Port Orleans - Riverside

I am new to this forum, and am to leave for Disney World in a few weeks - July 10th, to be exact. What I am asking for is any info on Port Orleans - Riverside. Good or... not so good. Any info is helpful.

Also, I have read and heard about refillable mugs. One question I do have about the mugs is if they can also be used in the parks or on the resort grounds only?

This is also my first time staying on the Disney property.

Any other info would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Yes the swims at night were absolutely wonderful we stayed in the Alligator Bayou last Nov. building #35 and the pool was right outside our building it was perfect for those late night swims after a long day of walking we will be going back this Dec. were are going to try the Mansions this time but I highly recommend this resort to anyone it is well worth the moderate rate .
Have a great trip :sohappy: :sohappy:

Riverside is beautiful. The slide is way fun. Themed great. Colonels Cotton Mill (food court--i dont know if thats the current name after the Dixie switch) had great food, as did bOATWRIGHTS.

Hey, Back to the site!

Uh, hey!

For those who remember, I have returned! Hopefully a report will surface in a few days. Should I post in on here or on "Trip Reports?" Now I know by me simply asking that, it will make me out to look foolish, but... whatever :)

Thanks for the tips,
Kyle

We (my father and I) were very pleased with Port Orleans – Riverside. The décor and the attention to detail. The only things that were of minor problem were these. It became a deal of hauling bags from the car to the room. Which becomes a very tiring thing after a 10 hour drive and being in the summer sun. I know they have “bag boys” in the golf cart-type trams, but it would be nice to have another choice as to the loading/unloading (at least the do-it-yourself type). They probably were there, but I didn’t see them.

Another was that the fact that it seemed to be a maze to get anywhere. The building in which we stayed appeared to be located in the very center of the resort, at least from the “us-having-to-walk-everywhere” viewpoint. Yes the atmosphere was nice and beautifully landscaped, but sometimes the pains to get to our destination overshadowed actually getting there.

Other than those minor complaints, everything was wonderful. We really enjoyed the benefits of staying on property. Not having to move our car until we left (and consequently, provided transportation to and from the parks), souvenir mugs with free refills, and complimentary package delivery to the resort – all were very welcome to two who wanted to just get away from all worries and hindrances.

so which part of PO-R did you stay in??? we will be there the first of november....and are leaning toward Alligator Bayou..since it seems to be the easiest to get in and out of...and since we are driving in from Texas...(with a 6 yr old in tow..did i mention that?) the easier the better.

im so glad you had a wonderful trip....and hoping for the same experience for me and my family :)

Wish I'd found this thread earlier!

I personally am NOT a fan of the Mansions - look to much like "average motel meets Tara" to me.

To me, Alligator Bayou offers so much more in overall themeing and seclusion. We really felt like we were in our own private world ...and at a moderate price! Gotta love that!

Heading for the great escape.
The decor can make aligator bayou rooms seem a little dowdy. But it is all part of the theme, from the fake rustic beds to the old pictures on the walls.

Weve managed to stay in the same building on our visits (16) its well located for the food court, car park, bus and quiet pool. The water view rooms may not be worth it as i can recall on two ocassions being only able to see shubbery.

The quiet pool is quite a busy place at park close, the kids loved those late night splooshes.

We would have stayed there again on this visit but CRO were reluctant to let a family of 5 book the room, Id have had to sign a disclaimer about using a roll away for an 11yr old and the cm was sooooo reluctant to let us book in. We did get a good deal on the cabins at Fort Wilderness (that was made better thanx to AP) as a sweetner.
Will miss that boat ride to DTD.

Hey there Miss Cybal!!! And as much as Cymbal and I do have the same opinions on most things, I Am a big fan of the Mansion section. I finally got around to staying in the bayou section this May. The Pool area there was lovely however I found getting around to be way too confusing for me. It is more twisty and turns than the mansions which are laid out in a straighter pathways. I also missed my morning stroll along the Sassagoula to go get breakfast at Boatwright's. Really just a matter of preference I suppose, but how bad could it actually be, I mean you are in Disney right??? Belle

We stayed in the Alligator Bayou section; the theming seemed right on cue. Outside our room was a marsh-like pond - great touch! And I promise you, we heard sounds like there were actual gators in them. Probably recorded, but there nonetheless!

Had a great time!

Hey Belle,

That's what I was talking about, the area seemed too winding to manuever easily. We we constantly getting turned around... especially at night.

Hey Miss Belle! You're right of course - we do agree on just about everything! :) I do love the Bayou though...for me the twisting layout is so much a part of it's charm! For me it's a bit more private.

As for "how bad could it be - you're at Disney?" I used to think that, but then I stayed at ASMu! It was not the most pleasant experience! (This was before I learned to actually speak up about room problems!)
