PotC Hidden Skull?

The skull has always been there, if I remember right it use to say "dead men Tell no Tales". I have not seen it working in a very long time, so they cover it.

The original skull was completely removed more than ten years ago as part of the movie enhancements. Odds are pretty high that a new skull has been fabricated if it is indeed making a return.

That is an amazing effect, but I want as little Pirates film content in the original attractions as possible.
And I kinda agree with you there too... Wish the WDW version had a little more of the Anaheim or Paris versions...Fully fleshed out Pirate Caves, better effects... Sword fighting animatronics... Just more...instead of the cliff notes version we have now.

I love WDW's Pirates. But, absolutely, experiencing DL's or Paris' is breathtaking. The caverns is such a missed opportunity in Orlando. If they made better use of the small little cave we have now, it could make up for a lot. And, imho, the soon to be re-installed skull will contribute to that quite a bit.

I think they're saying they might have held on to the old one, and have perhaps now pulled that out of storage. Having no knowledge one way or the other I would suspect a new skull is more likely, but who knows.

Is it safe to assume this move might have something to do with the new Pirates film, whose title derives from the famous echoes in this particular cave?
I would bet on a new one. After all in 2006 at Disneyland they did change the design.

I think they should lose the mist screen effect and then fit out the caves like the other pirates...the skeletons and treasure and shipwreck parts... Have the Pirate steering the shipwreck morph into a human form thus signaling your journey back in time...down the waterfall and away you go...

Now, if the Skeleton steering the shipwreck in the storm suddenly morphed into Johnny Depp a-la Shanghai, What a spectacular transition that would make... from present day to the past.... Wow...
But this is TDO, it could never happen....
There is no time travel in the WDW Version of the Attraction. Everything happens in the "Present" circa Eighteenth Century Caribbean.

Actually the Florida version used to have audio in the caves explaining that ye have seen the cursed treasure...blah blah blah, but it was not done in a way that manyo people could really understand it... I think that was meant to be the bridge to the past...of sorts. Much like Disneyland... but not as effective

Yes and that was really poorly placed on the original Imagineer's part but most evidence points to the fact that WED intended there to be no time travel.

Also of note:
Has anyone looked at the steering pirate lately? Let's just say that now he looks... familiar.
On a more serious note, the latest clear footage of the scene on YouTube is from 3 weeks ago. Comparing what is seen in that video to my photos from last year, the scene had not yet changed. So whatever has been done seems to have happened sometime in the last 3 weeks.

What about squalls? I was hoping for some squalls.

So my parents took our family to DW in late summer 1987. I was about 4 or 5 months at the time. (They never took me back btw, how rude). Anyway my brothers who were 4 at the time favorite story is from this talking skull. We all get on to ride. My dad hates anything thrill rideish and think this is a very calm ride, rightfully so. However after the skull give the warning my dad yells "O Sh*t". And then the drop happens and my brothers will never let my Dad live it down.

I vote for a major pirates overhaul for the 50th, something like Shanghais version. I'm sure there are ways they could expand the show building if they wanted to.

The only overhaul I would accept is if they were to overhaul it back to virtually how it was in 1973. That may be an oversimplification but here is what I would do.
Exterior-Cannons will fire again, most 2006 signage remains. I am assuming that the awful "Dead Men Tell No Tales" Banner on the tower was removed during the last refurb same with this.

Queue bring back original 1973 audio arrangement
Grotto-Remove "Marketing Mist" Mermaids song can stay or go though i would slightly prefer it goes I would also not bring back the talking skull but that's just me.
Bobardment-Have Geoffory Rush re-record Paul Free's original dialogue or bring back original Captain with voice of Paul Frees and if Barbossa must stay, please make sure he is in the right costume. Why is he in his Privateer outfit when he is clearly leading a group of Pirates?
Well-restore original dialogue, Jack stays.
Auction-don't mess with
Chase-Pooped Pirate gets all new dialogue, Jack stays in barrel Not touching the Political Correctness thing.
Burning Town-No real changes
Jail-No changes
Treasure Room-Re-write of some dialogue to make it less of an endorsement of Piracy.
Upramp-Remove voices
