Potential updates to Avatar Flight of Passage

Wasn't there talk/rumors that a third attraction was already designed and ready to go (depending on the success of the sequel?) I mean, if Avatar 2 is a resounding success, I would imagine a new film for FOP would be a faster change than a new ride and could be done as a stop gap measure until a new ride could be built, but still I think it would be pretty crazy if they put a new film into FOP (a one off ride that has no clones anywhere) before putting new films into Smuggler's Run or Holiday Overlays for Midway Mania (both of which could benefit multiple parks).

Why no coasters? There is only 1 in AK right now

DAK doesn't need more height restricted/higher thrill rides at this time, not until there are a bunch more calmer family rides first. The Moana ride - were it to happen, which seems likely - already seems like another higher thrill option given the potential drop a la Splash.

I don't think there would be a problem with more coasters per se as long as a bunch of other rides were build in parallel.

By definition Smugglers Run should have the most.rerideability but the guest impact is not what was promised. That is an example of how variables(and in that case, expected guest interactivity) does not really pay off.
A lot of people feel they spent so much on tweaking Star Tours to the point where some.lf the best endings were lessened.
When Indiana Jones Adventure opened at Disneyland, they promoted it as "So many variable, it's never the same ride twice!"

Turns out, it never is the same ride twice, but only because the ride vehicles had to stop every twenty seconds or so to keep enough distance between vehicles and the ride would shut down all the time.

The re-ridablity of Smuggler's Run has to do with the fact that you only get to play one "role" in the crew.

BTW, it makes no sense to me that Disney's screen-centric rides (especially the IP-based ones) don't routinely receive updates.

Updates and randomization and interactive experiences are not the same though. Sometimes the interactivity is forced or a ploy.

Also, your Indiana Jones point is partly true but just for clarification's sake:

Each vehicle had different motion base maneuvers to give a slight variance, so marketing used it as well as that illusion at the beginning of the attraction. The fact that it never paid off into fruition the way they wanted it to impact the guests proves my point.

While screen attractions can and should be updated with ease in comparison to more practical effects hardware, the budget to make three variables can be combined to make one really great experience rather than the gimmick of just being different.

I would rather ride The Amazing Adventures of Spiderman once at IOA because it is great(it was even updated, but still all the effort into making the experience great rather than random) and it is still the theme park standard of great theme park attractions. I will take that any day vs any randomization or interactivity that is a part of Web Slingers at DCA.

So if Disney is budgeting an attraction like they do, I will take a money towards ONE great design and produced film vs a more multiple that divides it.

Understandable, I do agree with you that another coaster is not the #1 thing Dak needs right now. I went in recently with my pregnant wife and the only ride Disney said she could do in the park was Navi.

Actually I think this is a great idea as these "video" style rides lend themselves to this sort of thing. Just wish I had been able to ride the original concept when I was there! :p

I wonder how a coaster would fit into the highly themed Pandora. I know one was rumored but we never heard much of it...

I prefer a better experience than what I can get out of coaster that lasts a few minutes. You can put lipstick on it, with with a pre-show and projections, but at the end of the day, the experience with similar to what can get at a Six Flags. After recently riding Guardians, with all the additions to a coster, it didn’t ‘feel’ better than other coasters, and not worth the price and damage to the sightline. I enjoy some coasters, and still like the 20 year old Rockin' Rollercoaster, but the recent addition of Tron, Guardians, and Slinky, is enough coaster experiences, and I prefer something more Disney. As a kid of the 80's, the parks were fun going from attractions that were over 10 minutes long, opposed to today, rushing around for experiences that are shorter than a song.

Well the good thing would be you have the creator who could help come up with something that feels in universe. There's a lot of cool things they can do. I think a coaster around the thrill level of 7D mine train or a flume ride would work well.

There's a post on FB: You must keep one: This guy, the DINOSAUR guy, and Dr. Nigel Channing. My choice is the DINOSAUR guy. The Pandora guy and Dr. Channing are too annoying.

I sincerely doubt we get a "calm ride" in Pandora, we already have 2. Something more thrilling (but not intense) like POTC Shanghai makes sense.

Would be cool to see that trackless motion base all-terrain ride system that Dynamic Attractions developed be utilized by Disney.

I haven't been on POTC Shanghai, but from videos I'd think Flight of Passage is more thrilling.

Of course it's relative to an extent, and I wouldn't call FoP the most thrilling ride, but I don't think most people would consider it a calm attraction either.

Everest is one of the best themed rides at WDW. Hagrid's over at USO is also definitely not something you can experience at your local 6 flags.

Coasters done right 100% can have the Disney difference
