Ok, I know Disney says you can't use another resort pool if you aren't at that one, however up until recently it seemed as if everyone was doing it.
Now I here they are asking to see hotel cards all the time, especially if you don't have one of their towels (considering you would need their resort card to get one lol)

anyways, anyone have any success using another resort's pool? i'm staying at all-star movies, which is cool, but id love to hop to the yacht and beach clubs pool or the AKL. do i have any hope?

Well you know some folks actually do find the time to relax and soak up some rays while on vacation at disney world and actually visit the other resorts. There was a rather heated thread 2 years ago on this same subject, so i'm not going to address whether it is right or wrong to pool hop - although my personal opinion is that there is nothing that horrible about it especially given that at Universal Resorts it is not an issue and you are allowed, if you are a universal resort guest.

To address the original post on this thread:

1. As for Y&B - i've never "pool hopped" there, but i have stayed there twice and I do remember having my id's checked.

2. As for AKL, I pool hopped there about 2 years ago during the summer and my ID was never looked at. We were staying at another disney resort and decided to spend the afternoon at AKL to have lunch and see the animals. My best advice when it comes to visiting another hotel pool, if you are a disney resort guest of course, is don't do it over a busy holiday weekend, sit far away from the pool ( just out of courtesy as it isn't your resort) and dont be too obvious - in another words don't show up like you literally arrived from the park carrying your bags - best to show up just like everyone else coming to the pool. I've pool hopped over at the Coronado and never had a problem either.

As for the poly - i would imagine that they may check id's given the proximity to MK, but best thing to do is walk around the pool and check it out. If you are told to leave - no harm no foul.

By the way, you pay for the average square footage of your resort room, not the pool size.

Did this just start?

We stayed at the AKL last year and never had anyone check our room key, or verify that we were a guest of the resort.

Did they just start to enforce this rule? I think this is a fair rule, w/1 exception. I think that Disney resort guest should be able go pool hop amongst the resorts that are "like kind".

For example, if you are staying at a deluxe (AKL) and you would like to go swim at the GF, that should be allowed. If you are staying at the CBR, and would like to try out CS pool, that should also be okay.

I really can't see why someone would like do this, unless they have a rental car or staying at a monorail resort that would make it easier to resort hop during the day. I think it is extremely hard and time consuming to resort hop.

This is pretty strange. I have swam at Y&B NUMEROUS times and not once did anyone ever ask to see an ID or Roomkey or anything. And it's not like I go during "non-peak" times either, we always go in either June or July.

It amazes me at what a big deal people make this out to be! It's a resort swimming pool! I really don't care what other people do. If they want to "pool hop" then fanfrickentastic, I hope they have a good time. It's pretty funny though when you think about it.... DVC members pay all this money to be a 'member' and yet they can not go to Y&B or AKL! Another thing: isn't it kinda ridiculous for those people staying at a resort like OKW and pay all that money and have pretty much the worst pool on property! I can kinda see why people pool hop then!

Ok, so lets stop the 'drama' and take a deep breathe, hold hands, and sing a "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow"

Ok, I'm fine with no pool hopping and understand where you all are coming from. However, I think it's ridiculous that the Fort Wilderness pools are so poor (and unmonitored, I might add). Now, before you all jump all over me, my fam stays in the Wilderness Homes . . . we pay as much or more than some hotels. In addition, we have no interest in changing resorts, this is by far our favorite. We don't pool hop, and honestly, it is a waste of time to try to do that. My issue with Fort Wilderness is that there are no "fun" pools and worse yet, no hot tubs. I think at the very least Disney should put in a hot tub, even if only for Wilderness home guests.

As far as the pools being unmonitered, I know most people are thinking, who would pool hop to Fort Wilderness . . . but people who aren't staying in a resort period certainly do (we've experienced this several times). Disney should be more consistent on their policies to be fair to all guests.

Finally, why is it that all resort guests can attend the campground movie and sing-along. If Fort Wilderness guests cannot use any of the amenities of the other resorts, other resort guests should not be allowed to enjoy Fort Wilderness events. The campground movie is often so crowded, there are few (crappy) or no seats. Eliminating all guests but those from the campground would better this situation.

Ok now I havent been there in 2 years  so Im shore things have changed since then. But on the 20+ times Ive been there, and each time we went to Y&B and we werent staying there...we've gotten into the pool every time w/out our IDs being checked. Now maybe its cause we go at offseason times? Dont know....but we've never had a problem. Like Isaid its been a bit and I know last time we did go we kept hearing all these rumors that they were getting stricter and checking ids and such but it never happened to us. If you really want to go there just try...just dont act all obvious about it.

Amazing . . .

. . . the number of threads that deal with cheating the system.

No wonder I waste so much time (as a resort guest) waiting in lines for transportation to/fro the parks, trying to find a parking space when I move my car, and looking for a lounge chair by the pool . . . (according to recent discussions) it's because the majority of people ahead of me in line, using the parking spaces, or lounging by the pool aren't even staying on property!!!

I know everyone thinks, oh it's just one more, or 2 more, or 4 more people, but according to the posts that I've read, it seems to be a bit out of control . . . truly not "magical" for those of us who are willing to spend our hard-earned dollars as resort guests!

Cheating the system? Geeze, you would think that these people were stealing money from someone or something!

Look, people go on vacation to have a good time! And as long as they stay out of trouble, I'm fine with pool hopping.

Basically, there is almost a sense of "Disney Darwinism" being portrayed here! People who 'pool hop' are essentially the ones who really do have a good time and don't really care about anything else. They have paid a large amount of their hard earned money for this vacation and don't really want to be restricted.

IT'S NOT THAT BIG OF A DEAL PEOPLE! DON'T WORRY THEY'RE NOT GOING TO BITE!

Just go out, HAVE FUN, and stop worring about things that you really can't control.

On a side note: Probably the funniest thing for me to witness at WDW is when people shout and argue! So much for being in the happiest place on earth.

What Universal allows is not up for discussion here. Disney does not own it and we are talking about pool hopping at Disney. Apparently Disney does not agree with your Personal Opinion or they would not have the rules in place.

If you feel you must pool hop why not simply ask if it is ok when you get there, that way you don't run the risk of being asked to leave.

You pay for the room size and the perqs available at that resort. The more expensive the resort, the larger the rooms and more perqs.

We did not buy into DVC to pool hop and it is one of the perqs of being a member. We purchased a vacation membership and that was it. The fact that we can pool hop is great for some. AKL is restricted because of the animals comfort and safety. Y&B used to be on the list until they opened BCV.
I have been there many times and the pool is always crowded, so, I can understand the limitation. Ridiculous to stay at OKW? NO!!!! People have different tastes and a pool was never on my list of have to haves when choosing a resort. And, btw, they have improved the main pool and it now has a pretty neat slide. Apparently you have not been keeping up.

It used to be available to DVC members, but, when they opened BCV they ended it primarily because they thought having BCV and DVC members using the pool would put a strain on the capacity.

I assume you understand about rules, right? Well it is against the rules to pool hop. Simple, easy to understand. If you stay at Disney it is expected that you follow the rules.

That about sums it up, doesn't it?

I really don't worry about such things; if it bothered me that much, I would just vote with my dollars and spend my vacation elsewhere. However, I found this thread as an opportunity to share my opinion. Interesting to note though, that since Disney is implementing more restrictive controls, they must not feel that it is right either . . . and I trust their opinion on what makes for the most magical experience for all guests in the "happiest place on earth!" :animwink:

I don't like the idea of pool hopping much at all.

Once I was staying at poly on july 4 and the beach and pool area was butts to butts with people who poured off of the monorails, and people were jumping in the pool with their regular clothes on. We also saw that people were taking the chairs off of patios.

Other than this, the fireworks were so beautiful and awesome!

In response to the original question at hand, yes, I have had success stopping in at other Resort's pools. There has been more of a crack down at Yacht and Beach recently, but it's still doable. But it is, of course, against Disney policy and you can be asked to leave the Resort.

So hop at your own risk. Just as tobacco is proven to be harmful, it is still widely used. Pool hopping is wrong as per policy, but it is still done.

But, for the record, I haven't done it in forever b/c we stay at Yacht Club now.

And something else. Last vacation I walked right up to the BoardWalk lifeguard CM and said I was a YC Guest, but I just want to go on the slide with my sister b/c "I love wooden coasters." She obliged and said something to the effect of don't worry and have fun. That, of course, depends on the CM. And if she said no, I would have gone back to Stormalong Bay.

Enjoy the All Star pools tho--they are bright, colorful, fun, and wet!!

Oh, I've been keepin up, I know all about that little sorry excuse for a slide they put in the OKW pool.

I know you didn't buy the DVC membership to 'pool hop' but honestly don't you think it is a little foolish to pay all that money and be restricted like that?

And AKL restricted because of the animals? COME ON, I'm sure there is a much more logical reason than that. I'm not doubting you are anything, I inderstand that it is the policy that the AKL pool is restricted for guests only, but I'm sure there were other factors involved.
