Pop Century or Port Orleans French Quarter

I am having a hard time choosing a resort and thought I would de-lurk and get some help.

I have been to WDW many times but have only stayed at the resort twice so my resort knowledge is lacking. The Disney Inn and the Swolfin.

So, we (DH, me and DS) are looking for a hotel for the weekend of October 4th and I am having a hard time deciding between Port Orleans French Quarter and Pop Century (preferred room). After reading some reviews, I'm no closer to making a decision.

For us, the room is a place to go between park closings and park openings. We want something quiet and convenient. Can I get this from either resort?

Pop has it's own buses, the preferred rooms and is less expensive. POFQ smaller, attracts a quieter crowd and has a higher rated pool.

Help!?!

Between the two, I feel POFQ is quieter. Since it's the smallest of the value and moderate resorts, even the rooms furthest away from the main building and pool aren't really that far of a walk. (I was in building 1 last fall for a few days, and I think it was a three minute walk at most to the pool or food court).

I find the resort convenient as well, in terms of overall placement within Walt Disney World. Very close to Epcot, not that far from Magic Kingdom or Hollywood Studios, and a nice boat ride away from Downtown Disney.

If money isn't the deciding issue, my vote would be for POFQ.

I would not describe Pop as quiet. I'd go with POFQ, it is a lovely resort, compact and convenient.

I just found the other PC vs. POFQ thread. Sorry about the re-ask.

If this were a longer trip, my choice would immediately be for the POFQ.

pOFQ.. Better pool. Quieter.

However, if it is a big price difference I would choose pop just because you said you won't be there much

If you really spend little or no time at your resort, I would do POP to save some money.

Port Orleans is my all time favorite resort but I would choose POP over it if I were not going to stick around the resort and maybe wanted to splurge on other experiences. If you save some money you can do that.
But like the others said POP is not quiet. If you are only going to be there to sleep though I don't think it will be a problem.

If would look into Riverside over French Quarter - but now I'm just making it more difficult!

One Little Spark...
I know! I feel that way all the time. Probably luckily for me I can't afford most of them so it narrows it down quite a bit. Lol!

I know that feeling. I can pretty much price out the Deluxes as an option, though I am doing one day in Contemporary Atrium Level Park View because the kid loves that hotel, I thought it would be a nice kick off before the cruise.

I thought about adding another night so we could really get a good whole day in at MK before leaving for the Cruise, but it's just not worth nearly another grand! Unbelievable what those room rates are...

And, honestly, outside of MAYBE Polynesian or AKL Savannah View, I don't see the incentive to step up beyond a moderate resort.

I agree with you. I actually love some of the mods theme and grounds more then several deluxe. The transportation options are better at deluxe, but so far I haven't taken any children so I don't mind bussing it.

In March we were in Fort Myers visiting some family. I had a 10 month old at the time and my husband who really doesn't like Disney but just compromises cause he drags me to a million Tigers games a year said while we were in FL we should go to Disney for a day or two and stay overnight. Leave the baby with his parents. I was thrilled!
I found a good discount on Boardwalk. It has always been my dream to stay there. We were able to go there one night with two days park passes. I would never be able to pull off a week there, but I accomplished my dream and stayed in a deluxe. Even if it was for only one night!

If you don't mind the price difference, then POFQ hands down. We've stayed at Pop, and honestly liked it for what it is. But, quiet it is not. Also, if you plan on using the bus system, I would steer clear of Pop. That was the one beef we had staying there (thankfully we had our own car and were able to avoid the buses on most days).

Hey! Who is serving drinks on my thread and didn't invite me?

Does anyone have an opinion on the Pop preferred rooms?

Only the garden view is available for POFQ. Opinions?

Yes
We've stayed at a preferred room at Pop and it really didn't impress me any. We were closer to the pool and ultimately the main building/buses, but that was the only perk. The lines were always long at Pop for a bus so if their transportation is going to be used by your family in any way, it is certainly something to strongly consider. While this will be our first time staying at POFQ, we have stayed at POR and the lines for the buses were a lot more manageable, and that was around Christmas time, if that tells you anything.

My advice would be, if you can afford POFQ, stay there, and when you're at WDW visit POP to see if next time it would meet your needs. I think I'm going to do that myself. We're staying at POFQ, but I definitely want to check out one of the Value resorts to see what they're like (POP or AoA).
