Hey everyone! My name's Josh, long time Disney fanatic, new to the board! I was a MK Merchandise CP in Spring 2001, and full time MK Attractions (FastPass Department and Jungle Cruise Skipper) from Summer 2001-Oct 2002, now I am a CT.

I love the board and look forward to joning in on all the conversations around here! :D I have tons of stories and useless info about the parks and resort all around so I look forward to sharing with you guys!

However today I am lookign for info from you guys! My mother's birthday is Next weekend and my father and I are taking here to WDW for a long weekend! I just booked last night at Port Orleans Riverside. I have never stayed there before and come to think of it cannot remember ever visiting when I was living down there. So I would like to hear your thoughts and opinions on the resort. I have read both good a bad reviews on the size of the room and the huge size of the resort.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a building or area to request? My mother has a hard time with stairs and would prefer somthing with quick and easy access to the parking. Any advice would be much appriciated! Thanks so much

Have a magical day!

the rooms arent a bad size at all the resort is big but its pretty easy to cut through the pool area to get anywhere, it was kinda dirty last time i was there, the a/c ducts were filled with mildew but it was recently renovated so im sure its much better now. i thought it was a little crowded on the busses however. when the par lets out you often have to stand on the bus, where at coronado we never stood. its all depending on when you go though. best breakfast ever at the sit down resteraunt inside though! thry the banana stuffed french toast and prepare for taste explosion! have fun !

Hey Josh!! Welcome to the Boards!!! Aaaaaaahhhhhh PO Riverside my sweet Southern Home!!! I love it there, it is so peaceful and laid back. From what you said as Mom isnt into stairs, I would either request a ground floor room or if that isnt possible go for the Mansions. They have elevators, the bayou houses dont. The furniture style is a touch different from the Bayou to the Mansions, the shower curtain is of a different design (Print on the curtain) but otherwise they are indentical in size and setup. My Mom particularly liked when I had gotten a Waterview room in Parterre Place ( Mansions) It was a relatively short walk to the main building and even shorter to the pool!!
Also while you are there you have to try the restaurant, Boatwright's for breakfast!!! Great food, awesome portions, great and friendly service, and for about a $1.00 more per person than you would spend in the food court!! Have an amazing time!! Belle

the bayou will get the busses in the resort first and first to be dropped off, in the mansions they will be the last dropped off so theres a little trade off if you dont want to wait on the bus while they drive around the resort.

I'm assuming that the Mansions are in the Magnolia Bend Buildings.

The PO French Quarters are closed for reno's and that should mean that the buses should not be crowded at all and won't be making any extra stops.

We will be at PORS Alligator Bayou in three weeks so let us know how you found the rooms to be.

have fun.

Ah good old Dixie Landings, my 1st love. The very best mod resort. Ask for a room with not much walking a check in, they tend to be very acomodating when they see you have a real reason not walk far. The resort can be spred out some.

I have found if you can check in early, you have the best opprotunies for good rooms.

The busses do tend to be a bit crowded, but run well.

Welcome to Magic!

I have never had the pleasure of staying at Port Orleans but stayed at Dixie Landings when it was "Dixie Landings". I thought it was beautiful.

Ok, be easy on me here because I don't know and I am sure everyone else does... why did Dixie Landings merge with Port Orleans?

You know, after staying at Old Key West, Carribean Beach and Wilderness Lodge, I'd have to say my stay at Dixie Landings was the best. I love that resort! It is so quiet, there is so much room, and there is nothing better than getting up early and walking the Sassagoula at dawn with the mist in the air and the dew on the ground....god I love it!! So of course, I reccomend this resort, but for your mother, I reccomend a plantation room, because these have elevator access, as opposed to the bayou buildings (which are equally as fun!). The rooms are identical inside (save the headboard...?). Have a great time at this great resort!:sohappy:

I love Port Orleans great value! It has two areas, Alligator Bayou and Magnolia Manor. I stayed in Magnolia, both areas are equal. I just enjoyed the environment. There is a boat that takes you to Downtown Disney, which is great, just dark at night, take advantage of it though during the day.
I love the sweet potato pancakes at Boatwright's, soooooooooooooooooooooooo good.

Someone asked why Port Orleans and Dixie Landings merged...

The reason I heard was that the company felt the word 'dixie' had racial undertones which Disney wanted to avoid. As I am not an African American and I am not from the southern states, I don't know whether this is true....

We are booking in for a Standard Room in the Alligator Bayou for 5. Here's a couple of questions:

1) Looking a little closer at the map, it seems that Alligator Bayou Buildings 14 through 18 are closest to the Main Dining Building. Would these therefore be the best Buildings to ask for a room?? The other buildings seem pretty far away.

2) We are booked for a Standard Room (as opposed to a Water view Room), so does that eliminate certain Buildings? We also have a rental car for whatever that is worth to the Building choice.

3) Would you recommend a ground level or 2nd floor room in the Alligator Bayou?

4) I see that each Building Cluster has it's own pool. Is one pool better than the other?? Or do most folks use the big main pool with that Dragon Slide?

I think I am leaning towards a non-smoking 2nd Floor room in Buildings 16 or 18. What do you think?

cheers.

First off the dragon slide is at french quarter you are staying at riverside most of us still call dixie landings. The alligator rooms are very nice ,yes ask for a building close to the main building. The quiet pools are ok but no slide, the main pool with slide is great. We always stay in non smoking on second floor. This is a great resort with the best food court and pool slide for a moderate. If your kids like to fish they have a great fishing spot and will rent poles and supply worms, its a lot of fun.

WHAT?!?! No Dragon Slide?? Oh man, that was one of the selling points to this Resort. That's it - I'm cancelling the vaction!.... not.
But that is a little dissapointing. Is there any kind of slide at the Riverside big pool?? I guess we'l have to wander over to the Blizzard Beach...

With the FQ's being closed for reno's i just though the pool would also be closed. Is the pool actually open??
