That's good. I did notice that they were missing as of last Monday (5/17/10). I don't know why they keep having problems with those hats!

I have only ridden PotC once since the Depp addition so I didn't even know the hats were missing.

Shame how they ruined that ride. Was that Eisner's last decision as he headed out the door?

That would be pretty funny if it was. A bit of a parting jab at the company.

I'm now naming this issue as the PotC "Hat"astrophe. Good to hear they are back and I hope they stay this time.

I still think the Hatbox Ghost is stealing them and hiding them from CMs. :lookaroun

How exactly did they ruin the ride? They added a mist effect, removed 3-4 AAs, added 3-4 new AAs, and changed a couple script lines. Beyond that its the exact same attraction as it was before.

The changes were made to keep the ride relevant to new WDW visitors. Especially since 90% of the casual visitors (non-WDW fanatics) use to ask were Capt Jack was when exiting the ride. I think the additions were made in a very tasteful manor, they didn't do a complete overhaul of the ride and completely change it, they kept it pretty much the same and integrated a few Jack AA's into some scenes. So I'm confused as to how you think a few small changes completely ruined a ride.

I agree with your overall opinion, but did you enjoy pulling that statistic out your ? ;)

The changes were major; the entire attraction is now about finding Jack Sparrow instead of a simple ransack.

That said, WDW's truncated PoTC is better with the Jack Sparrow storyline—now the ride doesn't seem so purposeless. IMO, Disneyland's version was ruined because it already had enough extra scenes to give the ride a satisfying storyline.

as disney fanatics, and potc fanatics in particular, we didn't think the additions took anything from the ride, we love them. However, we do very much miss the skull at the top of the waterfall, and don't really understand why he had to go :(

I can assure you there is nothing simple about a ransack. Lots of planning is involved. There are headcounts to do before and after to make sure no man is left behind. Assault ships must be prepared, cutlasses sharpened, muskets cleaned, slacks pressed, rum drunk beforehand, cannons pre-loaded.

I wonder what the problem here is.

I always assumed that there was a flexible metal wire or tube that ran up from the figure's head and through the hats to anchor them together. Guess not.
(though really, a quick trip to home depot and I could fix this issue in an afternoon! WDI, call me!)

Yeah, this was brilliant.

I finally saw him WITH hats on Friday, June 10th. The hats were very different though then the last time I saw them over a year ago - bunch of ladies hats mainly. I was excited to see them since I know they're oddly hit-and-miss even within the same week!
