POR Questions

We are staying at POR with our 6 and 4 year old. I understand it is a large resort. Here are some of my questions.
We would prefer quiet over convenience (closer to pool etc) - what would be the best accomodation (building etc.?) What is the difference in accomodations and how large is this resort exactly?
Where is the really good pool - at POR or at French Quarter?
I have heard buses are a problem at POR - is it feasable to walk to french quarter to get the bus?
We intend to spend at least a day or two hanging out at the resort - what are some things people can recommend we do with two small kids? (besides the swimming pools?)

Tell you the truth, both resorts would fit your needs adequately, but if you want my opinion...

I think that that POR would be more tranquil because the buildings are far from each other and the pool is very far (as far as hustle and bustle goes) from the rooms. The foliage creates a peaceful environment.

Both resorts have great pools and I don't remember having a problem with WDW transportion.

The most important reason to choose between these resorts is your preference in theming - do you like the southern hospitality/wilderness feel or do you like the Cajun/Creole/New Orleans thing. Both resorts are two of my favorites.

I think your best bet is going to be POR in the Alligator Bayou section. The buildings are relatively spread out, and you can get a room far away from the main facilities of the resort. I'd recommend building 26, 25, or 39, in that order.

The nice thing about POR is that the main pool is on an island in the middle of the resort, so it's separated from the rooms, but still fairly close to most of the buildings. There are also smaller, satellite pools throughout the resort, in case you want to go for a quick dip. Another perk about staying at the Port Orleans resorts is that you can use the pool at either POR or POFQ. The best of both worlds!

As far as recreation, there are watercraft rentals (kayak, canopy boat, pontoon boat or Sea Raycer), bicycle rentals, playgrounds, arcades, horse-drawn carriage rides, and fishing on Old Man Island.

Enjoy your visit!

I was there only 3 weeks ago. i agree, try and get Alligator Bayou if you want a quirt place. we were in number 25 and it was so nice an peaceful. the only down side was it was a bit of a walk to the main building. but saying that it was a nice walk when you had time. There is a quirt pool right outside the rooms. it always quirt and is so nice for a relax.

the best main pool for the little ones is the french quater one. although the riverside one isnt bad.

If you get number 25 the nearest bus stop is north depot. its right in the middle so you dont have to wait to long going or coming back. the last stop is normally the main riverside bus stop. so if you dont wanta wait do that.

there are loads of things to do at the resort beside the pool. i BIG arcade, bike rentals, fishing, boating. there is enough to fill a coulpe of relaxing days.

Some other info is:
i like the choice of food. very good and yumy. the shop there is also full of good thing, and snacks.
We didnt try the main dinning place. but if you wanted to i would book.
i think thats everything. but if you need anything else just ask.

Also for some other info.

We also have 2 children..both girls 2 1/2 and 5 1/2 years old , both have stayed here since before they could walk..and loved it... there really is alot to do at POR , rental boats , rental bikes....fishing, there is also a playgound near the main pool ( which is close to muddy rivers which is an outdoor lounge area), also the main pool has a small water slide..there is also on certain evenings in the indoor lounge ,piano man bob..who is great and it is a very child friendly time....there is an arcade as well, a general store and they also do hair braiding outside as well...and the resort is only about 10-15 min from downtown marketplace...which is a great boatride.....boatwrights is a great place to eat , which is at POR its a nice sit down restaurant.. yummy banana stuffed french toast...as far as buildings.. we prefer 16 , 18, 14 is nice to..close to food, pool and bus stop..in the bayou section..over all it is a really nice resort to stay at...to me , its a deluxe at a moderate price..but then again, this place is the only one that we have stayed at for the past 10 years......yes its home to us....

yes its will always be DIXIE LANDINGS to us!!!!
107 days to go!!!!

How about doing a search for Port Orleans Riverside, Port Orleans French Quearter, POR, POFQ, and POR vs POFQ and you will find thousands of responses to this exact question.

Our countdown is at 11 days until we get to POR. :sohappy: We requested a garden view in Magnolia Bend away from the pool areas in hopes it will be a little quieter. We have 3 kids with us, 8, 6,and 5. Sounds like there is plenty to do. We (the guys) have booked a fishing trip out of the marina one morning. We were there for one night about 4 years ago, but didn't get to see much of the resort. It was very pretty though from what I seen. Sounds like there is a lot for kids to do.

Can't wait to see the Mouse!
