to see whats new each year and to try to find the pressed penny machines throughout the parks. I bought 2 of the Disney pressed penny books to keep them in, but I filled the second one on my last trip and need to buy a 3rd. I also make pressed pennies from other places, its a fun way to remember the trip and they are fun to find in your wallet when you get home and miss vacation.

Destroying currency in the UK is illegal o_O

Actually, it is also illegal to destroy currency here in the US, but the US Justice Department must pick and choose its battles. Case in point, the use of Marijuana is a Federal Offense, however, two states just passed referendums to leaglize it. Go figure.

Sorry, wasn't meaning to turn this into a political issue, just started chasing the rabbit down the hole. I'm back now. :p

Yes, but the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act of 1970 supercedes any state law so the people are still not (technically) allowed to use the drug. It is still classified as a Class 1 narcotic and therefore illegal to use. :D

And in relation to the post, I doubt the police are going to be knocking any doors down. I think that the way pressed pennies are looked at is that they are a bought commodity. You pay the $0.50 to turn that penny into a purchased item so there is likely to be no real legal issues there. However, it is illegal to smash the pennies with a hammer on the sidewalk. ???? Go figure. o_O

Pressed Penny machines are actually legal in the U.S. Since they are not used fraudulently (trying to turn a penny into a dime, trying to melt the coin for the raw metal, etc.), but rather are used to create souvenirs that could not be mistaken for actual currency, they are legal. OK in the U.K., too, but not so in Canada.

They're a fun collectible. We have several completely filled books. :)

I did this for my great niece and nephew when I took them to the World. I gave them each one roll of quarters and 20 pennies, and bought them a book to keep them in. Then, instead of ending up with 2 pennies from the same attraction, they took turns pressing their pennies so we had a nice selection. It's been 3 years, and they still take the book out and remember all the fun we had.
