Polynesian resort

We are scheduled to stay on the concierge level of the Poly the first week of February. We are excited about the convenience of the monorail. The only other place we have stayed on property is AKL concierge. I have heard many comments about the Poly and wondered if anyone out there liked it. I have been considering staying 2 nights at another hotel like Boardwalk or Beach Club if I can still get in. I just don't know much about the Disney resorts but this will be our last trip for a long time so I would appreciate any input you guys have. I want this to be a special trip. (Hopefully I will be though physical therapy and get to go, I crushed my ankle 3 weeks ago) :(

Thanks for any comments you have.

It seems to me that Polynesian always gets the most votes on threads where people vote for their favorite. It's definitely my favorite. You should plan on spending time enjoying the hotel.

Personally, I would stay at Poly the whole time. There's nothing like staying at a Monorail hotel.

If you decide to switch to Beach Club, Boardwalk, then plan on doing Epcot and MGM while you're there. It is a very short walk from those resorts to Epcot.

Sorry to hear about your ankle.
Definitely go with the Polynesian. The monorail in the morning is a great way to get to MK. Depending on crowds, getting back from MK can be problematic but since you are going in February crowds shouldn't be too bad. My opinion is that changing hotels is more trouble than it's worth. The pool at the Poly is great too since you can walk right in at the shallow end.

Meega, nala kwishta!
We did the Poly a few years ago for our honeymoon. We loved it. It is the most romantic of all the resorts (IMHO), and very relaxing.

The only resort I'd recoomend AFTER AKL. :D If we couldn't go to AKL, this would always be our second choice.

On our honeymoon we got these coupons as part of our package that gave you a two person free breakfast or lunch. And we got a coupon for each day of our stay. So we used them at the Kona Café, and I ate some of the best omlets I've ever tasted for a week!

Have fun!

I stayed at the poly concierge level and it was great!! I had a view of the magic kingdom so at night time I saw the fireworks right from my room. But if you really want to have a good time, stay at the contemporary resort. It is amazing. You can clearly see the fireworks from your room if you are facing the magic kingdom, and you can also hear the music that is actually being played in the magic kingdom right on the balcony of your room. Also the atmosphere is more "disney-like" I stayed at pretty much all the deluxe resorts and the contemporary is by far the best.

Thank you so much for your help. I feel better about the Poly now. It is our 2nd place choice...the Contemporary is full. All of you are so nice.

I saw where they are offering a good rate at the Grand Floridian lodge concierge. Would the Poly still be better than the Grand Floridian? Sorry to bother you again, you are very nice to respond so fast and be so kind.

The Polynesian is my favorite monorail hotel. I love the beach and the fact that you can watch the MK fireworks from it! The new volcano pool is great! The Contemporary is a close second with the big rooms and the Mickey Pool.
My most favorite hotel is the Wilderness Lodge - you actually feel like you are coming home when you get back to the hotel. I love the theming. The resort has no palm trees just the feeling of the old northwest. The jacuzzi at night is the most romantic in all of Disney! A little off the topic but you will love the POLY!

The Poly is fantastic!!! There is one thing I want to point out. While it is a monorail hotel, certain buildings are more convenient than others. I'm not sure which ones are concierge level, but IMO the best building is Rapa Nui. It is closest to the TTC. The reason I like this so well is the high availability of transportation anywhere in WDW, plus you have direct access to both the MK monorail and the Epcot monorail.

If you do want to stay at either the Boardwalk or Beach Club for a couple nights, I'd recommend the Beach Club. It's closer to Epcot than Boardwalk, you still have boat access to MGM as with Boardwalk, and you have the best pool on property in Stormalong Bay. Finally, you have easy access to Boardwalk entertainment, but the Beach Club feels more private to me than Boardwalk.

Finally, just my two cents on Grand Floridian and Contemporary. I think you will be more please with the Poly than the other two. I know some will disagree with me, but the Contemporary feels like just another nice hotel while most other Disney hotels have much more theming. As for the Grand Floridian, it is wonderful, but I always feel underdressed there unless I'm in a suit for dinner. It's vacation, and while it is probably the best hotel in WDW (maybe all of Florida), the Grand Floridian just isn't as relaxing. Again, just my opinion, but I think you got the best hotel on property.

You know, we had the same feeling when we visited the GF for dinner in October. It was the first time at the GF for me, and while it was certainly a beatiful resort, and really is a 'Grand' place, both my wife and I decided it was not a place we would be comfertable staying at. We like the more laid back atmosphere of AKL or Poly. Even though we dressed up for dinner (for Nacossess's), we still felt underdressed for that place. To each there own I guess.

I think the Polynesian is the best!!! My family and I have been there numerous times. We like to try different hotels but I always gravitate back to the Polynesian.

It's so peaceful there and the flowers are gorgeous. The access to the monorail is fast and easy.

And don't forget to try the Tonga toast. It's yummy :)

There is simply no better choice than the Polynesian, hands down!

The Grand Floridian is just too stuffy and formal! We walked in in our shorts and felt out of place with all the businessmen and women in their suits. The GF has a lot of convention rooms so you see people dressed up more than down. My friend had a week stay booked at the GF and then moved to the Poly after two days because she just didn't feel like she was at Disney due to the surroundings. It does feel uncomfortable to me there. It's beautiful, but just not to my liking very much.

I think the Contemporary is fine if you are in the Grand Canyon Concourse--if you have to stay in an outbuilding it's not worth the price.

If you get to the Poly and then have ressies to leave after a few days I'm sure you will be disappointed that you have to leave. The Poly feels so much like home <sigh>....it's only been 2 1/2 weeks since I've left and I'm missing it so much.

You all have made me feel so excited. I really hope I get to take the vacation. I am leaving my reservation just as it is 4 nights at the Poly. Thank you so much. I have only stayed on Disney property one time and this will be my last time for a while so I wanted to get it right.

Thanks so much!

We will. We took our nieces and nephews there for a character breakfast but we have never ate there any other time. We found the character breakfast awesome. Thanks again.

ok..so i'm the voice of dissent. We just stayed at the Poly for our honeymoon and would have much rather stayed elsewhere. Perhaps it would have been better if we'd stayed concierge, but i don't think so. I much prefer the Contemporary and probably won't be staying at the Poly again. You can check out more about my feelings in the trip report i just posted (honeymoon trip report 11/30-12/3)

Thanks Cosmo for your honest opinion. I had a similar circumstance at the AKL in that everyone raves about it and I think it was not all of that for me. The cast members and managers had alot to do with it. I think it has alot to do with which room you are assigned as well as the CM that you interact with. I will take your remarks into consideration.
