Hey all! 177 days away from what was already an amazing vacation, now we found out, my entire family (mom, dad, 2 brothers and sister) are coming along also!!!!

They will be staying at ASMO and we will be staying for the first time at POR with my DS4 and DW.

Will my family be able to come on over and enjoy ole man island on occassion with us since we are resort guests? Or can they not since they are staying at AS ?

And if you swim with friends who are staying there, it shouldn't even be considered pool hopping. I don't know whether it's technically allowed, but it should be.

Here We Go.

I could be wrong here but iam sure I've read on these blogs that pool hopping is taboo unless you're staying at PORS you can use POFQ as this is the same resort hotel so to speak.I would double check on this and if iam wrong, accept my apologies.

As far as I know unless something has changed from last July, there are certain pools you can not pool hop to. Everything else is fair game.

I got curious enough about this to call POR. They said only people staying at POR can use the pool - you can't bring in guests from outside or from another resort. So it would be illegal/unethical/immoral pool hopping, even though there's no enforcement mechanism except at a few of the deluxe resorts.

Wait.....so I am lucky enough to be able to afford (after lots of savings) POR, but parents unfortunatley can only afford allstar movies, yet....I can't, as a paying guest at POR bring 3 people to swim with me?

That bites

Yeh,I agree, but like I said this was a topic recently and the moderator put a lock on this.Your parents can come and visit you and I would guess have a drink but pool hopping is a big no no.Why,I don't know but it is a Disney rule.

I would understand if we were all staying at allstar, and drove to a resort we werent staying at and swam in their pool. And I'd understand if I was staying at POR and brought some of my friends who live in Orlando to the pool to swim....but these are my parents, who will be staying on disney property and I am a POR resort guest. I don't see why it'd be an issue....but if it is, its mickeys call, and I will abide!

NO!! There are no WDW pools (with the exception of DVC members) where you can pool hop without breaking the official rules. Just because they enforce it at the Y&B Club and the Poly does not mean that its fair game everywhere else.

I look at this differently than pool hopping. You are inviting guests to join you at the pool. Whether or not its officially allowed, I don't know - but nobody will give you a hard time about it. I'd say go for it and don't worry.

Edit: Well... if Port Orleans says no, it would be wrong (but nobody will question you).

Am I a hypocrite for writing the two above responses? Maybe - but I see pool hopping and inviting family members to swim with you (especially at a less popular WDW resort) as different situations.

Although it may be officially not allowed, we have stayed at POR several times and have never been asked for resort ID at the pool. That being said, I wouldn't worry too much about it, since I've only seen it enforced at Beach Club, when we were staying there. I have never pool hopped but I've seen it done at the moderates.

Wait...so I am lucky enough to be able to afford (after lots of savings) to stay at a moderate or deluxe resort, yet I have to save pool space with people from Value resorts who feel they are entitled to pool hop if they feel like it?

Life is a kick in the nards

Two sides to every argument.

You can do whatever you want I suppose, and let the chips fall where they may. Chances are, nothing will come of your family's blatant disregard of Disney policy and common decency. All I can say is that I've never pool hopped where I wasn't supposed to, and that's why I'm going to Heaven.

Two Sides To This One.

I can see where Slappy Magoo is coming from.We used to vacate in a lovely beach front hotel in the island of Crete, the swimming pool was right on the beach front surrounded by sun beds [loungers] this day we went down to the pool area and couldn't find a spare lounger, there was a party of about eight Germans all sunbathing,I knew that our hotel didn't have any Europeans staying here so I complained at the reception, the German party were asked to leave, they were staying at a hotel which didn't have a swimming pool, talk about brass neck, anyway, iam sure Mr Magoo was stating his point tongue in cheek.:ROFLOL::wave:

Ah the dreaded Germans, I'm surprised they left lol my experience ESP in Spain, they normally race you to get the bed first lol
I've never experienced this at Disney though, maybe I've just been lucky but there have always been plenty beds available, if not at the main pool then always at the smaller pool!!
Personally I don't see what the problem would be for someone to invite a few people to their own pool for the day as long as they never took advantage of it every day. That kinda defeats the purpose of Disney tho as there is so much to do other than sit at the pool every day

During one Spring Break trip (coincidentally, at POR) any day my then-GF and I went to the main pool, there were no chairs of any stripe available, no uprights, no loungers. No place to hang your towel, leave a book, your sandals, nothing. We would go to the quiet pool. Lord knows I wasn't going to be That Guy, the guy that tries to suss out Who Belongs And Who Does Not. That wouldn't have been my idea of a fun way to spend a vacation afternoon, lurking in the shrubbery, trying to nap pool perps.

But if I had any way of knowing that certain people were not POR guests, betcher ______ I'd tell someone. Even if I were not to then use that chair, we weren't the only guests looking for a place to sit, know what I mean? I'm supposed to settle for less than what I paid for because someone else is trying to get more than what they paid for at my expense? Horse crap.

Granted, that probably doesn't happen all that often. As I said, it was Spring Break. And thankfully we didn't have little kids with us back then who would've been heartbroken to not do water slides or the other fun activities at Old Man Island. Our room was conveniently close to a quiet pool, which was also conveniently close to some laundry facilities, so we were able to cool off and get some clothes cleaned at the same time. We're real lemonade out of lemons people, that's what we are...

But seriously, had I a way to know who was a paying guest at POR and who wasn't, I would've totally narced and not felt bad about it for a nanosecond.

And yes, I was joking before.

I'm not going to Heaven. It doesn't exist.
