We are staying at Pop Century March,12, 2004. I was wondering if there was a particular section that we should request? Also, has anyone been on the Carriage Ride over at Pioneer Hall? How is this? Is it worth it? Also, we were going to have dinner at the California Grill to watch the fireworks a MK should we request a special table to view the fireworks.
Thanks.

My husband & i stayed in the 80's building which seemed like it was really far away from the classic hall (food court, check in, gift shop, etc...) but the way that the walkways are designed, it wasn't that bad. The 60's building is right behind the classic hall and the 50's building is on one side w/ the 70's building on the other side. If you are traveling w/ small children, you might want to request one of those buildings. If you want to be close to a parking lot, you might want to request either the 50's, 80's or 90's buildings. I can get really specific with room #s if you need them. Good luck & enjoy your trip!

The food court is very similar to the ones at the All Stars. There are different stations that make different kinds of food so you go to whichever station you want. There's also a bakery/dessert station and a small market section where they sell, fruits, cereals, chips, etc. The layout is a little different in terms of seating, etc. because of the gift shop off to the one side, but the concept of the food court area itself is the same as AS.

Ok would you respond after your trip. Let us know how it was at Pop Century? We are debating on the Movies/Pop Century. I have read good and bad, clean, great looks, etc, but also, buildings are closer, walls are thinner, its louder. so please let us know, as we will now be traveling w/6 children. they love movies, but some are anxious to try Pop Century!

I stayed at Pop-Century 1980s section in January. I was there for 12 days. We wanted to stay near the front desk and the closest we got was the 80s section, right near the giant Sony Walkman. I've been staying at the All-Starts every year since 1995 and Pop-Century was a refreshing change. The layout is exactly the same, 1 to 2 buildings for every theme and several pools. (Rooms are the exact same size and shape of the All-Stars) It was only 3 weeks old so everything was very very clean which was nice. As for the foodcourt, it's MUCH better than the All-Star foodcourts. The quality is much better. The selection of food choices are wider which was a pleasant surprise. On my next trip I'll be staying at Pop Century.

I did notice some improvements over the All-Stars and they were both in the Pop Century bathrooms. The bathroom consists of just a toilet and shower (as the sink is outside) and the overhead light is situated right above the shower curtain which gives you light in both the shower and the toilet area which is a simple design change, but is a nice convenience so you're not showering in a shadow. Also, there is a ledge under the mirror above the sink for your toiletries which All-Starts don't have, or at least I don't recall.

One thing I think was a bad design was the package pick-up. Disney did away with dropping off your purchases in your room and went with having you pick them up at the gift shop, fine...I can live with that, however the package pick up at Pop Century is not designed well. There's an overhead sign next to the cashier that says 'Package Pick Up' and there's a manager there that has your name in a book and they have to walk back into a room which is not even in the gift shop, it's down the hall behind the kitchen! At the All-Stars, the back room is right where the cast member is standing so it doesn't take as long.

We were able to take advantage of the Winter Saver Package so it was only $55 a night which was great!

Also, POP Century is closer to all Disney Attractions except Blizzard Beach and Animal Kingodm which makes transit time considerably shorter. And since there's just one hotel (this will change in time)the bus doesn't fill up as quickly. When staying at the All-Stars, the bus could potentially be picking up for Music, Movies, & Sports.

you mentioned showers but not tubs. Are there bathtub/shower combos at Pop Century? always had tubs at the other three all stars and will really need bathtubs in at least two of the three rooms we need.

s25843 is correct. They're tub/showers. Only the handicap rooms have showers only (so the wheelchairs can roll in)

The only handicapped rooms at the All-Stars are rooms with King Beds and come with either a normal tub or a roll-in shower.

Actually, the package pickup for All-Stars is really right behind the kitchen as well.

The sink is outside of the bathroom in the All-Stars, there is no ledge under the mirror.

We stayed at Pop for 5 nights and we loved it. The overall layout of the resort is great, nothing farther than a 5-7 minute walk to Classic Hall (food court, shopping). The theming is great, it was a very fun and energizing atmosphere. The combination of the food court, shopping, and the indoor lounge area is a nice improvement from the All Stars. The staff was friendly and the food was great (for food court food). The bus stops were set up very well with corrals to keep people organized like at the parks. Nice landscaping, a winding path by the lake. The only negative that we found was it did seem like the walls were thinner than any of the other resorts that we have stayed at. There was definately more "background" noise. There are many reviews of the resort online. One that comes to mind is wdwig.com. I couldn't tell you if it's good for kids because we don't have any. We will return to this resort hopefully when the Legendary Years section opens. Hope this helps.:)

I stayed at Pop Century recently. The theming is really cool I got to stay in the 70's section which I dug. The TV sets in the rooms are bigger than the AS, but other than that the layout is VERY Similar. The beds and pillows were amazingly comfortable. The food court seemed to have a huge selection of food, but when I went for breakfast the next morning, I was pretty disappointed. The breakfast potatoes were VERY salty and the pancakes were only OK. The food court also was MOBBED as Pop is the new resort on the block and was operating at 90% capacity when I was there!!!! The bus transport was amazing and coordinated super well. After closing at the Magic Kingdom one night, they literally were bringing in busses three at a time for us!!! Great job by the transportation staff!!! I think you will like it!!!!!!Belle

I forgot a few things. The beds are very comfortable. We never experienced long lines at the food court. I think the longest we waited for a bus was an hour at MK after SpectroMagic and Wishes but we didn't get in line right away. It was not uncommon to see 2 or 3 busses pull up at a time. Overall a good experiance.:)

The bus transportation at Pop Century is very good, the food court could be better. If you have small children, I feel they would like the theming better at Movies, than the Pop Century. It seemed to me this past week that some of the employees at the gift store were not informed well. The lines at the front desk were extremely long.
