Pop Century Refill Mugs - Not a deal :-(

Just came back from a 5 night stay at Pop Century. On the side of the refill mugs in bold black print it says that the mugs are only good for the length of stay that you are at the resort. I have not looked at my Coronado mugs, or my All star mugs, but I do not remember seeing this verbiage in the past.

I'm not sure how they would regulate the mug use, unless there is a color scheme based on time of year. The colors of the pop mugs were blue, red, and orange in both the fat and cup-holder sizes.

Anyone know the setup at the Boardwalk? Do they have a self-serve soda area or do you need to have it filled for you like the Beach & Yacht Club? I will be staying there in a couple of weeks and was wondering what to expect.

I'm sure we will buy the mug either way to add to our collection (oh boy another mug to jam into the already full kitchen cabinets :hammer: )

Gah! I am so sick of "the souvenir mugs aren't a good deal" threads. :brick: Either buy a damn mug or don't buy one. Simple math - $2 per soda, takes 6 "refills" to pay for a mug. If you won't drink 6 sodas on your trip, DON'T BUY IT. And don't bring your mug from 1997 on each trip, ya cheapskate.

Sorry about the rant, I'm very tired this morning. :zipit:

Well....

I think just like YOU have the right to post this opinion on the board, those that would like to share their thoughts on the mugs have the same right. So calm down and take a few deep breaths. No need to get mad over something so trivial :)

I'm just tired of always hearing/reading negative comments about things like the mugs. Instead of posting another thread on it, just look for an existing one (I still stick by my initial observation - do the math, choose accordingly, and be happy with that decision). And....let's be more positive here! For example: I had quite the unnerving experience today while on the phone with CR. Our vacation wasn't booked as a Grand Gathering (12 people) as is was supposed to be, but the person I ended up speaking with (a GG 'specialist') was so unbelieveably helpful I wanted to jump thru the phone and hug him. He completely made my day.

2 days!!!! :sohappy:

FYI - This is annoying too! If someone wants to start a completely new thread on an "old" topic, why do some people make such a federal case out of it?

On the topic of mugs, we bring our old mugs with us any time we're going to stay at the resort where we bought it. I don't consider that being a "cheapskate". I just think it's kinda cool that we can use it forever (according to the deal when we first bought them...and we've never been hassled about it).

They are going to start putting a bar code on the mugs that will activate the soda machines. Once you hit midnight on the the day of check out, your bar code will not allow the machine to pour drinks. Curious to see if they will sell a new bar code for people who already have a mug.

I just purchased a mug at the French Quarter on May 7. It was also $11.99.

And the new FQ mugs also have the policy printed on them now, though they are the exact same mugs they've had for at least the last 2 years now. No policy enforcement going on that I saw.

I highly doubt it would be worth their while to do that. I'm sure it wasn't cheap to incorporate this system at Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon, and it would be even more of a hassle at the resorts, as both the mugs and all beverage containers would need a barcode with a set time to work (everyone gets their drinks at the refill stations, unlike what is the case at the Water Parks, where the cups you throw out are filled by CMs). It would be a huge hassle and the second the scanner broke down, everyone would be screwed and ticked off. I don't see Disney spending the money for those complaints.
