Polynesian Lobby Smell

Anyone have an update on the status? Supposedly, they were installing new air fresheners in all of the lobbies. Is the old smell still there or is it gone?

LOL. This thread is great. I too, was in love with that smell. Always looked forward to it after I got off the monorail and walked in. I think if the smell isnt there now, it will be back. Its a combination of all the smells (food and flowers etc). Eventually the smell will make its way back

Poly did have a very distinct smell, and while cooking one day, i recreated that smell by accident. Boiling red skin potatoes and smelling the steam from the pot is dead spot on to Poly lobby. Sounds weird I know, but try it.:ROFLOL:

There was always a distinct smell in Journey into Imagination as well. little fact... an old Yankee Candle had the exact smell. It was called Roses of Cliffwalk. My stepmom owns a candlestore and visted Yankee Candle for business and they said that. It is true. It smelled exactly like i was on the ride

That saddens me a great deal. That's one of the things Disney seems to have lost touch with. I'm BIG on lobby's, as I spend a lot of time at night relaxing, taking in the ambience. I may have to switch over to GF now. Sounds utterly ridiculous, but that smell was a big part of the GCH. Especially just walking in there to check in. It hit you like a ton of bricks, and it was wonderful.

It's not ridiculous at all. I think it's interesting how our senses of smell have such a strong connection to our memories and feelings of nostalgia.

I always love it when I smell the exhaust of a diesel-guzzling truck or bus because it takes me back to WDW where we take the trams and buses to get to the parks. While other people are plugging their noses I'm drifting off to La-La Land. :dazzle:

I always thought the best smell in all of WDW was the Poly GCH... but it didn't seem quite the same when we were there at the end of November.
Second best smell is AKL Jambo House lobby.

I'll wager that that is due to 2 of the best restaurants on property being located 20' below it.:slurp:

I gotta check that out if it smells like original Journey. There was a distinct smell especially during the Dreamfinder part in the beginning. I always thought it was an ozone type of smell created from when the Dreamfinder vehicle does that lighted up thing when the puff of smoke came into it from the left side.

Oh and if that Poly smell is really gone...:mad::mad:

The Beach Club is green clover and aloe. I don't think the Polynesian's lobby smell is any different... at least I hope not! My favorite smells are the GF lobby and guest room buildings:)

Polynesian new lobby smell - HATE IT!!!!

More to the point, I think I'm allergic to it. I stepped into the lobby last week and the smell, which isn't nearly as good as the original scent, was immediately making me sneeze and my eyes water. I had ADR's at Ohana, so I went outside until 15 minutes before dinner time. When I came back in, it hit me again. Sneezing, watery eyes, sore throat. So sad.:(

That stinks because that is one of the few things that I remember from my stays as a child back in the 70"s. I also remember a distinct smell in the hallways of the longhouses I wonder if that is gone too. So what does it smell like now?
