Pop Century buses

Hey everyone! The wife and I are looking into a possible trip to WDW September 1-6, 2011. :sohappy: We will be taking our 4 year old son with us. My wife and I stayed at the POFQ in March and loved it. We were looking into POP to save a little green and take advantage of the free dining plan during our trip. My question is concerning the buses at POP. How crowded are they and are there several stops at the resort? We were spoiled by being the first on and off at POFQ. Thank you in advance.

For that date range it could go either way, more than likely it will be crowded on buses wherever. Labor Day is the 5th so families are having their last summer fun time during that week. Being one of the more pocket friendly resorts I foresee more people at that resort than others.

I stayed at Pop in Dec of 2010.

There was only one stop, so you don't have to worry about that. No bus sharing with other resorts.

The bus took 15 minutes to EPCOT and about 18 minutes to MK. I didn't take the bus to the other parks.

The crowd level on the bus depends on what time you go. I went early in the morning (45 minutes before opening) and very late at night (more than 60 minutes after park closing). The buses were not crowded. If you go at peak times, I am sure they will be very crowded. I was impressed with how fast the buses came though. If there was a long line, they seemed to send a lot of buses.

We love staying at Pop. There is only one stop. If you go early in the mornings...you will have no problem w/a seat on the bus. On the way home, you will stand if you come out w/the crowd from Wishes, Illuminations, Fantasmic! Disney is aware that Pop is extremely "pop"ular() and send numerous buses at a time. My boyfriend and I don't mind standing (2 young adults in our 20's) but they send buses frequently so that if you needed to sit your next bus would come soon.

I've stayed at Pop more than just about any of the other resorts - 4, maybe even 5 times. They only make a singular stop (no sharing like the All-Stars) and haven't seen them get too crowded, but of course that just depends on the time of year more than the resort itself.

I love POP Century! When me and my mom go that's where we stay and will be staying there at the end of September.

Like someone said above me MK is a 15-20 minute bus ride, EPCOT is 10-15, HS is about 10 minutes and AK is a mere 5 minutes away.

Also, if you leave the park with the masses or in the morning with the masses then the buses are crowded but they usually tend to send a lot of buses. Bus system is awesome here!

We've stayed at POP Century twice. I thought the bus service was Great!!! Pop Century had it's own bus so you didn't have to ride around the hotel stopping at 3 or 4 stops or wondering if there would even be standing room.

In 2009 we were at Pop Sep 1-9. We never had any major issues with buses. We almost always got seats, at least for the kids. We found that the bus to/from anywhere was about 10-15 mns apart, more frquest first thing in morning & at park closings. Our ONLY issue with the bus stop itself is that while waiting in the line there is NO SHADE. I would normaly get in the line with the stroller and DH would take the 2 kids and wait off to the side in the shade

Since we are on the topic of Pop, we will be there August 14-20 and we opted for a nonpreferred room. Was that a mistake? What is the difference?

Sorry if this is the wrong thread for this question!

I've stayed in every section of the resort...the difference in walk time to the bus stops might be about 3 minutes. In my opinion it is nothing that would make me pay extra money for a prefered room.

Preferred rooms are closer to the 60's pool and the main hall area. I would not pay the extra $10. I would request a room in the 70's (building 10) or the one 80's building (I forget the building number), but these two buildings are very close to the bus stop. They are probably closer than the preferred rooms.

We've never stayed in a preferred room as I don't think the extra cost is worth it. We've always stayed in the 50s and have enjoyed the location and its proximity to everything.

Thank you all so much!!! Can I request a certain building at check-in time?

Check in won't do you any good, as rooms are processed before then. You can request anything you want on your reservation, however. So call and add your request.

However, just because you make said request doesn't always mean you'll get it.

Again, thank you! I will call soon and make the request. What should it be? 80s building? 70s? 50s?

You guys are awesome. I enjoy reading the threads on this forum everyday!

We loved the 50's it was super quiet and the pool was nice. It is a little further from bus stop, but that didn't bother us. It maybe took us 5mns to get from room to bus stop

We didn't like this either - at Pop you have to stand in the sun, and everywhere else we've stayed you can sit in the shade. First week of September that can make a big difference. Who wants to be drenched in sweat before you even leave your resort?

This has always been one of my complaints as well about the value resort bus pickup areas. I really wish they would put up some sort of shading over the corral area. I am sure they could come up with something without disturbing the facade of the front of the building.
