Pop Century Phase 2 to be torn down?

You are, of course, entitled to your viewpoint and I respect that. Your presentation is a bit biased, however. Your "Not Magic" line uses terms like "tired and hot" and "squeezing" into the room. The "Magic" line just lists facts about size and pricing. I concede that it can be cheaper and produce larger accomodations. However, you will also be "tired and hot" returning to that condo and have to drive further (or drive, period). You are also not surrounded by Disney theme and service. That is clearly a trade-off you're willing to make. So be it. I am not and i have a family of 4, also.

You could also argue that driving straight back to your hotel is more enjoyable than standing in a long line after Illuminations waiting for your resort bus, and once getting on the bus having to stand in the aisle and hold on for dear life---and then taking the long way back to the resort adding 20 minutes to your travel time.

Not to mention how awesome those Disney buses are themed!

What are they called?

I actually have yet to find out that minor detail. We are traveling with some long time friends and they have a membership at this particular camp ground and have stayed in the cabins many many times. We are going site unseen based on their recommendation.

Legendary Years

After driving past/through Pop Century for a week, I noticed something..there is ACTIVE construction on site of LEGENDARY YEARS. Work is being done on the east side of the footprint. There also have been trucks moving in and out all week.

If they wanted to rename the exising Pop Century resort, because it won't really be a century now that Phase 2 is not going to happen, they could call it 'Pop Culture'.

That way anything that references 'PC' would still be correct.

'Pop Culture' and 'Pop Century' also have the same number of letters, which could help in some places.

:)

 Absolutely. Buses have a advantages and disadvantages. I don't think I claimed that the buses had great theming and they don't. Some people like not having to drive on their vacation or the money saved on the rental car for a week or more. Again, to each his own.

I understand what you are saying, and indeed, I always stay on-site myself, but I think if you include things like "magic" in a value calculation then the term becomes meaningless. Obviously the perceived value, including intangibles, of all items is high to whoever buys them, otherwise they wouldn't be purchased. But under any use of the word "value" in which some things are a better value than others, off-site rooms are a better value, plain and simple. That doesn't mean that some people don't prefer paying more to stay on-site, of course.

Not really. Your applying a monetary value definition or whether or not you get more sq ft. per dollar. That sort of thing. The word has a broader meaning, but I'm not going to start posting definitions. It's not that important. :animwink:

Does anyone have recent(in the last day or two) pictures of "Legendary Years"?

And also of the signs at the PC entrance, pse.
In the very first post on this thread, it mentioned that the signs are now under tarps and being worked on.
It seems signficant, and strange, that the main signs at a Disney resort are under tarps.

Tks.

I wish they would build a value resort that is not so over the top with the decor. I nice classy looking value resort would be great. Just my 2 cents.

I have some that are a week old, but not of any construction or activity over there. And yes, the signs were behind tarps all last week too. Not sure what they're doing back there.

This is pretty sad, I've been looking forward to someday staying over there =\

Yes, really. Did you read the paragraph you quoted of mine before you replied to it? I know the word has broader meanings. Indeed, you know that I know that, because I said so, right there.

Sorry, I'm not going to agree with you on this, but I'm not hijacking this thread any further. Feel free to PM me, if you feel the need to discuss further.

I love pop century, but lets be honest, it was a disaster since conseption, orginally set to open in 01, then 02, then 03, and only half at that......

No, But i love the ability to bypass the 90 minute (or longer) waite for the Monorail, or the 90 minute (or longer) waite to be hearded onto the boat to get back to the tram to get back to my car after spending the day at the MK. We rarely wait for a bus back to POP. (most we ever waited after wishes was 20 minutes , less if you just hang back in the park a bit) And If you can find a Hotel with the Amenities of POP, (huge food court, mini convienience stoer, multiple pools, multiple laundry facilites, and not to mention usually impecably clean) which we are paying $65 / night in August, I really don't think it would be worth staying at. I Also think many of those who fly find it wayyyy more convienient then rententing a car, or waiting an often lenghty wait at an off site hotel for that service. And those off site shuttles require an addition bus ride from the TTA to your final destination. We have stayed off site a few times....never ever ever again. Dirty, rude, old, poorly scheduled shuttle, filthy and faling apart pools. scarse laundry, just all together a vacation spoiler.

To you. Many people feel that staying off-property detracts from the Disney feeling/magic. The DVC is popular for a reason.

As a family with DVC, I argue to the budget conscious this is not a viable option either. Between the upfront buy-in cost and maintenance fees this is not for the value customer.

Don't get me wrong - DVC is great and the accommodations are wonderful. Having a fridge, microwave, toaster, etc. is great.

I agree hotel shuttles are never the way to go. But I also know I've never waited 90 minutes to catch a monorail back to the TTC.

I would argue that no one has waited 90 minutes unless both Monorail lines were down as well as the Ferryboats. On New Years Eve, we were done with the bulk of the crowds within a hour. I was amazed at how quick we finished.

We used to stay at the Value Resorts, and occasionally at Moderates, but after looking into DVC, we were sold. Also knowing we were going to have a family of 5 at the time (and to-be-6 in about 5 weeks... but that's it!) we knew something had to change. Either we were going to have to vacation elsewhere (not gonna do it....) or we'd have to reduce our trips to every 2-3 years because we would have to have 2 rooms anywhere. So, for us, DVC made sense in many ways. FWIW, I can't wait to be able to stay at the Kingdom Tower - Monorail access to two parks without having to fold up a stroller, or simply walk to our favorite park and not have to endure the crushing crowds after fireworks, since we could just go back to our room to watch (and throw in the 'Wishes!' CD and enjoy it all).

That being said...

Like I stated earlier in the thread - I do hope Disney builds more family suites. It is a very underserved market at WDW, and I think it may draw more people onsite (which is always their goal), especially if it's attractively priced. But therein lies a big problem - Disney has 55,000 workers to pay (among their other minor expenses ;) ), whereas the rent-a-condo places don't. Thus, the off-site places will probably always have a price advantange over Disney. They're going to need to study why people stay off-site and figure out a way to offer something that will get people to stay onsite.
