We are going to be booking reservations for our honeymoon shortly. I think we are pretty sold on POR. But we really want to stay in the plantation side of the resort. The bayou side is nice as well - but the plantation side just seems more honeymoonish.

If we go with the "standard room" are we going to have a chance to get into that section? Our reservation will be from Dec 17-28.

When you make your reservation, you can call and talk to someone in reservations at DisneyWorld and request the plantation side. There are no guarentees, but you can request it. I've stayed there twice and had the plantation side both times. Very nice.

I've stayed both sides and prefer the bayou section. There's something about the buildings being smaller, pools are more private and with all the trees it seems more secluded so may be more romantic for you. I also like the decor better.

If you book a standard room your chances are better because there are many more of them than the water view. I would book a standard room and ask to have a couple preferences put on the reservation. Ask to have "Magnolia Bend" which are the Mansion buildings and "Garden View" which will have you looking at a lanscaped area and not the parking lot. I have been making this request for about 11 years and I would say I end up right where I want to be. In face I was in the same room 2 years in a row. But remember, its not guarenteed.

My family and I have stayed at POR every year for the past 15 and have stayed in every section. We personally prefer Magnolia Bend because it's the most centrally located, it has the prettiest landscape, it is right over the bridge that connects to Old Man Island, and their pool is very nice and quiet. I imagine it really would be great for a Honeymoon!

Thank you for all the great responses! I first knew it as Dixie Landings as well. But at some point I got a bad idea about the resort in my head and never gave it much thought as a place to stay. Then I read on Allears that it was one of the more popular moderate resorts for honeymooners. So I started looking for videos to get an idea of what it looked like. WOW! I had no idea how gorgeous it was over there....I saw this video and I was completely sold to spend the extra cash for a moderate over Pop Century.

In general, you've got a 50/50 shot at the Magnolia Bend mansions, because half of the resorts rooms are Mansions, and half are Aligator Bayou homes.

As others said, if you have a specific preference, best to have that noted on your reservation by someone at CRO. And double-check when you check in about your assigned location, and see if they can re-assign your room if it's not where you'd prefer.

You need to call the resort (407-934-6000) about 10 days before your arrival to make your request. We went in November and were given that # by a WDW operator. We requested a Magnolia Bend room on an upper level and got exactly that. (We stayed in a king room.) Enjoy! It was a lovely and peaceful resort.

I don't know how much "Honeymooning" you're planning on doing on your honeymoon, wink wink nudge nudge and all that, so take this with a grain of salt.

Yes, the rooms in the Magnolia Bend "mansions" seem prettier, and the Alligator Bayou rooms seem more rustic. But bear in mind, the Magnolia Bend buildings are bigger, which means the potential for more people walking past or around your room, to say nothing of sounds above you if you're on a lower floor. Whereas the Alligator Bayou buildings are smaller, so you have better odds of getting some place a little more secluded, with less "foot traffic" traipsing around.

Personally, I'd shoot for building #24 in the AB section, and request to be as far back as possible. True, you're about as far away from the main building as you can get, but it would be more secluded. I believe that's the building where we stayed on a leg of our honeymoon. Also very close to one of the quiet pools, which came in quite handy considering we went during Spring Break and there was never a spot to be found in the main pool or around it.

Either way, you should at least have it noted on your reservation that you're on your honeymoon and would like as secluded a room as is available.

Also, while you say you've booked a "standard" room, you should see about getting a room with a king-sized bed in it. Something to think about...
