Press event question

Hello all.
Mouseplanet is reporting a tentative date for Wishes to debut Oct 8 at an international press event.
Here's my question (or actually a series of them): If this does work out, should we avoid magic kingdom that day? Do the international press events have an impact on crowd levels? Or would it only affect crowds that evening closer to the show?
Also, the park hours listed for the day have MK closing at 6:00. Of course that's too early for a fireworks show. Would Wishes only be for the press that evening? Would they expand hours for everyone?
Thanks for any info!:D

It may be only for the press--they are closing Epcot the following day a full 6 hours early for the press, so park guests may either get previews before October 8th, as Disney does usually have "soft openings" for new firework shows a couple days in advance, or they may have to wait until October 10th. Perhaps they are hoping by having these openings across two days, with one park closing early each day, guests won't get too annoyed. October 9th might be a good night to premier the show to park guests, since there will be no IllumiNations that night...who knows?

I think that is ridiculous. If I was there on vacation, I would be furious about that. I know - you could go to a different park that day - but some people "just" come for Epcot.

Well, it's not as bad as Disneyland closing at 6 pm on a Saturday night for the Pirates preview, forcing all guests to go to Cali Adventure...THAT was ridiculous. At least wdw parks are big enough to handle the greater influx of guests

Hehe... I'm one of those people. I actually scheduled my vacation around that date. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was actually closed to the public. I suppose if I actually sat down and thought about I would've realized it was a press only event but still. :hammer: Oh well. It's not like I won't get to ride the ride. Plus, the opening of phil and a possible new fireworks show will hopefully make up for it.

And where might I be able to get my hands on one of those suckers. Time to start searching ebay. Actually I entered that online contest to be invited on the opening day way back when. But I think I wouldve been notified by now if I won. :hammer:

Makes sense to me, but - as you say - who knows? Chances are, the final decision on previews will happen just a few days in advance.

b.t.w, I was surprised to hear of a press event so close to a holiday weekend. Usually, they do those things the first weekend in October.

Everything is set in stone for the Press Event Dates and times.

If you really wanted to see whishes on the 8th, the Contemporary used to have the 15th floor observation deck, but they closed it, so now they have a Huge fireworks viewing platform on the 4th Floor Grand Canyon Concourse. Its on the shops side of the floor, and the door is behind the Bay View Gifts Store.

Here is a Pic of the platform

Not likely.... (I know you are kidding but) Most media companies weather it be, broadcast or print, will fire you right then and there on the spot if you are caught selling, abusing, or getting some kind of monetary "gift" for your media credentials...

Plus you usually have to show your event pass PLUS you’re press pass, and your Drivers License or State ID..(sometimes your social sec. number to) And its all crossed checked with a master list they have.

Now AFTER the event is a totally different story... then you may see some on eBay. :)

I just went to the 15th floor observation deck this past weekend. No signs, and no one stopping me. Others were out there. I also did it in February.

I don't think they are trying to stop anyone anymore, unless maybe it might get crowded....

It is a nice place. My favorite place in the resort.

Hmm I was told that it was closed, which is why they built the new deck outside....
