BTW, I don't know if this was ever updated in this thread, but Indy goes down for refurb June 11 through 14. Very short, so no ice machine coming back.

That's an amazing effect. Its simplicity is its charm. Is the ride missing anything without it? No. But having it certainly adds to the ride. It's sort of like those deer hidden in the trees on the Jungle Cruise.
But it can also be perceived as something cheap and/or tacky and is quite obviously just standard ice cubes. And there is something far more ominous about only hearing the ruins crumble. Don't you think? This is no Hatbox Ghost as people seem to have come to believe.

Those are some of my favorite kind of practical effects. If it can be done with supplies from Home Depot, I love it. Far more fun than a projection.

But is that Disney quality?

I am not going to disagree with the second comment you made; as everything is better than projections.

No

If the effect itself is effective and reliable, i'd argue it's Disney quality. What isn't Disney quality is re-branding for the sake of advertisement or having 4k tv's and projectors act as the ride.

Couldn't they have just installed a cold spark machine in the ceiling? It was used daily in Backdraft at Universal without problems.

Yes
If they did the falling rocks effect today it would be a projection effect. I actually wouldn't mind if they tried this.

And people do not exaggerate about the speed and movement the snake had at one time. It was far more intimidating.

This, the decline of flame effects in the main room, the lack of the rotating door, no ice machine, the queue effects not working most of the time, and the toned down ride vehicles have me yearning for a refurb that's as long as it needs to be to overhaul and enhance this once amazing ride.

How much has the dialogue in the ride changed? I don't think I've ever heard this line:

I have heard these same lines several times over the last few years i have ridden, but Indy is hard to hear in the Boulder Scene as his voice is much lower in volume now when compared to this video clip.
Here in the video, his voice has far better clarity and you can easily hear him.

Today it seems you have to strain your ears to hear his comments as they are often hard to make out amidst all the other noise going on around you.
