From The Disney Blog:

For players and families of Pop Warner football, a new 10 year deal with Disney to host the Super Bowl and other games at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex is a great deal. It means potential national exposure, plus access to all the fun that ESPN WWOS and Disney World provides. For Disney vacationers, it means another 10 years of loud groups and noisy nights at the value resorts. Having to share your resort with Pop Warner football players and Cheerleaders is one of the big complaints I read on discussion boards. On the balance though, I think this is a good deal.

Under the contract extension, which runs through 2019, more than 40 hours of live game coverage and game action cut-ins will be shown on ESPN3.com. In addition, the Division I Midget national championship game will be aired on ESPN2 and other networks.

The expanded national coverage of the Pop Warner Super Bowl is the result of the ESPN rebranding of the 250-acre Disney sports complex, which included the addition of 40 high-definition video screens (three are jumbo screens), 56 high-definition cameras and a state-of-the-art HD and 3D Production Center with direct links to ESPN facilities in Bristol, Conn., New York and Los Angeles, which, collectively, gives more national exposure for the more than 350 events staged annually at the complex.

“We are thrilled to create more exposure nationally for the youth athletes who work so hard every season to reach the Pop Warner Super Bowl at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex,’’ said Ken Potrock, Senior Vice President of Disney Sports Enterprises and Downtown Disney. “Expanding the opportunities to showcase America’s youth athletes is just one of the many ways we are working with our key partners, such as Pop Warner, to help take youth sports to the next level.’’

The Pop Warner Super Bowl is part of the Pop Warner Little Scholars, Inc. (PWLS), the nation’s largest and oldest youth football, cheer and dance organization. The PWLS is a national non-profit organization that endorses and promotes teamwork, responsibility, leadership and scholastic achievement among young boys and girls ages 5 to 16.

“We’ve had a wonderful relationship with Disney for the past 14 years and we’re looking forward to continuing to work with them to make our event even better,” said Jon Butler, Executive Director, Pop Warner Little Scholars. “With the re-branding and impactful technical upgrades from ESPN, the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex maintains its position as the best venue to host a youth sports event.”

Many NFL players got their starts playing Pop Warner football, including Maurice Jones-Drew (Jacksonville Jaguars), Adrian Peterson (Minnesota Vikings) and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow (Denver Broncos). The NFL Players Association estimates that roughly 70 percent of current NFL players have played Pop Warner football.

This year’s 55th annual Pop Warner Super Bowl (Dec. 3-10), which includes the Pop Warner National Cheer and Dance Championships, will be held at Walt Disney World Resort for the 17th time, extending Disney’s decades-long association with the event. Walt Disney himself attended the 1959 Pop Warner title game when it was held in Anaheim, Calif.

At least they are kind enough to provide the dates for these events well in advance, so we all know when to avoid going to Walt Disney World.

Not surprising at all. As much as we dislike them, Pop Warner is a huge money-maker for Disney, and brings a lot of people into the resort during an otherwise quiet time of year. This news was surely to be expected.

This is what I was going to say. This brings a lot of good publicity and business to the resort in a time of year when they are relatively quiet. People here might not like it, but imagine how excited these kids must be knowing that they are going to get to play in WDW and get a vacation at the same time.

it amazes me that the pop warner kids are frequently complained about (i've been there when they're there as well and have noticed issues) but when the allstar cheerleaders and dancers compete at the same venue for usasf worlds at the end of april every year you never hear about the same kinds of problems. maybe it's because the allstars (who come from all over the world literally) compete over a shorter amount of time and don't have as much down time as the pop warner kids. idk...just my thoughts. as a parent who had the expense of a child competing at the end of april with the allstars i can confirm that these types of weekends are BIG money makers for wdw.

Oh, there have been complaints posted here. Not quite as many as those about Pop Warner week, but still quite a few.

We always go then. Never had a problem. Guess they are busy playing football. Now the cheerleaders, that's a different story.

This is great news!

One year, I got a free hotel stay out of it because the Pop Warner hoodlums were so bad at Pop Centruty. I changed my next year trip by a week so I would miss the tournament. Turns out I got there the last day and the 2 remaining teams were in my building at All Star. Oh joy!

How did that one go? So bad that I had to call the police at midnight and it didn't get settled until after 1am at the hotel. I ended up with a $500 Disney gift card for my "troubles". __________________ in the stair wells, throwing trash up on the roofs, playing football in the hallways while dropping F-bombs, and when roll call was done at 12:30am they could only find about half the kids. Awesome!!

Another 10 years!?!?!!? Great news!!! :hammer:

I have dealt with both groups, the pop warner and the cheerleaders, and they are both problematic. They are very poorly supervised, the language is horrible especially when you have young children with you, and they are just crude. We stayed one time at all star while the pop warner were there and it will be the last time, but their effects are even felt in the parks. If you are at the park as the same time as a group of these kids it is just painful to be there. I actually had to scold a group of kids in front of their chapperon for throwing small stones at people and the chapperon told me to relax. Well to say the least that did not fly to well with me and CM's were notified immediately and they were escorted away, I am not sure what happened after that. I am very disheartened by this news for it is disney showing it is more about the money than the magic.

Why don"t they build another resort just for groups...they can use it year round for Pop Warner, cheerleaders, Brazilian tour groups, and whatever else comes along!! That would save everyone from having to endure the loud, rude, obnoxious, unchapperoned disturbances! Wishful thinking!

A. No one would want to work there.
B. It would be destroyed in no time.
C. Disney cares more about the money than it does their guests experience.

Anyone who has ever spoken to a CM is well aware that these groups are pretty much despised by the majority of guests. The CM's that I've spoken to feel the same way. But nothing is going to stop these groups from coming. They bring too much money to Disney.

Yet another reason why it's great to be a local. I can go anytime that I want. I don't have to stress about things like Pop Warner or Cheerleading/Dance group times other than to stay educated and avoid them like the plague. I would rather be at Disney almost any other time of the year. Heck, I loved our recent visit with no less than 8 different tour groups from Brazil and other places far more than I did when I attended during those nightmare times.

I am so glad to not be the average tourist anymore.
