Polynesian Lobby Smell

Anyone have an update on the status? Supposedly, they were installing new air fresheners in all of the lobbies. Is the old smell still there or is it gone?

i've never stayed at the polynesian but have eaten there a few times, my wife describes it as the time the brady bunch went to hawaii...and i'd have to agree. It feels like your in a mall in the 1970's...good or bad that's just what it feels like to me. Out of all the deluxe resorts i am least impressed with the overall look of that resort. It could use a makeover and not something to do with Lilo & Stitch but more something more current...or even have themes of disney stars on vacation sort of like the toy story short hawaiian vacation.

For the price of some peoples mortgage a night there shouldn't even be this discussion on the forum board...i'd say the fair price for that resort would be 250 a night and that's pushing it considering how small the rooms look...just my opinion, but i am a contemporary person myself and a lot of people hate that place.

As far as the smell goes, it just smelled like a sweet forest smell to me, i wouldn't say that it was something that stood out to me, but i don't have all that good a nose, because i can barely smell the ginger bread house in the grand floridian during christmas.

The rooms are actually bigger than the Contemporary's. They're 415 sq ft in the 8 original longhouses and 476 sq ft in the 3 newer ones.

I loved the old smell of the Poly. I want to smell the old Florida smell of my youth and not some artificial scent. Walking into the lobby of the Poly created the perfect storm of amazing! The sights, sounds, and smell all came together to make it just right. If you take any of those elements out then you still have something nice, but not amazing!

I have never seen a mall in the 70’s that looked like the Polynesian and Not sure how the episode of the Brady’s going to Hawaii has become a look other than it being Hawaii in the 60’s but don’t see the connection there either. If you want to take a screen shot of anything in that episode that looks like something at the Polynesian I would be curious to see it.

Like Captainkidd said the rooms are the largest on property so not sure how they are small.

The GCH did have a distinct smell that many people liked. However, let's put this in perspective...it was a smell. If someone's desire to stay at the resort was so dependent on that scent, then they probably shouldn't have been staying there to begin with.

I did love the smell, but in no way was this a determining factor to me for staying or not. I love the convenience of the resort, and the great restaurants, the smell of the lobby is just an added bonus.
