Potty Training Help

We are heading down to WDW on 9/1. I have a son who is almost 2 1/2. We began potty training early in the summer. It wasn't going well. So about 2 weeks ago I said to myself "just forget it and wait until after vacation." Now he's been asking to go "______ in toilet" much to my surprise, but he doesn't always make it. He more or less tells me he has to go after he goes. So I've been keeping him in pull ups during the mornings.

For those of you who have been training boys before trips, what did you do? Did you keep up with it? I'm not sure if I should keep trying and I'm now getting nervous about packing. I'm not sure if I should just pack diapers, just pull ups or a little of both.

I tried a search and couldn't find out much.

We took my daughter when she was 2 almost 3 and when I booked the trip she had no interest in potty training. I'm a believer in letting the child let you know when they are ready to be trained. So low and behold 2 days before our trip she was suddenly interested in training, I can't lie when I say that I did briefly think about trying to push it off until we got back but then I reminded myself how important it is to be consistent when training b/c in the long run getting her trained was more important and worth the added inconveinence of frequent bathroom stops. So we did exactly what we did at home, underware during the day, frequent tries in the bathrooms around Disney World and diapers at night (even though she was dry all night for a while at that point). I think she had maybe 2 accidents there and wouldn't you know it by the time we got back a week later, we had a great souvenir a child that was diaper free.

My wonderful mother (my full-time babysitter) decided 2 weeks before we went last November to train my 3 year old DD. I wanted to scream---actually I did.

Anyway, I made her wear a pull-up to the airport and on the plane. We put her back in her panties once we got to the hotel. Before getting on any bus, we went to the bathroom. Before getting on any rides, we went. Before any parades, we went. I actually found a bathroom that in 20 visits, I had never been to before! I also made her wear a pull-up if she was going to nap in the stroller during the day - or if I thought she was going to go to sleep on the bus on the way back to the hotel at night - this way I just put her to bed.

She did awesome. Our trip back in April she was 2 months short of 4 years old, and I did the same. She was actually laughing at me but did it willingly. I must say she never wet the pull-up on either trip - but it was a safety measure I felt much better with.

This is exactly what we did with my children, but I was lucky that I had my then 13 year old daughter to help me with my son. When we stopped in the BR, she would tell him "Assume the position!" Between going to WDW with both pregnancies, and doing this with both children, I also knew where every restroom was located.

That knowledge will come in handy in a decade or two.
