The snake is great. It's ridiculously oversized but, according to Tony Baxter, it's to replicate the effect of a close up shot in a movie.

That's a great story. Lucas didn't want to put in a 50 foot snake, since he didn't think Indy "violated the rules of reality", and his compromise was that they had to put a ridiculous number of smaller snakes in the same room- so they ordered a ton of those rubber snakes and painted them blacklight and neon colors and put them in the room.

And changed with a new scenes, characters, and storyline to support the new movie.

*hides*

I'd be totally happy if they smoothed out those rough edges of the ride, of which there are many. For as great as Indy is, I still think it is a weird mishmash of different styles/tones -- some ultra-realistic, some totally fake and cartoony, and some just totally dead space that could use some filling in.

Indy is a classic example of how projection effects aren't always better than practical.

It used to be so cool seeing which door you'd get to go through- and made the illusion of having three different chambers much more convincing. With a tacky projection, it just isn't the same.

They should have both FX. I like the projection a lot, but I equally enjoyed having the turntable of doors to make it seem like there were different paths. ("A different ride every time!" as they used to say...ha!)

The ice machine was obviously the most charming part of the ride. I mean, really? Ice chunks falling from the ceiling? That's ridiculously chintzy. What were they thinking? Bring it back.

My main beef with Indy is that it doesn't come together as an Indy attraction. It has elements of Indy-ness, but just feels like they slapped on the Indy theme to a basically generic adventure ride. Take out the character of Indy, who sounds nothing like him and the arrangement of JW music and the experience could just be called Journey Into the Temple of the Forbidden Eye.

Also, the slapped-together portion between the skull room and boulder is just lazy.

Yes... exactly!!! The queue, ride system, skull room, and boulder scene are all perfect.... Everything else in between just never felt Indy to me.

Definitely get rid of the rat projection scene and put something else in. I'm guessing the only reason it's possibly still there is just because there's never been any budget to come up with something else. Also the bug scene has never really popped (probably because Universal has done the exact same scene better in multiple Mummy rides) and I've never really got what's supposed to be going on during the spear-throwing scene.

I'm literally riding Tokyo's Indy tomorrow for the first time ever so trying not to spoil myself on that version's differences.

I don't much mind the snake. It does read to me as one of the weaker elements of a very strong ride. It seems like a stone sculpture as you approach from the tail, and then the enormous head and hood, still looking like an artifact instead of something alive, sort of bobs at you without any sort of menace. I get baxter's intent, but it doesn't really work.

Terrifies my kids. I’d say it works.

Indiana Jones and the Forbidden Fossil?

Exclusive sneak peak at the reworked Indiana Jones is a Fossil.

Chapek: "What a fitting end to your life's pursuits. You're about to become a permanent addition to this archaeological find. Who knows? In a thousand years, even you may be worth something."

Indiana: "Ha ha ha ha."

[under his breath]

Indiana: "Son of a ..."

I prefer the chamber in Disneyland's to Disneysea. Disneysea's has a great queue and some more impressive scenes but overall the attraction is cast in cool tones and blacklight. Disneyland's just needs to repair some effects and replace the two weakest scenes at the end of the ride.

It still looks stupid. Especially its cartoon eyes.

If I had a say in it they would replace it with another large "stone" cobra statue with multiple animated plausibly-sized cobra animatronics on/in/around it. As your vehicle approaches, the statue would tip forward slightly so that it appears to overhang the track and the snakes resting in it would simultaneously rise up and menace the riders.

Yes
I wouldn't mind if they painted in textures on the track, to make it look like actual gravel or rock (if this would be possible to do)

They did paint planks on the bridge section during the last lengthy refurb. I think the problem with adding textures to the track is that eventually they would just get worn out from the emv tires.

I would love to see the tunnel of torment scene get its floor fog back. Your jeep is supposed to be flying through the air but it doesn’t really work visually.

True! If they painted the entire track section though I think it'd be awesome!

Also great idea!

Better idea is to make the snake look like stone and as you pass it, it texture maps into a real snake that strikes.

HOW ON EARTH COULD IT BE 25 YEARS OLD ALREADY???
It is, it shows it and it should be in a museum!

Seriously, it does need a little buffing up.
Seeing it the first time 20 years ago was exciting, now, not so much.
Spoiler alert: the dopey guy in the loud Hawaiian shirt is a shill!

If and when they do upgrade, please, please! PLEASE!!!! No Crystal Skull anything! Not even a nuked 'fridge!
