I was just checking out the recently updated website and where you choose your resort it lists "Pop Century-Classic" which is similar to how they have the All Stars (All Stars-Movies, All Stars-Music, All Stars-Sports). This could be a sign that the construction on the other half of the Pop Century resort could be starting back up in the near future. Just thought I would run this by everyone.

Interesting. Any word on whether the Classics will feature the value Suites? I know that had floated around for a bit (and it seems like a GREAT idea).

Pop Century Classic is the part that is now open. If the other side is ever completed (which it will be at some point) would be called Pop century: The Legendary Years or something like that.

When you check in/out of Pop Century the bill states Pop Century Classic Years. I don't think that it makes a difference what it says on the website. For some reason I don't see them finishing the second phase any time soon. Why did they not finish the 2nd half anyway? If you walk on the bridge that connect the two sides it is so sad to see the ghost town of a resort.

I'm not an "Eisner-Basher," so please don't get me wrong--but Eisner is part of the reason that these hotels were never finished. You see, in his rush to make WDW a full resort, he approved too many hotels. Even during Christmas and New Year's, the Disney hotels always have available occupancy. There are simply too many rooms priced higher than the average Guest is willing to spend. Thus, situations arise where the hotels in Downtown Disney and on I-4 are booked solid, yet Disney still has rooms available.

The Pop Century Legendary Years haven't been finished because when tourism dropped after 9/11, Disney realized it had built more hotel rooms than Guests would actually fill.

It almost seems like they should raze whatever has been built. By the time they get back to rebuilding, the harsh elements may have tarnished what's been built to the point where they can't be used any longer.

Correct. The part that hasn't been finished yet '00 to '40 was called the Legendary Years.

In my personal opinion, I think they should make it all suites just like some of the rooms at the All-Stars. I love the idea of the suites at the All-Stars but I just can't fathom staying there again since it's soooo far way from all the other parks other than BB and AK.

I've stayed at Pop Century the last three trips and since it's so much closer to EP and MGM I can't imagine going back to stay at the All-Stars just for the suite option.

And it's so un-Disneylike to leave some building rotting and open in full view of the guests.:lookaroun

I agree. They should either tear down what they have built or at least finish the 40s as suites and open that up, so we don't have to look at half finished buildings for years. They can build a decade at a time every 2 years or so.

It was rather sad to see those half finished buildings across the lake, but I don't see the Legendary Years being finished anytime soon...

It would be nice, though...

My guess is that if the Value Suites are popular, then the unfinished portion of Pop Century will be finished as Value Suites.

BTW, having no rooms available on 2 days in October doesn't mean anything. It's 2 days out of 365.

I have to admit that when I stayed at Pop Century in January I didn't notice the unfinished buildings. (Maybe I was too tired after the Half Marathon!) Does anyone have any photos of what it looks like?
Thanks!
