Polynesian info please

We have decided that we are going to stay at the Poly for our vacation this year. We have a 2 and 4 year old so we need a hotel close to MK that we can come back to for a quick nap or some down time. I do have a few questions, if anyone could help out. Where are the best locations, I guess centrally located, within the Poly to try to request? Is it worth spending the extra money on a lagoon view? Normally I don't care about water views but it seems like it might be worth it at the Poly?

ohanas is really great

I will have to disagree with this. We ate there in Jan., while the atmosphere was fun, the food was terrible. Ok, well not terrible, but definately not worth what you pay. I was not on DD plan, but the rest of our party was, and I think they agree that we won't be going there again.
I would like to try the Kona Cafe and maybe actually stay there one time!

Awesome photos but that one on the right is not a shot from Tahiti.

I love the lagoon view from the Polynesian but if you feel your money is better spent somewhere else you can still get a great view (even some of the lagoon) from a garden view room. Tokelau is my suggestion for its location and that it has rooms towards the beach end that you could see the castle and fireworsk for a garden view price.

Tikiman- I had this in mind when we made our request. I had read your site, and I am keeping my fingers crossed that we get one of the lagoon-end rooms in Tokelau! Great site!!!

I completely agree. We were not wowed by Ohana at all. Don't let that keep you from trying Kona Cafe though. We have gone there for both breakfest and lunch and now it is one of our must dos every trip. They have some of the best food on proprotry IMHO. A great gem. Also the fact that its one of the "lesser known" places means that your meal is more relaxed.

Seriously though, over all the Poly is my favoirate resort. You really can't go wrong with the view. If you are planing on spending some time in your room than the lagoon view is worth every penny. There is nothing more fun than coming back from a day at the parks and watching the fireworks from your patio/balcony.

Our favorite resort is the Poly. I would opt to stay in a longhouse closer to the great ceremonial house though since your kids are so young. It was so exciting to walk through the house and catch the monorail in the mornings. There's great music playing and a CM is usually handing out leis. I'm not that great with directions and got lost a few times when we stayed at the farthest longhouse next to the TTS. Always look for ducks in the pool. And you will really enjoy the infinity pool. Have a great trip!

Heading for the great escape.

No I attached the wrong one. Heres the one with the castle through the trees

As for the price of that view I paid just over $200 a night, I even posted on here cause I thought Disney got it wrong with their on line pricing.

We were at the Poly Easter weekend with our 4 year old and (then) 20 month old. We resereved a garden view, but ended up with a water view. The best thing about this was we could see the MK fireworks every night. We would put DD to sleep and then the 4 year old would go sit on the beach with my DH and watch the fireworks, if he was still awake! There were also ducks at our patio every morning, which my DD loved!!!

My kids go to bed early though (7 pm Central time - 8 eastern), if you plan to be in the park every night at closing, then you won't need a water view.

We only ate at Ohana for breakfast, but we thought the food was awesome! Maybe we hit it on a good morning - the Mickey waffles, eggs, etc served family style were perfect for us. Kona was nice - tonga toast, and so on. Everything you read about Captain Kooks is true - it's small, the menu is limited and sometimes confusing, but the Dole Whips at the end of the meal make you forget anything you didn't like about it!

Overall, the best thing about the Poly (or most of Disney for that matter) is that it is so family friendly!
