Possible TR2N tie in? Ride?

As many of you know Disney screened what seemed to be a tease of a teaser of the next TRON film at ComicCon http://tron-2-trailer.blogspot.com/2008/07/tron-2-bootleg-trailer.html.
Now looking at this trailer we can see that light cycle races are no longer on a single plane but on different levels with dips and drops and spirally turns. Do you believe that there is a possibility that Disney may try to use the motorcycle roller coaster (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZT8PoPlM_E) To create a lightcycle, Tron ride? That would be awesome imo.http://tron-2-trailer.blogspot.com/2008/07/tron-2-bootleg-trailer.html

If they were to build it, I'd much prefer them building in at DHS. It could be like Disney's answer to Spiderman at Universal. I don't think a rollercoaster could work, but maybe somthing like a simulator ride. Eh, I don't know. We'll see I guess.

I think that if it were a roller coaster like the Hollywood Dream Coaster at Universal Studios Japan where the train would light up with LED lights on the side so like a racer set up so you had a Yellow and Blue Track, and once the train passed by in all of its yellow and blue LED glory the respective tracks would also stay lit up yellow and blue until it is time for the next race. You could have a few really close calls and each one could 'crash' in the end.

It would be fun.

Rather than have Rocket Rods 2.0 at DL's Tomorrowland they could have the cycles in place. Maybe have a Tron simulator at Disneyquest.

Got to say that roller coaster is wild. I was trying to figure the safety feature on that, since I didn't see lap belts. It did look like in the end they slid the seat back so maybe it locks forward? Definitely an interesting concept. I think if they did something like that it would need to be an indoor coaster for the dark & neon color feel.

I think they could mod the Indy Speedway pretty easily to make this ride fit into tommorowland and be really really awesome!

I love the idea for a simulator or indoor coaster based on the TRON bikes. What a perfect opportunity to make a unique ride! However, Disney would probably rather make a Wall-E ride or some other non-Incredibles Pixar thing.

Hopefully this link will work. It's a report on a theme park in the UK called Flamingo Land. They've got some pretty good photos in there of the motorbike coaster called Velocity. Some of the pics should give you a better idea of how the restraints work. I've been on this ride quite a few times as the park is only about 30 mins drive from where I live. It's brilliant, so something similar in a Disney park with the magic touch of the Imagineers would be awesome. :D http://www.towerstimesforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=18697&sid=881e4a96d162e349293a8f7383de9ed0

Thanks. With Pixar Studios in DHS and a possible Carsland in California Adventure plus the tons of Pixar attractions everywhere else there isn't much originality going on. I love the parks and go to them to see something I can't find at home. By the way, your name says Future Cast Member. Are you going to work there?

I am very very very excited for this movie and would love to see an attraction but come on you guys. Could we think a little more outside the box? Every time a new movie comes out everybody wants a roller coaster for it and this other big rumor that's been floating around about a Monsters Inc. door coaster, which is very unoriginal.

Thank you! I've been wanting to say somthing like that for a long time now. It seems like everyone's idea for anything new is simply a rollercoaster.

EDIT: I also forgot to mention the Snow White coaster for Fantasyland rumor. I just don't get that one at all.

FINALLY someone agrees on me with this.

Side note to toss into the discussion:

The Motorbike coasters that have been mentioned in this thread are manufactured by Vekoma, the coaster company that Disney works with. They're the company that built the track (and I presume the trains) for Everest, RnRC and Space Mountain Paris, and they were the fabrication company for Disneyland's Space Mountain replacement track.

Back in 2002 me and one of my friends (who is also a past WDI ImagiNations winner) began to develop an attraction based on Tron in our free time. We have concept boards, track layout, storyline, elevator pitch and even storyboards done for it. Yes, we went with a coaster, the same coaster that was mentioned in a prior post. Do I think a coaster is cop out? Not really, if the movie lends itself to the property then why rethink it. We all want new attractions but they all can't be 60 million dollar ventures. When you watch TRON what is the one thing you want to do after seeing the film....race a light cycle. I really want Disney to at least consider a motor bike coaster....maybe not for TRON but I can also see using this technology to create a Star Wars attraction....Imperial Speed Bike through the planet of ENDOR anyone??? Not every attraction needs to be high tech....think of the HM with all it's old school tricks. What about Peter Pan's flight....nothing more than a dark ride... sometimes simple is better not to mention cheaper which means getting the green light sooner.

Thanks, that did give me a better idea. Those were some wild rides there!

WildLodge Fan, I'm glad you found the link of interest. I've just had one thought though, the minimum height restriction on the bike coaster is just over 51". They would need to do a revision of the restraints to safely accommodate younger riders (bearing in mind the restriction on rides such as EE and RnRC is 48"). Would Disney be keen to consider a concept that would be enjoyed by fewer people because of the height requirements? I'm sure there would be some way round it, but half the fun of the motorbike coaster is down to the nature of the restraints.

How about this. You would sit inside an enclosed module similar to Mission Space. The ride would be housed in a large warehouse and the tracks would be atop a magnetic platform with special sensors in it. A video screen in front of you would show you the entire field with certain obstacle (ex. walls and drop offs) and thanks to the sensors would show you the other cycles, each one would contain a sensor that interacts with the sensors on the playfield and would appear on your screen as that certain color as well as record the path. You would control the Light Cycles as you zoom around the area without ramming into another vehicle and would easily have three lives. The entire ride would last 15-20 minutes depending on how many players are left and any other vehicle could join at any time.

That takes the cake Jasonflz. Something like that sounds great. Might not even be much more costly than a coaster. A neat synthesis of real and virtual - "augmented reality." An arcade style bumper car of sorts. I really like this idea.

Thanks. You're right as to how it would be cheaper considering that there is no need for theming when you don't see outside of the vehicles. It would be an video game/bumper car hybrid.
