PotC Down for Days

Wait, are people actually saying it's not normal for Pirates to be down frequently? Dang. If that's the case, we're gonna have to start planning our trips when you guys go. We've been in February, March, April, September, October and December and found one common denominator. Pirates will ALWAYS go down at some point.

Well, the Unofficial guide's "Lines" app in the past has indicated that the ride does go down periodically and gives tips on what time it has typically been available again based on their extensive history.

But yeah, Pirates seemed to be closed the entire day Wednesday, as well as when I kept periodically checking the status for the next few days.

Just returned from a trip that ended on May 1st. Was affected by the Pandora issues which was very frustrating. However, what was more frustrating was the frequency of other rides going down. People mover went down at least 3 times when we were in line for it. We got to ride Splash Mountain, however the entire ride was "off" for lack of a better word. No song, all animatronics were not operating, just an entire ride of nothing. We mentioned to the CM assuming they would never send people on the ride knowing it was down, but they said they knew. Dinosaur was down frequently during our trip. Journey into Imagination was not down, but certain elements didn't seem to be working. I believe Test Track was also down for a significant period of time on our Epcot day. However, we didn't experience any issues with Pirates and I was pleasantly surprised by the new scene. We had already seen in Paris, but couldn't understand the dialogue.

I really enjoyed the trip, but agree with a comment a family member made that "we pay a lot of money for so many things to not be working." The trip was designed to get to see Pandora and that basically just turned into a headache. It felt over and over that the magic is gone a bit and we will likely vacation elsewhere for the next few years.

I got back home yesterday. PeopleMover stopped twice while we were on it. Pirates was down every time I checked on it. Imagination was down on Sunday (and is in rather rough shape on the inside). Nemo had a ridiculous number of people standing in line -- out the front door of the pavilion!

My traveling party wasn't affected by anything other than Pirates.

However, we randomly ran into friends of ours at IOA, and they said that almost all the major attractions at the Animal Kingdom were down when they visited the previous day -- but they did manage to get on Flights of Wonder!

Had a FP for SM on Friday night and minutes before it went 101. No biggie, turned and hit BTMRR.

Got off that and that's when the millions of people (mostly cheerleaders) left the hub to hit all the rides. So much for getting a bonus ride on SM.

Seems like the peoplemover has been down several times a day. No evac, just restart.

Most ride stops that do not result in evac are guest caused.

PM was having some brief issues the last few days; mostly the ramps up/down for loading.

In the last week, the Na'vi River Journey (and Flights of Passage) were down for three days. What I haven't seen mentioned is that PotC has also been down for about three days this week. I asked the CM and they were mum on details. No idea what's wrong, no idea when it's coming back... I think the pirates were revolting due to the new redhead scene.

I've noticed a lot of odd stuff this week, too. The waves in front of Living Seas (err, Nemo and Friends) were dry. The Tikis in front of Jungle Cruise are (still) missing for refurb. Several rides (like Pooh, Peter Pan and Jungle Cruise) dropped for various spans (several of which resulted in my FP becoming "super FP"). The mist was down on Jungle Cruise. Forget about Journey into Imagination... A video screen was off, the smell lab didn't work and several other things were wonky. And yes, the Yeti was still in B Mode.

On the other hand, DINOSAUR was running better than it had been in months. The doors and smoke at the beginning were working, and the special effects throughout were working very well.

Was on Jungle Cruise yesterday, the elephant on the left side of the boats forward motion is still missing right after the boa - it was gone about a month ago when inlast rode it, smiley’s partner Ginger had her mouth wide open the entire time, one of the hippos was stationary above water and was dry so it was not operational and one of the spear throwers on the left was broken and leaning over, most likely a blown pneumatic line??

Every time we go, you can count on PoTC and the PM being down at some point...at least for a few minutes. I can't remember who said it, but I agree that all the folks saying that they didn't happen upon a downed ride needs publish when they are going. We all need in on that 100% up and operational action.

Just curious after reading all the recent issues with the rides how much is this due to labor negotiations ?

I am glad to see that this post hasn't been taken over by the people who want everything to be working 100% all the time, but complain when an attraction is down for repair/refurb. Fully functional attractions will always require periods of downtime for maintenance, especially in the case of attractions that are decades old.

I've been able to see Pirates twice in the last 8 years. Maybe my bad luck but it's usually closed when I'm at MK. I've also had to evac the queue twice because it broke down. On my last visit it was down for about 20 minutes while I was in the queue. The line started moving again right after guests starting bailing.

I have been going once a year for the past 15 years (I know that is not much compared to some) and we have only been unable to ride one trip when it was down for extended maintenance. Other than that, we have ridden it every time we have been in Magic Kingdom and have never been evacuated from any attraction.

Maybe I'm just lucky?

EDIT: To clarify, I have obviously encountered temporarily outages (mainly Test Track). Just not Pirates.

I have been going once a year for the past 15 years (I know that is not much compared to some) and we have only been unable to ride one trip when it was down for extended maintenance. Other than that, we have ridden it every time we have been in Magic Kingdom and have never been evacuated from any attraction.

I was there while all this was taking place and never even saw pirates closed and we rode four times in a week? So I’m right there with you
