Sections of the resort were scheduled to open last year, but a CM told me they are waiting until the whole resort is finished to open it. As far as I know reservations are not being made for that hotel (i work in a travel agency?) but you never know. They should have it open by busy season???:veryconfu

A friend at WDW told me that Pop Century would not be ready to open until spring 2003. He also said that they have had to give tons of re-funds and/or put them up in other hotels. Another resort not taking reservations for Port Orleans Riverside due to repairs on Shades of Green. He told me that only about half of the Pop Century is finished. He said the buildings around the "Bee Hive Hair" and "Bowling" sections is the only area near finished. He told me it looks just like the All Star Resorts just no stars. He said everything from the layout to the parking lot is the same.

When ever it opens I hope to be one of the first to stay there.

By the way Yank you dont say what the makeup of your vacation party is but I really dig my Moderate resorts. I Am staying at the Port Orleans Riverside in late May and I have stayed at every one of the other Moderates at least once before!! I think it is the perfect combination of amenities, price and theming. While I liked the All Stars (Music and Movies both) and the food courts were REALLY good there, I didnt like so many kids running around. For more pics on each and every resort go to WWW.WDWIG.COM. Click on the Great Movie Ride icon to go to the index and then look for the Reost FAQ and photos. Very helpful!!! Good luck!!

Well, they look much like the All-Stars, but the resort is actually much different. The buildings have four floors, and there's a rather nice entrance...looks like there is gonna be a river around the resort (at least at the entrance)...w/ probably palm trees along the entrance road...

From what I have been told, Pop Century will be opening (at least in part) in October of 2002. We're already starting to prepare here in Disney Transport. We're going to need 50 extra busses, and about 120 extra drivers for just this one resort.

As for Port Orleans French Quarter... I have not heard anything yet, however, I'd imagine it be October, if not sooner.

From what I am to understand, all the Shades of Green folks are being put up at the Contemporary at rather discounted rates, compared to the standard Contemporary rate. Not a bad deal, if you ask me. Never heard anything about Port Orleans being involved with that.

As for Pop Century, it's basic design is very similar to the All Stars, in that the areas are decorated with super gigantic icons representing the theme. I drove by it today, and construction is coming along quite well. A bunch of buildings are already complete, and a few just need some final touches. Plus all of the landscaping and whatnot. Lookin Good. :)

Pop is a moderate hotel so it'll be definitely better than the All Stars. I wonder if it'll be so big, as them, too.
If the theming is good this hotel is worth a visit.

Yeah, like Disneyfan said, it's gonna be a Value resort, simmilarly priced with All-Stars.

As for size... Pop Century will be LARGER than all three All-Star's combined. Simply *HUGE*. I believe it's 6400+ rooms, but I could be mistaken on that exact number.

Will there be one huge food court for the whole resort or smaller ones for different sections?

A CM told me last week that there were the same number of rooms as all 3 All Stars combined. Don't know if that is true?

The resort will be broken up just like the all stars. There is the Legendary Section and the Classic Section. Each will have its own hall Classic Hall and Legendary Hall. Each hall has its own check in counter and food court. It also has a gift shop and arcade. So it seems that the resort will be split in half instead of three like the all stars.

Each half has 2,880 rooms. The classic years are the 1900-1940. And the Legendary Years are 1950-1990. Each hall

I know earlier in the year they were at Port Orleans it might be changed now. The people from Shades of Green are paying the same rate as always because of the contract Disney has with the government. The contract says something like the government rents it for a long time for dirt cheap and if Shades of Green can't be occupied Disney must provide an alternate resort. As of January it was Port Orleans but Disney might have changed their minds (which they do a lot). I do know that almost all of WDW's deluxe resorts are only about 1/3 full. So that might be why they moved them. Like you said, no a bad thing at all.

One thing I want to add... I got a HUGE kick out of this...

I was at the Carribean Beach today, in the Cast Services area. A little known fact is that CBR and PC share a Cast Service building, and are connected by a tunnel. (Yes, there are tons of them around property.)

Parked at the CS building, was a pargo from PC... for those of you not familliar with the term, a Pargo is what we call those golf cart vehicles that CM's drive around to take guests to thier room, or to get around...

Anyways... this pargo, was in the style of a '57 Chevy. It had the complete body molding, headlights, tail lights, FINS... lol... mag wheels... AND! It even had FUZZY DICE hanging from it. I wish I had my camera, it was SOOOO great!
