Ponchos really????

We were in the AK today and we rode the Kali River Rapids twice. The stranget site I saw all day were the MANY people wearing ponchos to ride it. Am I missing something? First, I didn't get all that wet, yes I got wet but ponchos???? Isn't the point of this ride TO get wet? These people probably wear sunscreen at night! I am baffled.

I was never one to wear a poncho until the one fateful ride made me a believer! I had rode the rapids many, many times and never needed the poncho. But then.....there was that one time that I was pretty dry until the raft turned right before sending me backward down the hill. Well, I will never forget seeing that "waterfall" come above my head and come down on me! I didn't dry all day and couldn't wait to get back to my room to change my clothes! Never again will I ride without a poncho! It took all the fun out of it and that's hard to do with me!

Oh my gosh...haha I saw this as well when we went a couple weeks ago and thought "How RIDICULOUS"....then I was the one walking around the park for the rest of the afternoon/evening in wet denim capris. That is the most UNCOMFORTABLE, almost painful feeling.

Next time, I'll just wrap it around my waist. I dont mind my hair/top getting wet, but my shorts/pants? NO WAY.

My first (and so far only) time at the Animal Kingdom, we were planning on riding Kali until we started to notice all the miserable-looking people, drenched from head to foot, slogging their way around the park, and realized where they'd come from. It was a hot day, but we were all wearing sneakers, I had a thin white tank top on, and we all had cell phones in our pockets that we didn't want to get water-logged -- a vote was quickly taken, and we were unanimous in not wanting to ride after realizing how wet we could get.

This time around, we'll be changing into our Tevas and packing ponchos so we can ride! I don't mind looking like a poncho-wearing dork, when the alternative is to spend the rest of the day avoiding air-conditioned venues so I don't freeze, and leaving soggy footprints in my squishy shoes. ;)

Word of advice - if you are in "the seat" the water will find its way into a poncho as well - if you're in the front down the one big hill (hardly a drop!!) I'd gather the poncho under your chin or you will still get pretty wet.

I've had mixed experiences, one year I had a camera that wasn't weather sealed and I was freaking out, woman next to me was drenched head to toe... I literally was bone dry!

I really hate this ride - I don't mind getting wet, but you really get soaked on this - well past the point of possibly drying off later. I have pictures of my husband wringing out his shirt after riding it. It's not that exciting of a ride anyway, but the soaking factor just totally turns me off.

Ponchos on this ride are almost the same as not wearing a poncho. You still get soaked to the bone if you are in the wrong seat, and no matter what seat you are in, your bottom will be wet.
We rode Friday morning during early hours. We were the only ones on our raft. There was a 0 wait time.
We wore rain suits, pants and jacket, and stayed totally dry. It was fun getting splashed because we couldn't get wet. The poor girls that got off the ride after us, were as wet as if they had jumped in a pool. They were also the only ones in their raft.
