Port Orleans French Quarter or Riverside?

I enjoyed FQ more than R b/c I felt it was more compact and less noisy. Being the first picked up by the busses and first dropped off at the resort was a big plus to us as well. POFQ is actually my favorite moderate resort.

:) They are both good - for different reasons. POFQ is smaller, so there is less walking back to your room after a long day at the parks. it is also the first stop (usually) for the busses.
POR is more spread out, but the theming is beautiful. It also has a sit-down restaurant (Boatwright's) and entertainment on certain evenings. I personally prefer POR, but you really can't go wrong with either!

I am going to be staying at French Quarter now in September for the first time.

Ive been itching to stay there for about 2 years since I went to POR, and one night i walked over to FQ to see the resort...It was awesome! I loved how out of florida it felt, i really did feel like i was walking down these small brick paths in New Orleans, and the atmosphere was also very interesting given all the fountains and shady trees.

But Riverside is AMAZING as well... They have a very nice scenic area, LOTS of land to get lost on, the lobby is nice and they have a kid friendly pool with slides/etc. If possible request a room in Magnolia Bend with a view of the Fountain areas...those were excellent.

PO is my favorite moderate complex...i personally do not like CS or CB.

I have been going to Disney World for many years now, And I love to stay at 2 resorts even though I have stayed at most of them. the 2 resorts I love to stay at are POP Century and POFQ, And let me explain why, POP because It has it own bus system thats the only reason I will stay there I know it sounds stupid but thats why I like it, And POFQ I love its my # 1 on my fav WDW resorts and I like it because It is nice and small everything is in walking distance, It has a great theam, The bus system stops there before heading to PORS, So you are going to get a seat on the bus. And you can take a boat from DTD to get there.

POFQ is as everyone has said smaller. So there is shorter walk to the food court and the bus stop. Another great thing is that since it is smaller, the lines in the food are almost always shorter.

That said, POR is beautiful. I love the mansion plantation rooms they are very nice. There are also quiet pools at POR closer to the rooms.

Even though PO-R is huge (and I do mean huge) it's a delightful place to take a stroll, a tandem bike ride, horse carriage ride. I also like the theming of the main pool better, and the fact that there are so many "quiet pools" on-site. Riverside also has a full-service restaurant which makes butt-kicking omelettes in the morning. FQ only has a food court and pizza delivery. And their lounge has entertainment most nights, I don't think FQ's lounge does, though I could be mistaken.

Now, granted, you might be a hit-the-parks-from-dawn-to-dusk kinda person, eating most meals in the parks, only using your resort as a place to shower & sleep. But I figure, if you're asking which is better, it's because you intend to take advantage of some of the amenitiesthe resort has to offer. My preference, hands down, is Riverside, but if you really prefer smaller grounds (or are traveling with someone who can't do so much walking and you worry about not getting a room centrally located) FQ is very nice too, plus a short walk/drive to Riverside if you wanted to check it out.

I vote for POFQ. It is much smaller and very quiet from our experience there. It was Christmastime and it just seemed so relaxining there. You can always walk over to POR if you'd like. We went over to POR and took the horse and buggy ride while we were there. That was really nice and we were able to see a lot of the resort that way. The Riverside resort is very pretty too. Unfortunately, our last experience there wasn't a good one so it will take a lot to get me back there. We really enjoyed POFQ though. Everything about it was perfect for us.

POFQ for the intimacy of the resort. The walks to the boat, bus stop, and food court are much shorter. Nothing like a short walk after a long day at the parks.

I alwasy preferred the ambiance of the French Quarter....always made me really relaxed. The pool and layout I think is also better suited for me...but get some photos and maps, and see what you think!

Huh....I remember reading a while back an overflow of Riverside recommendations and now it seems French Quarter is winning out. I'm planning on staying at Port Orleans next June so I'm interested to see which is higher recommended especially for a first timer at this resort.

My vote is for Riverside, Its so well themed and relaxing, plus from the moment you arrive it tells a story. You check in at the Sassagoula Steamboat Company designed to make you feel like you are booking a passage on a antebellum steamboat. When you step outside to get to your room your in the docking area, a large boardwalk complete with cargo ramps that you would use to get on the steamboat. The buildings are so beautifull themed to sprawling mansions and rustic but still suprisingly elegant cottages. The pool feels more adventurous but relaxing and is geared torwards whole families (the pool at POFQ seems to appeal mostly to little kids to me) You have a great old fashioned general store, a good sit down restaurant, a well themed foodcourt with a way cool working cotton mill and an awesome bar area with a live entertainment. Thats why Riverside gets my vote!

Tough call. IMHO, you can't go wrong at either resort. I've stayed at POFQ twice. It's quaint. I love the jazz music that plays. My kids love the pool slide at POFQ.
I've stayed at POR too. I love the smell (magnolia?), the rooms are pretty, the grounds are relaxing and the entertainment at the lounge can't be beat. My kids love the playground. My DH and I like the food court because the kids were occupied by kid sized rocking chairs and coloring pages (also true for POFQ.)
We stayed at POFQ in Jan and are going to POR in 39 days!

I am one of this "GO TO RIVERSIDE!" people, but since 05 riverside has kinda gotten "too popular" so when i was planning this vacation i opted for French Quarter, based entirely on atmosphere from short visit i did while staying at RS.

Ill always love riverside, but gotta try something new every now and then.:king:

These are my favorite hotels on property! Both are beautiful, and so peaceful. We like POFQ just a tad more because of the size, and i love the little streets. It is the first bus stop of the two, which is nice. I've stayed there more than 12-15 times. I've only stayed at POR a couple, but absolutely love it too.
