PotC mist screen removed/turned off for good

The site that shall not be named just tweeted not too long ago that the mist waterfall effect at the beginning of Pirates has been turned off and is gone for good, with audio being restored to “Dead men tell no tales.” Haven’t seen this reported anywhere else, can anyone confirm?

I’m also curious what this means for the rest of the ride, it seems like the movie references are being phased out slowly, starting with the mermaids.

I noticed the mist was off when I rode last week. I heard "Dead men tell no tales" but didn't think much of it other than, "Oh the mist is off again."

I wouldn't mind if they kept one Jack Sparrow AA and then returned most of the ride dialogue to what it used to be instead of every line being about Captain Jack Sparrow

They can start with the ship scene and the Captain saying "Jack Sparrow" this and "Jack Sparrow" that. At least the other scenes have AAs of Jack hiding nearby and Jack at the end drunk with his treasure.

Good riddance. Stinking thing worked about 1/2 of the time.

Could just be me.... Mermaids worked at first, could not effectively be maintained. Mist Screen worked at first, could not effectively be maintained. Is there a pattern here? I suspect WDW is having a hard time recruiting the PEOPLE that get a combo of mechanics, electronic control systems, and computers.

...and experience with maintenance in water-based attractions. Apparently that causes a lot of issues....just ask Sea World with the upkeep issues in Journey to Atlantis

I definitely agree that the first scene is much better without the fog screen. On Tuesday, it was just the 'dead men tell no tales' and it gave a much better ambiance and mood to the whole area. The blue lights on the waterfall on the left are great! Also, I love that they brought back the talking skull on the drop.

At the end escalator, Blackbeard's narration is still there. Honestly, I'm surprised they kept the Blackbeard references as long as they have since POTC 4 wasn't as popular as the original trilogy. At least Blackbeard was a real pirate and fits the ride without having to reference the films.

I'd say, you might be onto something when it comes to 3rd shift were that maintenance work needs to take place.

You might also just be onto the reality of what "Disney" considers show quality upkeep these days.
(and Disney isn't alone in this BTW.. other parks let things slip to)

Sadly, it's not what it used to be... IE.. how many effects can be "broken" before a ride goes 101.

and... there really isn't much incentive for those who truly "care" to stick around and deal with the BS
just to make the park like it used to be when Walt was alive...

I wouldn't mind the mist itself returning - just to give that foggy feeling (or fog machines generally). But, I agree the original audio and no projection really helps drive that creepy beginning!

Walt wasn’t alive when WDW was built?????

Is the mermaid skeleton on the beach gone for good as well? I don't think it was there last time I rode the attraction.
