Don't pounce.. this is a question,
Why are so many of you saying that Jasmine and Aladdin should not be in Morocco?
I cant speak for everyone but the most probable location for Aladdin is Turkestan, which is more than 4000 miles away from Morocco. It would be like putting Brother Bear in England or Mary Poppins in America.

I am familiar with Morocco and the Middle East.
I'm also familiar with the book, and the story itself. That's why I was curious.. it seems completely fitting to me that Aladdin and Jasmine would meet in Morocco at Epcot.

The book is set in China.
Aladdin is an impoverished young ne'er-do-well dwelling in "one of the cities of China"

The original story has him from China so it is all kinds of messed up no matter how you look at it. Much like one of the step sisters cutting off her big toe to fit in the slipper in the original Grimm brothers tale that was curiously left out of the Disney versions.;)

The film is based on a story in a book. The character of Aladdin is actually Chinese. The person who sells the lamp is from.. the continent of-Africa. Aladdin and Jasmine travel there.. to Morocco.
Ok, but that has nothing to do with the Disney animated feature. IMHO that setting would be a stretch since most peoples' knowledge of Aladdin at Disney is based on the film. The main setting is the fictional city of Agrabah. Though fictional, this city is not in Africa.

Who says where Agrabah is located? Morocco is not Kenya. The language spoken is Arabic the food ..The mosques.. and so and so on. They are so similar.
The entire book 1001 Nights has stories from the Middle East and Morocco. That's why 99.999% of the time any restaurant named "Arabian Nights" will actually be serving Moroccan food.

I just wanted to make that distinction, and was curious to why people thought it was such a stretch.

That's fair. Let's agree to disagree. I hear your argument, but I don't see it as a fit. To be honest, I don't think many IP's are a fit for Epcot. I could see the Rat in France but, that is about it. Why stretch the IP pushing into a country where the connection is tenuous at best?

I am still curious why you wanted me to reread The Arabian Nights? Did I get something wrong?
You might want to read it again. The whole thing is actually wonderfully fascinating.

Because you didn't make the Morocco connection.. which is a huge part of the story. The entire story is a little nonsensical with the names and the location, Persians and Arabs do have a lot in common too though.. the names and settings are odd together, but the book itself is full of wonderful middle eastern and Moroccan folk tales. I love that part of the world. Morocco is on the continent of Africa, but it's similarities do not lie with it's geographical neighbors. And a movie referencing "Arabian Nights" could very well be set in Morocco.

Again, I was only talking about the book in connection to the movie. Disney's version is not the book version. Any attraction or MnG is going to be based on the Disney property - the movie. We are cool and we like the book, but that doesn't matter. To me, it is a harder fit to Morocco than Frozen is to Norway.

That's the book. We are talking about an attraction based on the movies, not the book. We don't have the Grimm brothers version of the fairy book attractions either.

@21stamps I really value your contributions as a member of this site. I don't want to be difficult. I just think we see this one differently. I feel we probably agree on more things than we disagree.
Be safe and enjoy the parks! :)

I feel the same way. Frozestrom was a stretch at best but I really don't want to go down that road again and rehash that argument. I think Rat is OK for France since it's actually set in Paris (for sure, not just a fictional somewhere that could maybe be in France) and the movie is named after a French food and has reference to French culture. I also think Mulan could work for China. Aladdin would be a stretch IMHO if the ride was a book report style ride re-telling the movie plot. If they went 3 Caballeros style and had Aladdin and Jasmine take us on a tour of all things Moroccan that might work a little better for me. I just prefer if they are going to add an IP to WS that it's used to highlight the culture and people of the country.

Right. And the movie does not say if it is in the Middle East or in Morocco. It just uses Arabic names.. which could be in either, right?. But it's based on a story where Aladdin and Jasmine do travel to Morocco. So in my opinion, that assumption would be the more logical one.

I just thought the subject was interesting and again, curious to hear the thought process behind the Middle East only reasoning.

I think at this point, that is the best we can hope for. Chappie will cram the IPs down our throat. I just hope they don't forget that WS is about the countries, not the IPs. If the IP can help tell the countries story, I will be more inclined to accept it. If not it will seem forced.
