>>>Disney wanted to make more money so they could both make a profit and turn around that money to build more attractions for you to enjoy.<<<

HA! That money goes right into building more resorts. Well, not anymore, because not only are they overbuilt, but every penny that comes out of the resorts is being used to help pay off the mounting debts brought on by DCA and ABC. And even in a perfect world scenerio, the money would still go back to into building more resorts, because management considers those to be a more worthwhile investment. The parks have to pay for new attractions out of their own budget, not from another division's (except in a time of crisis like right now, when everything is a free-for-all).

>>>I would sleep in a shoebox if it were at Disney World.<<<

If more people feel that way, I'm sure Disney would arrange it.

I don't know what world you live in, but the money any part of the Parks or Resorts make do not go into a pool for the same area they came from. It is widely known that all of the money goes into a massive pool, with the Parks and Resorts tugging the rest of the company behind them. The cost of number of Resorts built in the past ten years is no where near the amount of money the Resorts have made in that time (not including operating costs).

But most of that money is reinvested in that same area. ie: Magic Kingdom's operating budget is determined by the previous year's revenue, and then it is slashed by Pressler to help pay for Eisner's mismanagements. The fact is, most of the profit from the resorts is reinvested into building more resorts.

Most of those resorts ran upwards of several hundred million to build (two off the top of my head are the Royal Pacific, which cost $200 million, and AKL, which cost $500 million). And if the resorts did make billions upon billions of profit, why wasn't it used on the parks? Most of it went into building more resorts or paying off Fox Family. They are Disney's biggest money makers, but Disney didn't say, "Hey, let's use this money to build more attractions." They said, "let's use it to build more resorts!"

You've got to remember, before AKL started cannibalizing occupacy and the **** hit the fan when the economy went south, most of their resorts were running at 80-90% occupacy. Of course, that is now dramatically less, but that was the way it was. That fueled the "if we build it, they will come phase" that led to such blunders as the Wide World of Sports and the Disney Institute (a resort).

pop century

you know i have stayed at the all star resorts 3 times. The only thing that I can complain about it the crowds. Other than that I tend to find that the resorts are just fine. I have stayed at Holiday Inns and have paid more per night and not get near the neatness, cleanliness and customer service that i get at the all stars. Now if i had a preference, i would stay at the moderate resorts, but i can get an extra night at the rates that the moderate rates charge and get another day at a park. Im gonna be staying there and be happy in doing it. I like the All Stars and I like the IMAGINEERING that is put into it!

A LOYAL DISNEY FAN 4 LIFE!
