Pop Century

All right everybody, here's my question. What's the word on Pop Century? How's the pool? How's the food court? How are the rooms? Is it overrun with Brazillian tour groups screaming "Mickeyay, Mickeyay"? We generally stay at POR, so any thoughts on Pop are greatly appreciated!

If you have kids, it is a great place to stay the rooms are a little larger and much nicer than the other values. They fun decor is really special to kids. Of course my 7 year old son prefers AS Sports. Didn't notice any noisy brazilians around. Food court was best of values and transport is only for that resort. some say it takes a little longer to get around, but I didn't notice that.

We stayed there this March and it was just me and my husband. We loved it. It was cheaper and we were not there much anyway. We didn't have any problems with the food court or the buses. It wasn't loud at least the section we were in (90s) and it even though we were the furthest building out in the 90's it still wasn't more than a few minutes walk to the bus or the food court.

We stayed at Pop Oct 2004 and it was fine. Our room was outside the bowling pool and we never heard the noise from the pool. The gift shop was great. We didn't care for its food court. The food offered was different from the other values when we went. The rooms are a little bit larger than the other values. It did seem to take longer to get around. We personally prefer Movies. Pop has great vibrant colors and is visually appealing. I believe we were in 50's and not too far from the lobby.

Its nice and newer than the other values resorts. For the price, you can not beat it!!:dazzle:

I have stayed there twice in the last two years. It is nice for a value resort. Own bus service, standard pools in 3 areas, food court/gift shop open from 6am to midnight each day. We were in the 50's building looking out to the lake - quiet. Rooms are smaller but with 2 adults we managed just fine. Not bad for the price. I would definately stay there again.

Out of the Value's it's my favorite! It has a lake with a nice walking path, great music played at the pools, in the food court and at the bus stops, love the check in area with the decade shadowboxes, and the food court was great! I don't know what everyone is complaining about. You must try the parmesan crusted chicken, the lo mein, and the chicken noodle soup, plus the desserts.....tye dye cheese cake and twinkie tiramasu. :slurp:
The icon's are awesome! Giant Mr. and Mrs. Potato head in the 80's, two twister boards that you can play on in the 70's, huge play doh in the 60's etc.

Here's my pics if you want to take a look around:

Pop Century is a great value. It's the newest of the value resort, so the rooms are still new. It's also a place for all ages to reminisce. I like it better than the other 3 value resorts, just because it's newer. But all 4 are pretty much the same in other categories.

As everyone says it's great. Going back there in August. The food court has a good selection. Didn't think it was loud. Plus it has it's own buses. The only time the buses seemed to be a problem was when the MK was closing.

We have stayed at Pop Century twice in the last year, it is our favorite of the value resorts. The rooms were a good size, now it was only me and my husband and we really didn't spend a lot of time in the room. The food court we liked, and it is a really colourful, fun resort. We were also in the 50's and the 90's sections so a little farther away to walk to the bus stops but still not that bad. And the bus only has that stop , unlike the All star resorts which stop at all 3 resorts. We will definetly stay there again next trip.

Pop Century is our first choice in Disney resorts. Kids loved the theming, pools were fun and warm, loved the music at the 50's pool, Rooms very comfortable and clean, we didn't wait very long for buses (but we had a wheelchair w/us), food court was good and a short walk from our room (50's 3rd.floor front of resort). We had a handicap assible room and a regular room adjoining and we had a lot of room. Handicap room had a VERY large bathroom w/very large shower. POP will be our choice next time around as well.

Boo Yeah!

My tips for Pop.
Food court is great for breakfast if you're there within the first 1/2 hour of it opening, then the place is nuts.
Get up early every day, you won't be sorry.

3rd floor rooms are quieter. 3rd floor rooms facing the lake are quietest.
Though some folks crave being closer to the food court/Everything Pop/busses, the place isn't that big, so I don't think it matters much;unless you're carrying tired kids at the end of the night, then you'll wish your room was closer.

Buy a refillable mug. It's the nicest souvineer of the resort.

When they call POP Century a value resort, they aren't kidding. It really is a huge value compared to everything else.
One night in the Contemporary is at least three at Pop. I see a value in that.
The pools are all very nice, and there are three of them.
Contemp. is still my all time favorite, especially with the photos I've seen of the redecorating of the rooms, but unless I've got a serious boatload of money, I'd rather spend it on Pop over any place else for more days/admission.

The only thing that I can see that beats it for on-site accomodations is DVC, but I can't do that, yet.

IMHO, PC is the best of the Value resorts. We have stayed there 3x's in the last year and booked it for our Sept/Oct trip. The best thing about it is that you don't share buses with other resorts.

i hated my stay at PC. its been one of the worst hotels ive stayed in.

ROOMS:
rooms small.
sheets has some sort of colour on them in assuming it was either blood or paint.
bed too close to door -door use to hit bed frame all the time.

FOOD COURT:
food court always packek and shelves are never restocked.
food in food court was salty and disgusting, lack of variety mainly everything was meat. food was way over priced.
cakes had black spots in them :hurl: .
long lines while waiting for food and when paying for food.

TRANSPORT:
buses where always late - longer than 20 min wait for buses.
not enough buses laid on.

RESORT:
everything is far away from stuff ie 80's and 90's buildings are far from the food court and reception
went in pool once but there was a cocaroach(sp?)/water beetle in it so didnt go in it again.
smell of smoke was always in bathroom
garbage left on floor of room when i left it clean
themeing OTT.

all star sports is by far my most fave disney hotel i just loved everything about it.

My extended family of 13 stayed at PC for our Grand Gathering at Christmas time last year and we all feel it is a wonderful resort. We had 5 children (11,10,9,5,2) and they all loved it. Food was good, good selection, plenty of everything, rooms were adequate, we had five in ours and it was tight with 12 days worth of luggage and souveniers but we managed, bus service was good. The only problem I had was with a person at the front desk who couldnt do his job properly but other than that we had a fantastic stay and will consider staying there again on our trip in 2009-10. I would say for the price your paying, the amount of time you are actually at the resort, and the services that are available there you are getting excellent value for your dollar. Think of it this way, for that extra 50+ bucks a night what are you really getting? Better wallpaper? An extra 10 square feet in your room? You can extend your vacation by an extra couple of days or do some shows or something that you wouldnt be able to afford. They could put me up in a ______ under a tree on World Drive for $100 as long as I am on property and the bus comes and gets me.:p :hammer:

Okay

Generally, the Pop Century was fine. The price, for an on-site stay, was reasonable. The food court was fine, though not stellar. It is after all a food court. The best thing about the resort was its very cental location. We rented a car and found that the time to any of the parks was always under 10 minutes. Two things on the downside. First, the walls are quite thin. Noise from surrounding rooms/hallways is sometimes intrusive. The second is a small item, but at all costs avoid the room service pizza. Both my wife and I live our lives under the assumption that there is no such thing as bad pizza. Pop's pizza challenges us in this regard.

One other thing. Since Pop is one of the newer and cheaper resorts, it has the furthest bus stop at MGM, MK, and Epcot. At AK, its somewhat in the center, and at DTD, it's first.
We just made a huge joke of it, it really isn't a huge deal.

I like Pop very much and have stayed there several times. I prefer the 70's bldgs 'cos you can take the back way to the bus stops. Give it a try.

I stayed ther last year with my wife, 2 year old and mother in law(2 rooms) and loved it.

Unlike some others, I loved the food court, lots of variety and the quality was good. the lines were quick or non existant, and it is in the same "room" as the souvenir shop. Also their pool bar is very relaxing.

Furthest stop at Epcot? Maybe they changed it since I stayed at Pop in 2004, but it wasn't the furthest then--the All-Stars were still further, Pop was just on a different branch of the bus area.

Yes its the farthest bus stop at Epcot its a walk. Not a bad place overall I still prefer the moderates myself. But as general its a Disney resort so its clean then food was decent , the food court was insane though at all times. The themeing was loud but it was sort of cute overall not bad for the money but if you can I would spend the few dollars extra and stay at a moderate.
